I saw Dr. Blankenship to update my contact prescription. He was super friendly & helpful. I called them a week later on August 26th to order contacts thru them. I gave the lady my credit card number over the phone & she placed the order. She said it would be about 2 weeks. It has been almost 2 months and they still have not come in. I called 2 weeks ago & left a message for the lady in charge of contacts to call me. She never called. I called last week & left message for her to call. She never called. I also called & left message for the doctor to call me back. He never called. I called today & left message for them to call me back around 11:00. At 1:45, I called them back & the lady who answered said she gave her the message & that she was on the phone with the company. I said they could either give me the contacts I ordered or refund my money ($312.00). She said they did not do refunds. I will be reporting them to the BBB & contacting the Texas Optometry Board I am going there today.
0 stars. Eye exam plus three pairs of glasses $1000. Received glasses and told them they were not right immediately. Said I had to wait two weeks. Office closed and never got corrected. Now it is reopen and they "don't do glasses anymore". Want to charge me $150 to re-examine me since its been over 90 days (they CLOSED and reopened). PLUS, I will have to take my RX somewhere else to get the glasses. Refused a refund for the useless glasses. Also, never made the recommended specialist appointment. These people obviously do not care about their patient's eye health or customer service. Only about the bottom dollar. Hope their new larger facility is amazing. Won't matter if they have no customers.
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF DR BLANKENSHIP IS STILL IN SAN ANGELO? Daughter goes to ASU, went and had her eyes checked at Caplan, ordered SIX MONTHS of contact lenses and never received them. When I went by there, the sign said they were permanently closed and the location was cleared out! Help!!
**update : after I made a post on Facebook, Dr Blankenship contacted me directly. My daughter's contacts were initially returned to their office as undeliverable. They re-shipped them and we have since received the contacts. They were very responsive and it was handled quickly. Dr Blankenship is in the process of building a new building and for the meanwhile is back at Walmart.
Dr. Blankenship and his staff were very kind, professional and efficient with my visit today. Would 10/10 recommend!
Absolutely love this office! Was able to see him within minutes and was very happy with Patricia! Very nice and friendly! Will be back for my next yearly exam.
BEWARE! I paid for a contact exam for Dr Blankenship to prescribe me the wrong prescription of contacts. It took them over a month and a half to order my contacts and have them ship to me. They will lie to you and say they are backorder, but they're not. They will also lie to you and say they do not cover or have the brand of contacts you wear and will prescribe you a different brand.
It's impossible for you to reach them over the phone. I have to go out of my way and go to the office To speak to someone.
I finally got my contacts in over a month and a half later. And of course, it's the wrong prescription. I went back to Caplan Eye Center to return the contacts and of course the only receptionist that works there is not in yet. She comes in at 11am, takes lunch from 12:30pm-2:30pm that makes a lot of sense why no one answers the phone or helps. It's also very frustrating, When nothing can get done without this Receptionist. It's also pretty sad that the ladies who work in eye care dept, has to pick up the receptionist job, And does not have access to anything. "She is the only one here" "she has a lot of work" pathetic excuses. She is with the doctor every day outside of work. I've seen them at car washes, and other places. He should be hiring more people to help.
They do not care for their patients. Dr. Blankenship also tried to make me pay over $1000 for a treatment for dry eyes. I'm still waiting on my prescription that he put in. But I was smart enough, not to give this man any of more of my money. I can only imagine how that one would've turned out.
They do not want to fix this mistake on their end or refund me. It's pretty evil to take money from people who work hard for and does not want to fix the issue. Stealing money is not right!
Please go somewhere else. They are a HEADACHE! I honestly won't have to take the lost of my $135 plus $160 because of these unfair people! I would never see them again!
UPDATE:
They are pretty much saying I've never reached out and they will not make things better or see me again till I removed this review. Very much the gaslight response I expected from them.
I love the doctor, I've been seeing him since I was a child when he started at Walmart. This time around I visited for a contact exam and it all went well. I've been waiting 2 months for my contacts to get here. They still can't give me an estimated time or date. When I call they don't answer or they just say "they will be here next week". When I come around to get another set of sample contacts, no matter what time of day I come they are closed. Their sign says they will be back at 2. I've been waiting for 40 mins and nobody has opened the door. I would leave and come back later but I'm sure they'll be closed. On top of all this they have already charged me and my insurance for the contacts, Again doctor is wonderful but the staff doesn't care to help or try to help you.
This review has been almost a year in the making... so here it goes. I've seen Dr Blankenship since moving to San Angelo in 2013 when he was located at Walmart. When he moved to Caplan Eye Center, I followed. I never had any issues until last year (2024). I made an appointment online, however they called me to reschedule because the day was already taken. They then proceeded to let me know I had a past due balance form my visit from 2023. The amount was over $100 and couldn't see me until I paid it. (I know could be worse). When I asked why I had a bill as my eye insurance always has covered my appointment, and I always paid my co-pay. I come to find out they billed my MEDICAL INSURANCE rather than my eye insurance and it obviously didn't cover my exams. (I wear contacts) They were BOTH on file. I informed them I never received any bill from them about my balance and this could have been resolved way earlier. The lady on the phone proceeded to tell me that I should have gotten an EOB from my BCBS (even though it says this is not a bill) which proceeded to tell them I did not receive that either. When I asked why they did this, they couldn't give me an answer. I asked if they could go back and bill the correct insurance and they refused because it was out of the time frame. I even contacted my eye insurance, and they informed they could in fact re-bill they just had to go through another process. When I contacted them back about the information my eye insurance informed me with, they continue to refuse to correct their mistake and informed me that I am responsible for the balance. I continued to argue and asked to speak with the manager (Karen move I know) and the lady on the phone proceeded to tell me she was in fact the manager. And that they were not going to fix anything and that I am responsible for the amount. When I informed them that I will get a lawyer involved for incorrect billing, I was then hung up on. Not even 10 minutes later I got an email from Dr. Blankenship gaslighting me saying I signed a form saying I agreed to pay any balance that insurance did not cover. I proceeded to inform him that I have no issue paying what I owe, but they did not bill the correct insurance and I refuse to pay what my eye Insurance already covers. I informed them that this is their mistake and until it is corrected, they will be responsible for the balance since it was their mistake. I then proceeded to get a letter via email shortly after releasing me as a patient as if I was ever going to go back after being treated like that, gaslighted and dismissed of their mistake.
