I have been going to First Eye Care in Pantego for years and I absolutely love it! The thorough exam and attention of the doctor has always been top-notch and my prescription is always been perfect even as I've aged and it's changed.
If you read through some of the negative reviews, as I just did, you can see some of it has nothing to do with the office or care.
I have gone to this clinic a few times over the years. Never a complaint besides the choices in glasses being so limited. However, I have taken/referred family here over the years. Fast forward to today, I called to get my prescription for my glasses. An old prescription, of course (late 2023), I informed the woman that I knew that the prescription was old and was fine with it because if I could avoid changing my prescription I would. She didn't like that I was assertive in asking her why she needed me to say the last time I was there if she can see the last time I was there. The woman, Rebecca, wrote EXPIRED all over the request, so big and bold that I couldn't even read majority of the information on the paper. Then when I called back to ask her why she did that and told her she could've written "expired" anywhere on the paper it would've sufficed, and that she didn't need to do it that way. She stated it was their policy. If their policy is to be THAT disrespectful, it's disgusting. So when I called back annd asked for her name, she had the audacity to give a condescending/sarcastic chuckle before answering her name. If I knew they were giving out free exams and free name brand glasses, I still wouldn't send anybody to this clinic based on Rebecca alone. She's rude. I used to love this place.
I had previously written a one star review due to the quality of my glasses, but I decided to go back up here and have them looked at.
A really nice gentleman named Hugo ( sorry if I misspelt the name) helped me with my issue and gave some very interesting information about glasses and the texas heat.
Turns out if you work in the heat that maybe glare free glasses are not the best option sometimes the heat can cause them to get this milky texture on the lens that's aweful, so maybe get some with out the glare free for outdoor work or attic work (if that's your profession) and a second pair that you can wear outside of your daily job routine.
I really appreciated how he explained why this was happening instead of just replacing them without an explanation, it gives me confidence that he really knows what he's doing.
I also learned that glare free lenses actually used to be top secret technology used in tank lenses during World War Two,Pretty neat.
But anyways turns out I had a 2 year warranty on my glasses and Mr Hugo did a fantastic job in assisting me to replace them.
The staff has always been excellent at this location and I've been coming here since I was in high school.
I have to say I wish I had listened to the bad reviews. I should have never given this place a chance. Had my first visit in September I didn't get to order my contacts until December. The doctor had me try 4 pairs of contacts, none of which were the right prescription. So the ones I ended up with are much weaker than what I was prescribed 3 years ago. I called to let them know before I ordered my contacts. I told them I have my prescription from last year and 2 years before that. The last trial pair the doc gave me not only were they weaker but they were also assigned to the opposite eyes. I had to switch them to be able to read road signs. I was told by the receptionist she would talk to the doctor and call me back and the call never came. I waited for a few weeks and gave up. I had already been in that trial pair for almost 2 moths. I needed to change them out. Don't go here. They may seem nice when you go in but the doctor is not good at all. The assistant I saw before the doctor is great. She is the only reason I didn't give this place one star.
Dr. Edwards was very friendly and personable. The assistant and Dr. Edwards gave a thorough eye exam and there was no pressure to buy new glasses since my new prescription was very similar to my old one. The only complaint I have is that they were super slow getting me in for the appt. My appt was at 230p. I got there early and had a wait a very long time. I'd picked out my new frames by the time I was called back for the exam. I finally was able to leave after 4pm. I had to cancel my next appt because they ran so long. Other than that, it was a good experience.
Don't waste your time with the online forms. You will just waste your valuable time filling out your personal information for them not get back to you. If you decide to take the initiative to contact them, since they will just give you excuses as of why they weren't professional enough to contact you, you'll just be disappointed to find out that they don't have available appointments for you.
Dr. Edwards is very compassionate, but some of her staff don't seem invested in their job and lack some organization skills. During my visit, the technician was pressuring the secretary to "just leave [her] desk, no one will know". I had confirmed that they would accept my insurance but after my appointment, I found out they didn't take my insurance. The ladies had no sympathy and did not take responsibility for the miscommunication. Not the best first impression.
Doctors are wonderful but getting lenses took weeks. Couldn't get any updates or information about the status either because when I'd call, I was just put on hold for 10-15 minutes with no update. I tried multiple times throughout the weeks and at this point have no glasses.
