Optical Illusions of San Mateo | An Optometric Practice - Hillsdale Mall

I ordered glasses from them on a Saturday afternoon, from the San Ramon store. Later that night I realized I wanted a larger lens size for comfort and called the next morning to make the change. These are $500 lenses that I will have to live with for years, so comfort matters. They told me the lab had already started making the lenses and the order could not be changed, this was less than 24 hours, maybe they move too fast and should consider a 24 hour time gap to allow to customer changes, which probably happens many times. They did offer to cancel the order and gave me a full refund, which I appreciate, and the representative was knowledgeable and helped me pick the right type of lenses. This is why I gave them 3 stars instead of 1. What I do not understand is why they refused to place a new order for the corrected lens size when I was ready to reorder immediately. Instead, they simply cancelled the order and sent me on my way. In other words, they would rather lose the sale than work with a customer who is trying to correct something reasonable less than 24 hours after placing a $500 order. That kind of inflexibility is not what I expect from a business that claims to provide personalized optical service. I will never go to them again.

Great experience as a first time patient at Optical Illusions in San Mateo. It was seamless, so easy to navigate on the patient portal, and in person was just as pleasant as it was over the phone. Victor was extremely helpful with walking me through options related to my coverage and he was very personable. Dr. Atean took time to explain the changes in my vision and how to best manage care moving forward. He was thorough, pleasant , respectful, and I didn't feel rushed through the process as being a first time patient. In addition, the selection of frames were amazing and they offered brands that I normally don't mind spending a pretty penny on! I look forward to referring friends and family to this practice!

I had a great experience as a new patient who needed an eye exam after many years. I'm horrible with names, but the woman who took pictures of my eyes and did my initial assessment was amazing - she explained the entire process in an easy-to-understand way, prepared me for each uncomfortable step, and made sure I was okay (it can be scary to have a close-up flash even as an adult!). Dr. Ngo was very detailed, friendly, and efficient. My visit was very thorough while being just the right length - no long waits at all. Location-wise, it's great - right next to Nordstrom / Andersen Bakery, so I recommend parking right there.

As a longstanding patient at Optical Illusions, I've had unparalleled experiences time and time again. During my most recent visit, Dr. Asslani left a profound impression; he is eminently affable and is vastly knowledgeable in optometry, conveying complex concepts in accessible layman's terms. Complementing this, Victor's inherently personable and earnest nature has consistently provided invaluable assistance in selecting frames across all my visits. Overall, Optical Illusions sets itself apart from its competitors- blending clinical brilliance with warm, professional temperament.

R. Victor went above and beyond for me. He was super patient, attentive, and gave me feedback while helping choose sunglass frames. Picking out suitable frames can be a nightmare for me. Not only did he help with the frames but also pointed out the benefits of the specific lenses that Maui has. Because of my intense and overwhelming struggle with choosing suitable frames, I hope he is available during my next visit. He was very confident in guiding me. Edwin was incredibly helpful in getting lenses made the same day for my 13-month-old son. Everyone at this location was friendly and accommodating. After a frustrating experience with another practice, Dr. Will To took the time to thoroughly explain my son's prescription needs and helped expedite the lens process. We'll definitely be switching to this practice for all of my son's future eye exams.

I did my eye exam here and purchased a pair of glasses. The optometrist was great. Most people who helped me with my glasses were also amazing. There was however one lady who said things that made me uncomfortable in all of the times I visited. Words that sounded condescending and unprofessional. I felt judged and unwelcome. I have conflicted feelings about this place.

The team at Optical Illusions in Hillsdale Mall is super helpful. In particular, Dr. Atean Asslani did an excellent job with my eye exam, explaining all the important details and answering all of my questions.
