They don't answer their phones nor return voicemails, nor will they follow up if they've not seen you in awhile. I don't know how hard it is to answer the phone or call patients back, but they just seemingly don't care to be bothered. I'd rather find a doctors office with staff that genuinely care. (I had to reschedule an appt last Aug '25, they never called answered when I called, never returned my voicemail, and never called asking to see if we still needed ongoing care, which we do, I'm going somewhere else).
Adriana is genuinely the rudest person I have ever encountered in any medical setting. Her behavior completely shocked me. Because of the way she spoke to me and treated me, I will never return -- and I'll certainly let my friends, colleagues, and community know to avoid this kind of experience.
It is incredibly disappointing that such a prestigious institution would allow someone with this level of disrespect and lack of professionalism to represent them at the front desk. Patients who come to Ratner are often dealing with real pain, stress, and vulnerability. The very least they deserve is compassion, basic courtesy, and a sense that they are being helped -- not dismissed or spoken to aggressively.
Doctors at UCSD provide exceptional care, but having a front desk like this undermines everything they do. No patient should be treated the way I was treated today. UCSD needs to take this seriously.
I have been going to Ratner from 1999- 2015. I did switch over to Shiley. If important things come up, I go back to Ratner. This is the only eye place I've been to with my nystagmus and strabismus. Every time you go to Ratner you will wait 3 hours to see him. But its 100% worth it. He takes his time and he's very personable. I will always keep coming back. I also live in Montana and going back for a 3 hour waiting appointment till I see him, 100% worth it.
Only make an appointment here if you want to wait 1-2 HOURS in a tiny room to be seen for only 5 minutes. If you have kids, this is the absolute worst doctors appointment imaginable, especially if you have a young baby or a child who is anxious about the doctor. This happened to us at our first 2 appointments. They also never answer their phone, does not matter the time of day or day of the week. Their message says they will return your call, but they don't. I've had to call several times to give them insurance information or change an appointment, but can't expect to get an answer. The nurses and doctors are wonderful, but we will definitely not be making appointments at this clinic anymore.
My experience here was beyond awful. Save your time and go somewhere else. I waited over 6 weeks to get an appointment for my 4 month old baby. I showed up on time, with an alert happy baby. Almost immediately, I was brought into a room, and then proceeded to wait for over 90 minutes to be seen. At 1 hour I said sometime, at which point a student resident came in and I asked to see the doctor. After waiting for another 30 minutes without being seen, a cranky, tired baby, I decided my time is more valuable and left. I spoke with the office manager on my way out, and asked that they call me when the doctor was ready to see me. Bottom line, they didn't respect me enough to be on time. The doctor never saw me. The administration and caseload at UCSD is awful. This is not my first experience at UCSD like this either (UCSD dermatology turned me away for being 5 minutes late last year). I don't doubt the skill of UCSD doctors, and the reputation (I have a PHD from UCSD), but the level of respect for clients needs drastic improvement. I can't wait to get a $500 doctor bill for a visit that never happened. I guess I didn't learn my lesson from UCSD dermatology. Save your time and go somewhere else.
I am so thankful for Dr. Granet and his team. They treated me with such compassion, fixed my eye issue and changed my life. Always on time and professional with a wonderful bedside manner. I 100% recommend them to anyone who needs eye surgery.
Actually got there early and waited only 10 minutes to get called in. I received a very thorough preliminary exam from Maria a technician. And then a resident doctor came in and gave me a thorough examination of my eyes and discovered what my problem was.
Dr Mansoor Movaghar examined me further and told me how he could correct it the problem. I am glad I will finally get relief. Looking forward to my surgery!!! A good visit!!!
If you have serious eye problems and want to be able to see do not go here. I thought I was seeing the best surgeon around (Dr. Grante) But he is not. He will manage to do your surgery but he will not be around for you afterwards to make sure everything turned out, which it did not. I would not recommend this to anyone. It is pure torture to not have your physician around when you need them. And they have no one for you to see that stands in for them. We are talking about our vision not a simple bump or bruise. Do not go here.
