I've been going here for over 20 years. The doctors I've worked with are great (5 star), but the overall experience is a 2:
I have worked with Dr. Quon and Dr. MacDonald for many years and love working with them both. They are the only reason why I keep coming back.
The overall experience, however, is not good. My visits usually can take close to two hours for a regular exam as they space out the different components of the visit with long gaps of waiting time in between. And afternoon appointments can be even worse when they're backed up and running behind.
When I arrived for my last visit, the receptionist who checked me in told me upon arrival that they no longer take my insurance (even though I was there only 6 months prior and they accepted it). I asked why they didn't let me know before I arrived and she had no response. She then said the exam portion would be $280 and the additional tests are on top of that, but she didn't know the prices for those. So without knowing how many hundreds of dollars on top of the exam I would be responsible for, I cancelled the additional tests and kept just the basic exam.
I would have emailed the office manager directly with my feedback, but there's no way to contact the office other than by phone according to the website.
The Optometrist assistant and the front desk was very rude to my husband back in 2016 . Of course, my husband was shocked and because both my husband and I have been patients of Dr. Robert Filer since 1996. Dr. Filer did a wonderful job on my husband's laser surgery and ophtalmic lens treatment back in 2016, we were very grateful for Dr. Filer's great skill. We have obviously admired his expertise. However, his front office staff should be carefully selected. Because of the trouble we experienced with the front office staffs' rudeness behavior back in 2016 we're hesitant to return. We've decided to seek out other ophthalmologists. Doctor was either not informed about it; nor, did he care to know about the terrible staffs' rudeness to his patients. We were very emotionally hurt and shocked by their front office staffs' behavior and wanted an explanation. Therefore, I am letting everyone know by writing this review on the staff's rudeness. Hopefully they have changed.
I have been a patient of Dr. Robert Filer for many years and have nothing but praise and gratitude for his expertise, his skill and his dedication to excellent patient care.
I have noticed a small decline in customer service with perhaps one or 2 individuals but moreover I find the staff pleasant and accommodating and many times going out of their way to handle particular issues.
Please bear in mind that if they were not capable and expert surgeons and ODs the office would not be as busy as it can get. Along with that, the population in this area has grown exponentially so that there are many seeking health services and we all need to be patient and remember to breathe and use our manners. In particular, medical offices and providers of health care services (pharmacies etc.) are often overwhelmed and the stress levels are high among these workers.
Additionally I notice reviews that speak to events that may also have turned out such because of a patient's personal responsibility to follow up certain procedures by following protocols delivered by Docs. So I'm hesitant to blame or rely on reviews for health care.
My family has seen Dr Filer for over 10 years. The office always seems to be in a state of confusion. It has been a challenge to get convenient appointments and when you were in the office, there was always a long wait. We accepted these issues because we liked Dr. Filer. When we saw Dr. Filer about a year ago, there was confusion as to whether they were accepting our insurance. First we were told no, then yes, so I didn't think we had a problem. When I called today to make an appointment I was again told they didn't take our insurance. I asked for Dr Filer to call me back so I could get referred to a new Ophthalmologist since my husband has extenuating medical eye issues. I asked specifically to speak to Dr Filer. As expected, an assistant called back, with a referral. She had no idea if this new doctor could treat my husbands condition or not. It's unfortunate when after 10 years a Dr. can't be bothered returning a phone call.
It is the worst eye doctor office I have been.
1. Inefficient.
Very long time waiting time even if I made an appointment. For my case, I spent around 1 hours there with more than 50 minutes waiting from this time to other rooms. you feel the office has a lot of assistants without speeding up the process.
2. Office Manager is rude and poor customer serice
She (Chris Walsh) is rude and not helpful to customers/patients. She should be fired in my opinion.
3. Poor service and capability for diagnosis, care and cure
Do not provide good checking and let patient feel better after checking. For my case, my eyes do not feel good before I saw Dr. Michael K. Macdonald. After 5 minutes checking and simply scanned, he said there is no problem with my eyes and I was not given any treatment and prescribed medicine.
4. Greedy charge
I was astonished by the bill after that. They billed me $335 for less than 10 minutes service in total plus insurance charge!
Beware of hidden charges!! Especially if you are a new patient. Apparently, they have to do the "full checkup", which entails additional $300 that the insurance won't pay for! And!! They won't tell you, that they do it. No transparency in the bill. Never had this type of experience. And the lady on the phone was extremely mean and rude when I ask for explanation.
The front office staff is rude, never smiles, seems unhappy working there. Whenever you ask a question, they act as if you're bothering them and unhappily move to get what you need. The back office staff and the doctors are pleasant.
After having cataracts surgery in both eyes at age 50. I lost my job as an EEG tech. My peripheral vision was not correct after surgery. My vision was blurry. I strongly do not recommend this facility to anyone.
