I love Ventura Optometric, it's doctors and staff. Ever since my childhood Optometrist retired, about 5 or 6 yrs ago is when I began coming here. The doctor's explain everything and even how the vision changes as we age, I have gotten to that point. Unfortunately, I don't have vision insurance but the manager has given me a good discount each time. One just needs to ask. I tend to upgrade my glasses and schedule my yearly exam during November, since it is during this time that they have their annual patient appreciation sale. During their sale, I get my new eye prescription of lens and frames at a discounted price. I have also been luckily of winning something each year for the past three years, a pair of Raybans, a pair of Oakleys and recently a bottle of wine. Great treatment overall. My whole family comes here, my mother, husband and my 2 kids.
I've been with optometrist for about 8 years and The doctors are great! Amazing! Very knowledgeable and wonderful at their profession! The staff is not. They do not answer the phones, return phones calls and are snippy and honestly a bit rude. So because of the terrible front desk staff I had to leave this clinic. And Would not recommend them.
Outstanding place for optometric services. The front desk and office staff are friendly and efficient. So efficient that an appointment isn't necessary when you go to have your glasses fitted when they are ready for pick up. And they have a ginormous selection of frames here. Probably about a thousand.
The waiting room is large and airy. There are magazines for people without cellphones to entertain themselves. There is also a small children's play area, if you are blessed with rugrats.
Great location, easy to access by public transportation. And really, public transportation is the way to go, if you ask me, because the parking lot for this place is kinda ridiculous. Very difficult parking lot in which to maneuver.
Sorry for that last awkward sentence, but TBF I'm kinda low key afraid my Fifth Grade teacher would rise from the grave and strike me down for ending a sentence with a preposition.
The process was easy, but my wife and I were both convinced, if not persuaded, to get "progressive" lenses for a higher price than a fixed lens. Now we barely use them because they simply do not work as described and while they will redo them it's frustrating that we were basically sold this as the best way to go vs. a simple dedicated, cheaper lens. I also bought a narrow pair of glasses and no one mentioned that the progression would be so tight that the world would become a warped mess with a millimeter difference in my head posture. Be warned. I never had this problem before.
So, from what i know, i can get inexpensive glasses from them, which is why i went to try my eye exam here. Dr. klein took care of me, and she was very helpful in explaining about my exam. This is the biggest optical place I've ever been to. They have lots of frames you can choose. What i dont like is the part where the staff didn't give me a chance to go around the displays to try on which style i want. Instead, she went and picked for herself a few frames like 4 to 5 styles and had me pick which one i like. I wanted to say something, but i assumed thats how they wanted when picking the selections. I did not like how it went, but i ended up paying $100 more than what my insurance is covered.
Wow, the doctors there are amazing, giving super detailed eye exams. The staff is great too, always so welcoming. For new patients, get there a few minutes early to fill out paperwork. And definitely dilate your eyes--it gives them a complete view for disease checks. Their glasses selection is fantastic! Tell your optician exactly what you want in your lenses, and make sure you understand your insurance coverage.
$444 fee for an exam:
I called and made an appointment - I asked the total price w/out insurance and was told $278 (because I am a current patient).
I arrive today at the appointment and was told it that was not correct, and the fee could be up to $444 and they cannot confirm until after the exam depending on the findings.
That is not how to conduct business in a way that has integrity and transparency. I should have been told this on the phone before taking time off work.
I went straight to Target and was charged $179.
Ventura Optometric Vision Care - when people ask, they have a right to rely on the information on charges before deciding to book with you. You have lost my custom.
I found this place in the Fall of 2023. I was looking for a place and on yelp there was this great review about Ventura Optometric. I have Medi-Cal and of course wanted to find a great place that takes it!
The last time I used my Medi-Cal was December 2019 at a different place where my eye exam was covered but the selection of glasses was like 3...so back then I got the eye exam but didn't get glasses which is pointless.
THUS I WAS LOOKING FOR A PLACE LIKE VENTURA OPTOMETRIC! Where I was given a good selection for my needs! The assistants/techs who help you beforehand are also very helpful, patient, and kind. The assistant/tech did some of the tests before I met Dr.Dea. I had no idea that my right eye could not see what my left eye could! I got a thorough exam at this place and all staff including Dr. Kristina Dea took the time that was necessary with me. Dr.Dea let me know and explained astigmatism and that that was what was happening in my right eye. I've dealt with astigmatism for years and have had eye exams but never been diagnosed or helped. Thus this was a blessing! Finally I sat down with I believe Laura who helped me pick out frames, work within Medi-Cal, answer my questions, and let me know my options. She was very patient and helpful with picking out frames that fit me. I have high cheek bones so not every pair is the right fit. Also, I want something long lasting and that goes with everything versus needing too many glasses. Lastly, my glasses NEED ANTI GLARE FOR ME TO DRIVE SAFELY! Laura was helpful in letting me know what Medi-Cal covers and how it works. They don't let you add on things like antiglare because they have their own lab and at this time their lab doesn't do it. Fortunately when I had my appointment in January 2024 Laura said we can do a no insurance deal of $214 where you can get a pair of glasses with the add ons like anti glare that you need. I had brought in an older pair of glasses to see if reusing the frame and getting new lenses would be cost effective for me which Laura also did the run down with me. Thus we went through all the options and cost in calm and I went with the our Medi-Cal covers and the $214 for new glasses as I had a $200 health allowance from my AmeriCorps contract. The office was also helpful in providing an itemized receipt so I could submit to my health allowance and be reimbursed for my glasses. It has been awesome that I can now see! It's been about 5 years without being able to use my old glasses as they were scratched beyond belief and dealing with low income.
I will happily be using this office for my eye vision needs and have been telling friends and family! It's rare to find people who are kind, patient, considerate, and will take the time with you to help you through your needs. I deeply appreciate the help from this office and the ladies who just were so joyful and giving their joy when I came in. Again, that's rare because we all deal with stress and life problems. Additionally, there is a lot going on in offices - accounting, inventory, machines to do tests, employees, the knowledge you needed to be in your position, the building, etc.
So thank you for the great experience Ventura Optometric!
