Kind Optical

Update: I lost a nose pad over the weekend. When I tried to find it online I could not because it was a special one. I called back to Kind Optical after having my glasses for 2 years and they not only had one of the nose pieces but replaced it for free. Far and away the worst customer service I've ever received. I thought I'd patronize a local business when I moved to West Allis but it turned out to be a huge mistake. After purchasing a $900 pair of lenses and frames I never got a follow up call to address concerns that I had about the fit and vision quality. Then, only a month later, my "anti scratch coated lenses" got scratched up by a soft towel while cleaning them. The lady I talked to on the phone about this was condescending and told me I'd have to order new lenses. They ended up replacing my lenses under warrenty for free but only after having to be rude with them. Then the lenses took almost 2 months to arrive because the "manufacturer screwed up the first time." Now I have been waiting for my prescription to be mailed to me for 2 weeks. Everything they do is slow, sub par, and far more expensive. Plus you have to deal with their employees' horrible attitudes/customer service skills. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else.

I meant to write this a couple months ago when I received my new glasses. Actually, new lenses in my old frames. Danielle went above and beyond to make sure I was happy with them. Amazing service! Unfortunately, the doctor was incredibly rude. She actually scolded me for placing my glasses on her TV tray "desk".

Best place for glasses! I had went to 5 different places before coming here and they all got my prescription wrong. Danielle is such a pleasant and knowledgeable person. Eye doctor spent a lot of time with me and finally after 5 years I have clear vision! Will be coming here always for my glasses.

Been going here forever. Dr. Merkel is nice and understanding of my eye issues. Have a nice selection of glasses in all price ranges. I get the newest glasses which is pricey but its my only accessory and my glasses always fit perfectly (placement of bifocal etc. )

If i could give zero stars i would. This place is a train wreck. First of all.. i waited an hour after my scheduled appointment. The office never called me to inform me they were behind our ask if i wanted to reschedule. They just took my paperwork and let me sit in the waiting area. No updates the entire time I waited. Secondly. . I ordered my glasses over a month ago. After two hours and them showing me several pairs of glasses that i couldn't afford, I finally settled on a reasonably priced pair and paid in full. Not once did i receive a call or an update. I had to contact them and leave messages, which were never returned. I finally got a hold of someone at the one month mark. She informed me that my glasses didn't pass inspection and the insurance company would not let me have them. It's been another week. They haven't called or even left me a message with am update regarding my glasses. I'm pretty sure they pocketed my money at this point. i never want to return here and I'm disappointed in my insurance for recommending a place with such poor customer service.

I've worn glasses all of my life. Most of the time I got heavy, clunky glass lens glasses that weighed a ton, and didn't do a perfect job of correcting my astigmatism. I really didn't see all that great at distance, even with my glasses on. Have been with Kind since the 80's when they were located on North Ave., before they moved to present location. Dr. Merkel was spot on with my prescription from the start. It has been adjusted very gradually as I have aged. As an elderly man, I see better while driving etc. than I did in my 20's. They also coaxed me to evolve out of the heavy glass specs and into the ultra lightweight Silhouette line, which I have worn exclusively since 2002 or so. Quite simply, the best glasses available in the world. Period. Expensive, but worth every penny.

Kind Optical has little to offer. Compared to Wisconsin Vision a mile down the same road Kind falls far behind in customer service, product selection, and cost. While the optometrist was knowledgeable and friendly, she was also short and hurried. I purchased contacts for myself and glasses for a family members. However, when I asked if they could provide my glasses measurements I was told that information would cost me $40 extra so I refused; I went to Wisconsin Vision to ask their price for same and they did it for free! I will never use Kind Optical again and will return to Wisconsin Vision even if they cost a few dollars more.

I will never go to Kind Optical again, and I recommend that you read this before thinking about going yourself. I saw Dr. Karen Merkle for my annual appointment. She did do a thorough examination of my eyes, listened to my issues that I'd been experiencing with dry eyes, and prescribed a high-end daily contact. She also said I had an astigmatism (which is the first I've ever heard that). She gave me 10 days worth of contacts to sample. At my follow up appointment, I told her that these contacts were very uncomfortable, and that my left eye felt very strained. She blew me off and basically tried to force me to get these expensive contacts. I asked if I could try the Acuvue brand because that's what brand I've used in the past, and again she brushed me off, escorted me out of the room, and left me to talk to the secretary. The secretary was somewhat helpful in that she got Dr. Merkle to agree to let me try sample another contact brand, but then tried to up-sell me glasses which was completing frustrating. I ended up paying cash out of pocket to get a second opinion at Lens Crafters. The eye doctor there was amazing (Dr. Scott Schumacher). He stated that I did NOT have an astigmatism, he prescribed the Acuvue brand daily contact (which have been amazing and SO comfortable), but the worst part, he discovered that Dr. Karen Merkle actually prescribed me the wrong strength of contacts (they have a machine at lens crafters which helps them guide their prescribing) which is why my left eye had felt so strained!! I have never in my life had such issues with eye care, and if you value your eyes, don't go to Kind Optical.
