Eye Unit, Southampton General Hospital

I wanted to say a massive thank you to the amazing nurses and doctors working tonight at the emergency eye unit(17/2/2026) Sam, Pauline, Auie, Kelly, lacey and Dr A abudo. You will know who iam once i finish this post, also an extra thank you to the politest lady who spoke to me on the phone. Thank you for being so kind! I do visit the eye unit often as I have a regular occurrence to a high pressure with my left eye. I thank you so much for you patience and professional approach. Your such a good team and you all deserve every blessing there is to give. Thank you Mr Ornoy

We have been going here for nearly 2 years with my daughter and they have been just amazing. I am immune suppressed and they didn't bat an eye lid at wiping everything down twice for me. They are so clean and I see them constantly cleaning after each patient. We especially think Marina (who takes some of the images ) is just wonderful. What an absolute credit to the nursing staff she is. She is always so bright, happy and so positive. She always makes our visit such a wonderful one. We cannot thank you enough for the amazing care we receive. I also had to have laser treatment in the unit and also just found the whole eye department just superb 10/10 Thank you again.

Rude blonde woman at reception who has an awful attitude from the start and talks to people like they are stupid. Spent 4 hours waiting in eye A&E there yesterday to get treatment for my 2 year old. Frustrating, but it's what you expect from NHS A&E. What I didn't expect was to be asked to come back in for a review today at (precisely) 2:10pm. Arrived and was told to wait. Asked how long the appointment would be and rude receptionist said "I don't know why you think you have an appointment. That is an arrival time. You will wait 4 hours like everyone else and there are a LOT of people in front of you who are more of an emergency" I told them that wasn't communicated to us and had we known it wasn't an appointment, we would have come after our child's nap and preferably made a GP appointment to review on Monday, as he was much better and symptoms were almost gone. We waited an hour and still hadn't even been seen by the triage nurse. My son was crying and hungry and desperate for sleep. We said we were leaving and will call the GP on Monday to review the meds. We were then publicly called irresponsible by a member of staff in front of the whole waiting room. If you can avoid going to this terribly run place, I would. There was an older lady in the waiting room who said she was there 12 hours yesterday and told to come back for review at 11am today - and still hadn't been seen at 3:30pm when we left. Disgusting 3rd world level care. Apparently Bournemouth and Salisbury eye hospitals are much better

The ESSU doctors and nurses were wonderful. 3 days as an in-patient facing horrible outcomes possibly. But due to a million tests and wonderful medical treatment, with amazing nursing support and care, I'm making a full recovery. Thank you so much You are all fabulous Enjoy the biscuits. And fruit!

On a cruise from Hamburg to Great Britain, I developed a serious problem with my retina overnight. Fortunately, the first port of call was Southampton. At the eye clinic there, I received excellent help with great kindness, helpfulness and medical expertise. I will never forget the commitment of all the staff there.

I had an eye test in Vision Express today and They sent me to Eye Unit immediately for an EMERGENCY because they have found corneal ulcer 1.5mm IT CAN LEAD TO VISION LOSS ! I'm driving for a living so I can lost my job! I went into this place and the ''doctor'' unfortunately I do not know his name... HE SMILED AT MY FACE CONSTANTLY AND SAID HE ONLY CAN SEE A SCARE IN MY EYES. I DO NOT NEED ANY HELP. I WALKED OFF. Thank you Unit eye!!

Went to emergency because my eye was very uncomfortable due to calcium spots under my eyelid, a lovely doctor removed them on the day which was a little uncomfortable but hey it's your eye and that was expected. I was in and out within two hours. Absolutely fantastic I personally can't say anything bad about our marvellous NHS..

Excellent care, superb doctor and staff very friendly and helpful. The only downside was the waiting It was an hour and a half wait before I was seen.
