I've been to East Hill Optometey twice now, and both times were great experiences. The eye physician there is so kind, knowledgeable and thorough. Back in April, he did an eye exam for me and helped fit me with contact lenses so I could see while snorkeling in Hawaii. The lens samples he gave me were perfect and the trip wound up excellent, in no small part from being able to see all the cool fish underwater!
Then yesterday, I went in to get an updated glasses prescription. Same thing, doc was outstanding. The front desk attendant was very sweet as well. I thought I'd left my debit card behind after leaving, and the staff checked the whole premise and called me back letting me know they'd looking. It wound up that it had slipped out of my wallet and was in my own purse, but I was so grateful that they spent the time to both look and follow up with me.
I'd recommend this location for any eye need. My only criticism is wishing they had a more extensive glasses selection. Thank you!
The doctor is fine and professional, but one of the front desk receptionists is the reason I won't be returning. Her dismissive and rude attitude made every visit uncomfortable and frustrating. I've never had an issue with the actual eye care, but the way I was treated when asking for basic help, was completely unacceptable. If the staff can't treat patients with respect, I'll take my care elsewhere.
Update: I've now seen the business's response, and I want to clarify: I never asked for a refill; I asked to purchase a few contact lenses until my upcoming exam. One of the receptionists was dismissive and unhelpful throughout the interaction. When I asked for my prescription to buy lenses elsewhere, her attitude got worse. Their public response also mentioned personal details I never included, which is unprofessional. This only confirms why I won't be returning.
Decent, but nothing special. I did appreciate that Dr. Lum kept the visit pretty simple and straightforward. (I do not recommend Kent Eye Clinic, where in my opinion they overcomplicate things.) The girl who checked me in was nice. When I got there I was surprised by how run down it looked. There were no parking lines on the asphalt so i wasn't sure if where I parked was ok. When I got in I noticed that kind of musty smell that you get in old buildings, and nothing seemed very clean or organized. I have never seen an optometry office like that. There were advertisements on the windows and around the office that looked like they had just been taken out of magazines.
Just needed a new prescription. Called them on a Saturday at 11 and they were able to set me an appointment for 12:15. They were knowledgeable about my insurance and were courtious when telling me what was covered. Both Wendy and Angela were terrific, as was Dr. Lum. I tend to be hyper critical of all types of medical professionals, and only want my care handled by people that actually care. I'm lucky I stumbled upon them, and am very grateful for their service, help and compassion.
Dr. Lum is great!! I really like this optometrist, and usually I detest having to come back, but it's not so bad with Dr. Lum and his staff!
2021 edit: I still come here and was recently fitted for contacts, something I was really nervous about. Dr. Lum was super nice and patient with me, and even one of those ladies from the front gave me some tips. The people here have always been incredibly nice and friendly, and when I've broken a pair of glasses, they always do what they can to make sure my glasses are fixed as quickly as possible.
Dr. Arthur Lum was my optopfor my medical condition, I've never encounter his staffing as polite, they are rude unprofessional most especially his billing person name Lisa. I paid my payments arrangement for a balance owed, but I cannot schedule my exam per Angela says that she'll have to see with the office manager. Its so sad to have to work with office like this, Lisa also threatened to send me to collection. Sorry Dr Lum, you've been a great optometrist for me but I'll have yo go else where. Thank you for your service and taking care of my eyes. Good luck with your unprofessional staff.
If you need a good eye doctor this would be the place. However if you need any office support forget it. Not sure anyone here understands how a phone works. They really don't understand how to follow up When you question the office manager she just lies won't spend another dollar with this company.
Doctor lum has been my eye doctor sense I was in 2nd grade so for over 30 years he is an extremely wonderful kind person. However I hate to say it but I cannot stand his new staff !!! They're very unprofessional rude!!! They do not represent doctor lum at all, I feel like they don't even try. He is the complete opposit of how his staff acts and treats people! So if you can make it past them, you'll be truly satisfied with your services.
