Tidewater Eye Centers

My endocrinologist harasses me every couple of years to get an eye exam. She told me to man-up and go get it done and made a referral to Tidewater Eye Center on Battlefield Blvd. I had my appointment on Thursday 3/7. My experience was extremely positive. The wait was minimal. The facility is clean, organized and staffed by competent and friendly employees. They were fairly busy during my visit, but seem to have a very organized and efficient process. During the exam, Dr. Iacobucci was very friendly and took the time to explain what he was checking and the importance of it all. He obviously has a busy workload but made me feel important and his current priority. In fact my interactions with all the team members, and there were several were all 10/10.

I have been going to Tidewater Eye Care for over 10 years and never had any problem with customer service before. However, my most recent experience (an emergency). I left several messages for a return call and never received a call back. When I finally got through they could not see me for 45 days even after I explained the urgency of the situation. I finally secured an appointment with another Doctor that could fit me in right away. I requested that they fax to the new doctor a copy of my current prescriptions which as of this day have not been received. It's a shame because I really liked my doctor at Tidewater Eye Care.

Overbilled - Avoid if you use Tricare Select or other Federal programs. I had my annual eye exam in January 2024 using my Tricare Select benefits, which the office confirmed they accepted when I scheduled the appointment. I've used this same benefit at my previous eye doctor in Florida without any issues. However, nearly a year later, I received an unexpected $100 bill from Virginia Eye Consultants (doing business as Tidewater Eye Associates). It seems they charge as if they are out-of-network, despite initially claiming they accept Tricare, resulting in unexpected charges for my routine exam. The only positive aspect (and why they get an extra star) of my visit was that Dr. Tomko was very nice and thorough. Unfortunately, the billing issues and misinformation regarding insurance coverage have left a sour taste. I would caution anyone using Tricare or other Federal programs to be aware of potential surprises with their billing.

I had a very good consultation with Dr Iacobucci and exam by his staff. Looking forward to next steps. UPDATE A month after my initial review I had cataract surgery. The surgery procedure was like a well oiled machine. I'm now in recovery and everything seems to be going well. I have a lot of confidence in Dr Iacobucci. Sometime next year I'll have him remove the cataract in my other eye. I have complete confidence in him and his staff.

I am so happy with Dr Edmonds and the entire staff at Tidewater Eye Centers. I have been to all three locations and the customer service is outstanding. I just had cataract surgery in my left eye. I never could see even a little distance. I got the regular lens implant and now I am able to see more than I have ever been able to in my entire life. I still need glasses, but I'm sure the RX will be much better!

I have been going to Tidewater Eye for years. Seeing my eye Dr and the retina specialist (2 times a yr). Since they have been sold the level of treatment of patients has greatly diminished. I love my doctors but the billing and patient services are getting ridiculous. Recently during my yearly visit I told the technician (2)I needed a new prescription . After my 2 and 1/2 hours I realized on my way home I was not given it. I immediately called and was told I had to come back "today" to get it. They could not email me a copy. They did agree to mail it. Now on my $510 bill I was charged another $120 for a copy of the prescription (which insurance doesn't cover) . They now reduced it to $60 since insurance didn't cover. I am objecting to pay for something I already was paying for! Too much big business!

I was very nervous about having my eyes messed with at all, much less having cataract surgery, but I had to do it and everyone at Tidewater Eye Center was great!! Very nice, informative and professional. Dr Edmonds did a perfect job on my eye! I can't believe how much better I see and I had no pain. I highly recommend going here for any eye issues.
