After cataract surgery four years ago, my vision had once again become cloudy. My eye doctor recommended YAG laser surgery at Hoopes. It was instantly miraculous! I thought I needed stronger reading glasses, but after YAG, my vision is amazing! The surgery was painless and quick. Dr. Buckner and all of the staff were wonderful. The office staff is friendly and helpful. If you are considering YAG, don't wait. Hoopes is the place and you won't be disappointed,
I cannot begin to explain how good the team at Hoopes Vision Draper have been to me and my spouse. We struggled with sightedness for many years, going between vision appointments, many glasses, hundreds of contacts, the works. Three years ago, Dr. Hoopes Sr. took the most amazing care of both my spouse and I, correcting our vision so thoroughly that we now see 20/15. It's been such a world changer for us and I cannot thank him and his wonderful team enough for everything they've done for us. Thank you, thank you, thank you for quite literally changing the way we live our lives for the better
I had Lasik here a year ago, and while I'm pleased with the final outcome and overall glad I made the decision to have the procedure, there are some things I wish I had known in retrospect.
One of which is the severity of pain on the day of surgery, after you are discharged. I wish they had told me to take a pain reliever proactively. They say, "go home and go to sleep" as if it's that simple. Within an hour of being home, the numbing agents wore off and the pain was excruciating, to the degree that I was aggressively sobbing - which was a concern as my eyes were grimacing shut. After suffering for about 3 hours, I finally relented and took an opiate medication I had leftover from wisdom tooth removal. I wished I would have taken it straight away!
At my day 2 follow up appointment, I was told I had some abnormal cells beneath one of the flaps they had made the day before.
I'm not sure if this was a contributor to my negative experience or not. Recovery was much longer and more painful than I had been told/sold to expect. In hindsight, I would have appreciated a more realistic set of expectations.
Overall it's a very nice clinic but wow do they ever shuffle you around. Clearly a numbers game - I never really understood who my actual doctor was, or if I even technically had one assigned. I saw so many!
I went in for my 1 year follow up this week and saw the doctor that performed my actual surgery. He was so clearly VERY ill. While he was masked, which I appreciated, I did not feel it was appropriate to be working that closely (literally) with patients when he was clearly at the peak of an infectious period with illness. I wish I had spoken up and requested another doctor or to reschedule. He coughed and sneezed into his hands repeatedly, and would then apply hand sanitizer, as if that's to solve everything. It didn't.
36 hours later and I am beginning to feel symptomatic. Body aches, heavy chest, massive headache/sinus pressure.
Clearly this is the kind of workplace that either doesn't provide staff with the appropriate resources to take time off when it's necessary, or somehow discourages them from doing so. Anyone who observed for a few seconds could plainly see that he should not have been working, or doing anything really, other than resting. I genuinely hope I don't fall as ill as he was, as it looked miserable. I'm upset that I'm writing this. No one's doctor should be the reason they are sick!
Anyway - fine facility. Overall successful outcome, despite some serious setbacks.
My eyes work, and for that I am grateful.
I'm hindsight I wish I would have shopped around and found a smaller clinic with a less "assembly line" style approach.
I recently had cataract surgery here and the staff was so helpful and so kind. The procedure was so easy. I was completely at ease and not sure of results since still healing but right now I can drive without glasses at all and watch movies without glasses. That alone is a miracle!!!
My vision results after LASIK have been fantastic. I am seeing 20/15 just one week post-op, so I want to start by acknowledging the excellent clinical outcome. However, a few experiences have significantly affected how I feel about Hoopes.
During the procedure, Dr. Moshirfar was surprisingly rude and unprofessional. I was never offered a sedative, and I clearly remember receiving different amounts of numbing solution in each eye. I was very anxious, and my eyes were twitching involuntarily. Instead of offering reassurance, Dr. Moshirfar repeatedly told me to "stop twitching" and let out multiple grunts and sighs of frustration. This only increased my anxiety at a moment when I had no control over what my body was doing. When the nurse asked me to sit up afterward, I genuinely thought something had gone wrong based on his behavior. Thankfully, the surgery was a success and my vision is excellent, but the bedside manner was extremely disappointing.
My one week post-op appointment added to this frustration. When I scheduled it after my one day post-op visit, I specifically asked if it would be a quick 15 minute appointment because I had an important meeting afterward. I was assured this would not be a problem. Instead, I waited an hour past my appointment time before being seen, which left me rushing.
Hoopes is clearly a leader in LASIK, and Dr. Moshirfar is undeniably skilled. The results speak for themselves. However, the overall patient experience, especially in terms of professionalism and respect for patients' time, was disappointing. My vision outcome is excellent, but the customer service and bedside manner kept this from being a five star experience.
While my surgery process so far was great. They got me in quick for a consultation. They got me in for surgery and the surgery team was polite and great to talk with....the post op appointments have been excessively late. So far I've had two follow up appointments and I have sat for over an hour before a physician comes in to assess my eyes. The physician comes in for a whopping 5 minutes asked me some questions looked at my eyes and told me to have a good day. My time is important and sitting for over an hour on post op appointments does seem to make me feel like now that they've received my money and completed the big task that I'm now a back burner patient. I have been late to pick up my kids due to the lack of timely-ness at my follow up appointments and for that reason I am giving them 3 stars which I feel is more than generous.
Hoopes Vision center is really centered around the patient and not the bottom line. We went in for an initial consultation for my husband for lasik in one eye (for distance) and left with a contact in his eye to trial the idea. The doctor's we talked to were not pushy. They were not asking for money down or "this will be the best thing you ever did for yourself" kinda talk and I sensitive to that since I teach persuasive writing so I was impressed that anytime my husband had a question they gave him a straightforward answer even if it was negative. Then! They would ask more questions about how this negative reply would impact him? Is it something he could live with? Maybe glasses for driving is the better choice? It was a long (almost 3 hours) appointment but we left (with the contact in his eye to trial mono-vision) feeling better 1) about his options and 2) about making the right choice in picking Hoopes.
I LOVED my experience at Hoopes!! The consultation was thorough and I appreciate that they went over everything prior to the procedure. I also like that they stagger appointments so you're not really around other patients. I felt very well informed about the procedures, aftercare, costs, side effects, everything. I ended up having LASIK and the procedure went flawlessly. With my prescription being about -6 in both eyes I knew I was on the cusp of not being a candidate and I appreciate that they had multiple doctors looking over my scans and numbers. My optometrist is very happy with the results as I'm now 20/10 a month post surgery and expected to get a little better. It's been over 20 years since I have been able to see unassisted! Honestly when it comes to your eyes it's worth it to go with the very best, and that's Hoopes Vision!
