UVA Health Eye Clinic

This place is apparently unable to improve despite their review responses. My sister came home in a state after apparently being told, "if you want surgery we'll give you some or if you are okay then go on". WHAT!? That's hardly an evaluation and someone in management/supervision need to finally intervene and protect UVA health's reputation.

Dr Carter is great, but honestly it's not even worth it to come here. Half the Drs are rude and you wait 2-3 hours every single time you come here. What's the point of scheduling an appointment? Not coming back anymore

I came to make an appointment the receptionist was on the phone buzy texting I said few times hello she ignored me I was with my baby standing the whole time and she was very mean she made my appointment 7 months later to come I told her I need early then that she said I can't help then she won't talk to me anymore that's why I give 1 star very rude receptionist.

Don't come here if you have to drive 1 hour and 30 mins for them to do absolutely nothing. If I go blind one day it will be this office's fault. Edit: I just had an mrv ordered by another doctor that is consistent with IIH/psuedo tumor cerebri they also were able to see the optic nerve swelling that like I said does not always show because it is mild... dismissing me bc it did not show then but a copy of it showing before was crazy. Should sue this office for malpractice because I am not imagining my symptoms which have been most consistent with classic iih. Never come here unless you want to go blind or something. This doctor was horrible.

UVA health is a miracle to those in need. I know first hand. The eye clinic, however, is a joke on its best days. There are good people there but a majority of the staff are not that great. They also use a "call center" type system so good luck if you ever need help with anything and can't just show up to harass them because you will NEVER get any communication back. I should've had my contacts 10 months ago. Kaufman forgot to order them, then the ones he ordered were completely wrong so I got to wait again, then his assistant that orders them, Dorian (who calls from home, when she does decide to call and took months to follow up after we called multiple times), dropped the ball twice in trying to get them to me since then because they took so long I actually moved states. Nice 2 grand flushed down the drain. Take your time and money and invest in better care. You deserve it. I regret every wasted moment I spent there and like some have mentioned given how they overbook like mad you will wait hours at times. It's just not worth it. Very poor experience from start to finish. Kicker is it never technically got finished. I payed thousands and got nothing. Fool me once.

I've had three appointments in this clinic in the sixteen years I've lived in the area, and my daughter has had two. I've been seen by Residents, and feel I've gotten fabulous information and care every single time. It's wonderful to be seen by physicians who are willing to explain what is happening with our eyes. A couple of times I've had to wait for several hours, but the care is so very worth it. Today I was seen in five minutes, examined, and my eyes dilated and then reexamined. My options were clearly laid out for me, and though the appointment was quick, I felt it was thorough and not rushed. Coolest thing yet? I have a FRECKLE on the back of my right eye and they showed me a picture of it and let me take a photo with my phone! How cool is that? When I called in the fall to make an appointment, there were over 600 people the staff had to call back to schedule for spring appointments, yet they were cheery and dedicated to calling them all back quickly. They let me know that although the clinic is supposed to be for specialty cases, they take anyone who makes an appointment. I had surgery on my eyes as a child, and I'm so very grateful to have this wonderful resource in my town!

I have been going to this ophthalmology clinic for years. The doctors have always been fabulous, but the supporting staff was not (curt, robotic, seemed to hate their jobs)-- until my latest visit this week. The doctors were still fabulous, but the supporting staff was fabulous as well. Heather in particular treated everyone with great kindness and respect. The attitude of all the supporting staff was much better than usual. Thank you Heather for making what is typically a dreaded appointment, a pleasant experience.

I would leave zero stars for the clinic if I could. We ALWAYS wait at least an hour before being seen and scheduling is ridiculous. If doctors are running behind every day they should schedule less appointments. How do you expect a toddler to sit in a lobby for 2-4 hours? I hope to take him elsewhere but right now it's the only place that accepts my insurance. The actual doctor we have seen (Dr. Carter) is great, but I'm not sure it's worth having a fussy toddler
