I've been going to this location on and off since at least 2018. I returned last year when my OD at Costco was on leave. I signed up for the 3 year Eyecare Club as the employee stated that there was a discount for contacts and it included 3 yearly exams for FREE. Unfortunately, the Eyecare Club is a complete scam and the employees and doctor are only employed to up sell. I've been purchasing contracts through Costco as they are $30 cheaper per box even after the "discount" with the Eyecare Club. After being pushed around to 3 different employees when I arrived at my appointment, I was told in the first exam room that I had to have my eyes dilated or pay an additional fee for a photo with their machine. I explained that I was not told that I would need dilation, I had not been required to have dilation at previous exams, was alone and was not comfortable driving after dilation. I was then told that in order to even speak with the doctor, I would be required to have dilation or pay the additional fee. When I refused both options and requested to see the doctor, the assistant manager Tammy W. quite rudely stated she was cancelling my appointment and escorted me to the front of the store where she wanted to further discuss in front of other patients this issue instead of calmly handling the issue in the exam room. I requested twice to be given my medical records and to speak with the doctor. I finally walked to the rear waiting room where the doctor was and asked if she would require the up sell fee in order to see me as a patient. Dr. Stephanie Negron stated yes, that would be a requirement. As I was speaking with the doctor the assistant manager Tammy threatened to call the cops because I was not speaking with the doctor through her. Tammy W. apparently owns America's Best as she states her supervisor Evelyn was no longer with the company and there was no supervisor other than her that I would be able to speak with about the issue. She did finally provide an 800 number when pressed and after a third request provided SOME of my medical records. I highly recommend you stay away from America's Best and their Eyecare Club as it is a scam and the eye exam's are NOT free. Stephanie Negron should be ashamed of herself for not speaking with her patients without additional up sell exams. I recommend Costco optical if you have the option. They have ONE doctor that handles the entire transaction and exam and are way cheaper. America's Best had 3 different employee's handle my file and that didn't even include the doctor. I can only say that it looks like it is a good thing my appointment was cancelled as the review 2 hours before mine states that doctor Stephanie Negron refused to clean the machines used in office. The employees are only there to up sell, once they find out you are there only for an exam they are extremely rude and confrontational. The only deduction I can make is that they work purely on commission.
I am writing to share my experience at this America's Best location, which was disappointing due to hygiene and professionalism concerns.
The doctor I saw was Stephanie Negron. I spoke with the manager Donelle about my concerns and he was helpful, but he also explained that he is not her manager.
While she appeared knowledgeable and capable in performing her job, there were serious issues with cleanliness and attitude that need to be addressed. The slit lamp used during my exam had visible residue from a previous patient, including hair and oil, which should never occur in a medical setting. I should not have been placed in a position where I felt the need to clean equipment myself after another patient.
When I asked Stephanie for the equipment to be properly cleaned, I was told that no disinfecting wipes were available and that even if they were, she would not provide them to patients. The slit lamp was briefly wiped with a tiny alcohol prep pad, which I did not feel was sufficient. As a result, I went to my car to retrieve my own wipes to clean both the equipment and my face.
As she was wiping with the tiny pads and after, the doctor continued to deny that the equipment was unclean, which was frustrating and dismissive. Additionally, after I confirmed that I have previously worn contact lenses, she later proceeded to explain how to wear them as if I had not, which added to the overall lack of attentiveness and some type of cognitive issues.
I remained calm and respectful throughout the visit. Unfortunately, the doctor's attitude escalated unnecessarily, and the interaction became unprofessional. In a healthcare environment, concerns--especially those related to hygiene--should be acknowledged and handled appropriately.
At this stage in life, patients should not have to explain basic expectations regarding cleanliness and professionalism. There was no reason for the doctor to get out of character, and when you're wrong just accept by being aware, learn from it and move on.
I hope this feedback is taken seriously and used to improve patient care at this location.
America's Best located on Normandy Blvd near Walmart have unprofessional workers. They are ill mannered and liars. I had an exam October 6, 2025 and I'm still waiting for my color contacts. They advised 'after the fact' that ABB distributors have a history of back orders. They were paid by my insurance company as well as my out of pocket portion. I HAVE NO COLOR CONTACTS. It's been 2 months and I'm sick and tired of their run around. Calling daily doesn't help. One worker became rude because I said I'd call everyday until I receive my contacts. DO NOT OBTAIN SERVICES FROM THEM. I will rate them a ONE simply because their doors are open if you need to use the bathroom.
Everyone's experience is different!! But I will not be using this location any more , might not be going back to Americas Best as they claim. The whole appt went fine. Was able to get an eye exam and choose my frames. The issue with this location is the FALSE INFORMATION THEY PROVIDE. I HAVE CALLED THEM MULTIPLE TIMES TO SEE IF MY GLASSES WAS READY. Me and my boyfriend went tan got some new glasses we both got the same frames and brand. I went first on completing my order. But how does his glasses come back before mines when he had more work done on his lenses. His we're ready on Monday . I'm confused and every time I call I'm getting something different. 1 employee told me on Monday they willthere by Tuesday . Called to Tuesday employee tells they just completed in the lab. Called back Tuesday was told they just finished the they should be delivered today. Call back later not there, Calls Wednesday and the employee tells me they just got shipped out we don't have them yet.!!! Yall just told me this same shit y2days ago!! ? And it seems to be every time I called they had a damn attitude beside the older lady who helped me . But if I'm paying over $300 for some glasses you dang right ima call everyday !! Because I need them!!!! I just don't suggest this place at all! This is the 2nd this has happen to me !!
Just needed color contacts 1 day for Halloween it was last minute And was willing to pay for a box but i couldnt get it that day so I no thanks I said. Lady was confused, but then After mentioning they could help by giving a sample kit. I was happy I was going to buy a box of contacts for the help no issue. Then lady just straight up acted off and said no, took back what she said apparently Bad service on this situation but all the people are generally nice. A one off
Our niece was here visiting for 2 weeks & we brought her in for eye exam & glasses as she was having difficulty seeing restaurant marquees signs. They did a great job. We ordered 2 pair of glasses, 1 came in but the 2nd pair didn't. I spoke with Evelyn (Office Manager) & she jumped on the problem & got it all taken care of. She was sooo kind, even mailed 1st pair to our niece in Iowa & reordered 2nd pair. She was quick to make it right. I went in today to get 2nd pair of glasses & I got to meet Evelyn (Evie) in person. She is Amazing. So kind, friendly, professional & on the ball. Instead of ignoring me, she was great.
Evie is a true asset to America's Best Co.
Evie is why I give 5 stars.
I called America's best on Normandy to asked a few questions. Questions like "my insurance company says I have a 10 dollar co pay with contacts & lens exam; do I have to pay out of pocket or am I only paying 10 dollars.?" I believe her name was Mindy, because I called at 4:05 I guess she was overwhelmed with her job . She didn't feel like it was her JOB to answer questions regarding America's Best Policy or Procedures. She replied instantly " are you using insurance?" That reply immediately let me know she didn't listen to a single word. As I re explained why I call she then proceeded to act like it was out of her tax bracket to answer a question " you'll have to come in " lady the whole point is I am trying to come prepared for exam with money, ids and insurance cards. Honestly, as your first point of contact . Mindy will drive everyone away with her repulsive attitude. All because I called 55 mins before closing .
When I went in for my eye exam and purchased glasses and contacts everyone was very helpful and had great customer service which is why I am giving 2 stars. However, when I picked my glasses up I told the man that helped me that my eyes couldn't focus and the prescription seemed too strong. He told me there was barely a prescription and that it was not wrong. I explained to him that my last prescription was only for my stigmatism and he would not even consider what I was saying. I should have left the glasses and requested a refund, but he was the professional and assured me my eyes would adjust. So I spent around $700 and can't even wear the glasses without getting headaches and nausea.
