Dr. Robert C. Kwun, MD

Happy to give a 5 star rating and was going to do so for the Retina Associates of Utah but thought instead, it'd be more relevant to give it to Dr. Kwun who saw my father in law first thing on a Saturday morning after we discovered a retinal tear late Friday evening and though he was off the following week, he helped to arrange for the surgery to be done right away and followed up there afterwards. Quite contrary to the one review which clearly came from someone who must be passive aggressive. Thank you Dr. Kwun and Retina Associates of Utah for promptly taking care of my father in law's vision emergency.

Yesterday my mom had an appointment with Dr. Richard C. Kwun and we had a terrible experience with this doctor. My mom had her appointment to have her eyes checked due to her diabetes and I was with her as her translator. She was referred by her clinic, Community Health Center Inc. Stephen D. Ractcliffe Medical Center. Back in February, her doctor from the clinic noticed a black spot on one of my mom's eyes and they took images of her eye and they were sent to IHC and she got a referral so they can get a second opinion. We go in to her appointment and the first nurse that was checking my mom's vision was nice and so far things were going fine. After my mom had her eyes dilated and after the other nurses took pictures of her eyes we were waiting to see the doctor. Dr. Kwun comes in with the nurse and asks my mom questions about her eye and what brought her in to the appointment. I let the doctor know that she was referred by her clinic and that's when he started giving a bad attitude. He turns around to the nurse next to him and says "you tell everyone else that next time we are only accepting referrals from an eye clinic and not from floaters. We are not accepting floaters". I looked at my mom with so much confusion and I was shocked to hear those words come out of the doctor's mouth and it made me mad. I had to compose myself because I didn't want to stick down to his level and I only wanted this appointment to rap it up at that point. That's when I asked the first time "is there a problem that we are here?" And his response was that my mom should've been referred to by an eye clinic and not them. He asked for the name of the clinic and I told him that it was Community Health Center Inc and he looked at me with so much confusion as if we are the ones wasting his precious time. He then goes on and asks in a snarky way if she was here for an eye exam for glasses and I told him no! My mom wasn't there for glasses and she just wanted answers about the black spot in her eyes and then asks again the name of the clinic. At this point I was already mad about his attitude and now he asks again for the name of my mom's clinic? Make it make sense. I'm pretty sure IHC was suppose to have all that info on my mom's notes including the images of her eyes so I don't understand why there was so much confusion. By then he steps out and tells the nurse to dilate my mom's eyes again. And I spoke to the nurse when the doctor stepped out and I let her know that his approach was not okay and that both myself and my mom were extremely uncomfortable. The nurse apologizes and after that while Dr. Kwun was checking my mom's eyes I was answering questions to the nurse and I showed her the name of my mom's clinic and I gave the name of my mom's doctor. Luckily they didn't find anything concerning in my mom's eye and the doctor did advise that my mom should get her eye exams yearly to make sure her eyes are okay. Overall, I feel like my mom could've had a much better experience with a much different doctor and not by a doctor with an attitude of a warn out snarky nurse. It's already stressful as is having to deal with the upcoming bills that my mom will be receiving, having to deal with a doctor like that SHOULDN'T be one of them. It shouldn't have mattered where my mom got her referral from. And from my understanding, IHC works with Community Health Centers so please do better and not act so brand new.

I had an appointment with Dr Kwun scheduled 6 months in advance. I received a call a couple weeks before my appointment asking to reschedule the same day but later in the day. I accepted and changed my schedule. After arriving, I was promptly taken back and dilated , had an eye scan, and asked to sit in the hall. I waited over an hour, no communication from staff whatsoever about the delay. Many people arrived after I did, and passed by me, saw the Doctor, and left. No communication from staff AT ALL! after more than an hour, I finally got up and told the staff I was leaving. They said okay and did I want to reschedule. Of course I don't want to reschedule after watching people come and go as I am left to sit. Terrible service!
