Future Sight Optometry

I was appalled at how Dr. Fardink spoke to me in August of 2025. I had been in the ER several times for headaches and I was diagnosed with a neurological condition called occipital neuralgia by several doctors at OrthoVA. I explained this to him. I came to see Dr. Fardink in August 2025 because I was seeing things that weren't there. Have you ever looked at the sun, and looked away, and you still saw a blue-green circle? I was seeing these "photonegative afterimages" just looking at things around my home. Dr. Fardink knew nothing about occipital neuralgia. He seemed flustered by my symptoms, reached for a textbook, and disappeared for a number of minutes to read. When he returned he asked me more questions and gave me a serious of what seemed like nonsense tests to me. He flashed a book in front of me and tested me, page by page, for colorblindness. I had not complained of confusing my colors. He did some other vision tests and looked frustrated and stumped. Finally, Dr. Fardink said to me in the most insensitive way, that "You probably have a brain tumor. It's okay, we'll get in there and get it out." I was flabbergasted. He wasn't an oncologist or a neurologist, how could he say such a thing? And who "gets in there to get it out?" Not an optometrist at Walmart, mind you, but an actual neurosurgeon. He didn't ask me any questions about my diagnosis or hospital tests. When I shared this "brain tumor" diagnosis with my physical therapy office, they were appalled. My physical therapist told me the only way to diagnose a brain tumor is A) through a blood test or B) with a brain MRI. Even a brain CT scan would do, but taking note of some odd symptoms with a few vision tests isn't sufficient. If Dr. Fardink had done a thorough investigation, he would have asked me if I had a brain CT scan or brain MRI. My brain CT scan had been done a few weeks before I saw Dr. Fardink and my results came back negative for a brain tumor. But he didn't even ask. Over the past few months, my physical therapist has told everyone they know this gruesome story as an illustration of how irresponsible healthcare providers can be.

I have been wearing glasses for years and other eye doctors have missed that my eyes are seeing with different powers. Dr. Fardink uncovered this within minutes and gave me contacts that have been life changing. No more headaches and tension in my head. 10/10 would recommend.

Dr Fardink is the best optometrist I have seen in my 55 years. He is extremely knowledgeable and efficient, and he takes time to explain what he is finding out or what the patient needs. He doesn't rush you and he listens to your questions. I couldn't see well and saw him on an impromptu basis. He fixed my prescription that another doctor had just done incorrectly and now I can see so much better. I live in DC and he is so good I am preparing drive 150 miles again to Richmond just to see him! He also suggested yellow glasses for night driving that really made a difference. He is fantastic!

Dr. Fardink of Future Sight Optometry not only spent the time to find the perfect prescription to restore my vision to 20/15 or better, but also found that I needed prism correction in the lenses which in turn has stopped me from having the Migraine headaches I have had off and on for the last 45 years.
