Harlingen Eye Clinic: Dr James D Rowe

I've been a patient of Dr. Rowe's for many years, and all four of my children--now adults--also grew up under his care. He has always been professional, thorough, and genuinely caring. I've trusted him with my family's eye health for decades, and I wouldn't go anywhere else. The staff is always kind and welcoming, and appointments are well organized. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an eye doctor you can count on for the long term.

The staff are really nice and friendly. They were also upfront about the costs, which I appreciated--most places don't communicate as clearly. Dr. Rowe took the time to listen to my concerns and actually explained his thought process while looking for solutions. That kind of communication is pretty rare these days, and it made me feel like I was in good hands. I like going to this office because I know I'm getting the care I need, and I'm kept informed every step of the way. If you're looking for an eye doctor who genuinely cares, I'd definitely recommend Dr. Rowe!

Highly recommend this place ,Dr Rowe and his knowledgeable staff are the best ! They took care of my eye injury really good and fast ! Where other offices i called could not see me till 2 weeks later ,dr rowe took care of me next day ! Thank you and your staff you guys have gained a new customer.. keep up the excellent work.

I do not recommend this eye clinic to no one. Dr. Rowe, do better and hire staff who have actually gone to school to study billing and who have proper phone etiquette. Nancy in your billing department informed both me and evolve that she would not bill my primary insurance because they were afraid of getting denied. Not only do I have a primary insurance but I also have a secondary insurance who is responsible for coverage and payment when my primary doesn't cover. I was informed that Doctor Rowes office did not have my insurance properly updated either which is insane because that's the first thing they ask for along with an ID. Overall in a nutshell I bluntly asked my insurance if the problem was if the billing department did not know how to bill correctly, she couldn't help but laugh and said yes! I'm very happy to say that my insurance and I decided to change me to another optometrist in hopes that this doctor hopefully has a staff that knows how to bill instead of lying and giving false information to the patient and asking them to pay when there is no need to. Dr. Rowe, I hope you either train, fire, or hire billing representatives who do have the knowledge and education in what they are supposed to be doing to bring you in the money. Oh and you may want to also fire your receptionist in front. My insurance rep told me she had her on hold and hung up on her after my insurance representative explained how to correct the error. Seriously, if I didn't have to select a star ...i wouldn't have. Too bad Google doesn't have a your employee's suck emoji!

Very pissed off customer I feel robbed for glasses I can't use

I had 1 visit with Dr. Rowe and it wasn't nearly as good as I expected. Dr. Rowe is knowledgeable in what he does, but that's all that was good about my eye exam. I made an appointment for when they opened at 8:30 and there was 4-5 other people there at the same time. The exam started 30-45 minutes after my appointment time and took the usual amount of time of 1 hour. Because I was getting contacts I had to pay the rate set by Dr. Rowe which nobody in the office can tell you what that will cost EXCEPT Dr. Rowe. I think it varied between $100-150 extra. I got a trial pair of contacts, and then returned later to check their fit. They were not too happy that I was going to buy my contacts online through a wholesaler and for a much cheaper rate than they were offering to sell them to me. Rudy, the office guy insisted that they could be a black market supplier, or something like that, which was total BS. When I went a year later for my follow up it was the same as before. 8:30 appointment and I was 1 of 6 people in the door at 8:30. Nobody was called even by 8:45 and they insisted that I would again have a contact fitting fee to get contacts again. I have had the same contacts RX for 15 years and I wasn't going to put up with their garbage again so I walked out.

Big shout out to Dr. Rowe and his office staff for taking me in immediately after I got a severe allergic reaction to an eye antibiotic prescribed by an ophthalmologist for dry eyes. I have autoimmune disorder and have very sensitive skin and eyes that gets aggravated by many things. He quickly did his diagnosis and went out of his way to look for an appropriate non preservative eye drop option for dry eyes and came up with a plan to calm my allergic reaction. I'll be coming here for my future eye exams for sure!

I was in desperate need of help on the day that Dr. Rowe returned my call. I had an insect enter my eye at 50 miles an hour and I was in pain, my eye had become infected and I was sure there was still bug parts in my eye. It was a Saturday. Dr. Rowe returned my left message and came to the office on his day off to see me. He care was great. His compassion was unbelievable and the results of his care were excellent. I am very lucky to have had his service for my problem and I will forever be grateful for his care.
