UF Health Ophthalmology - Jacksonville

My wife and I had early morning, back-to-back ophthalmology appointments with Dr. Alan Su at UF Health Deerwood Park. My wife's appointment was delayed, and she was not called by the optometry technician until 35 minutes after her scheduled time. When she inquired about the delay, the technician became visibly irritated and unprofessionally complained about "working alone" and "doing her job." The technician then falsely accused my wife of being disrespectful, refused to proceed with the examination, and abruptly canceled the appointment--lasting less than a minute--while directing her to leave. This unjust denial of care is deeply concerning and represents unacceptable, negligent behavior that puts patients at risk. Having previously received treatment at Bascom Eye Institute, I had hoped to continue quality care through UF Health. However, after this experience, I lost confidence in their professionalism and canceled my own appointment. The front office provided only a general customer service number and offered no meaningful resolution. While UF Health may have excellent physicians, the unprofessional conduct of its support staff severely undermines patient trust and quality of care. Fortunately, Jacksonville offers many reputable alternatives, and we will be transferring our care to a patient-centered facility such as Mayo Clinic or Baptist Eye Institute. 1/24/26 Update: The arbitrary and improper cancellation of my wife's appointment resulted in a significant diagnostic delay for a potential ocular malignancy, currently awaiting specialized evaluation by an oncological ophthalmologist.

Dr R Raman team saved my husband's vision. Thank you Dr Ruja and Dr Alexia. Reacting quick to our emergency. We felt safe and secure even being out of town when this happened. Top care. 5 Stars

Very unprofessional and unorganized place. The workers act like they just dont know what they are doing. Waste of peoples time

My daughter had an Ophthalmology appointment at 2 pm today, 12/11/23, that she had waited six weeks to attend. I drove her to the appointment and we were there on time. 45 minutes went by and when we asked how much longer it would be, the receptionist informed us that it would be at least 35-40 minutes longer. She said my daughter's appointment was with a resident and she said something about the resident's doing things on their own timeline. We told the receptionist that we couldn't stay because we had to be home for my granddaughter when she got off the bus. The receptionist said she could reschedule the appointment which would have kept my daughter waiting for another 5-6 weeks. This was a serious waste of my time because I took off work to drive my daughter to this appointment. I feel it's disrespectful for medical offices to expect patients to wait for this length of time. My recommendation is that if doctor's or resident's are running behind schedule, a courtesy call or a rescheduling call would be the respectful course of action. Up until this point, UF medical offices have been great, but we will not return to the Ophthalmology office.

I've had a rough time with Hospitals in my life, but the staff here are phenomenal and could not have been more accommodating. Though they say prepare to wait a couple of hours. I was in and out in less than one hour. The facility was very clean and the staff is very professional. Dr.Hunt ,with just a few questions, figured out immediately what I was suffering from. I will definitely return here if I have anymore issues.

I couldn't have been assigned to a better doc! Dr Hunt took great care of me, called to check on me after my surgery, and too the time to explain things in laymens language. His bedside manner is excellent and he is thorough

Ive had probably 30-40 appointments with Dr Grover and Dr Madow within the last 2 years due to diabetic retinopathy. Its never a truely pleasurable experience because, lets be honest, They are dealing with your loss of vision and the risks include more loss of vision. But every single time i go, its comforting and they are an amazing staff team, all the way from the registration team to the first years, Dr Michael is fantastic and helped me just yesterday with a PRP, which is bu far the most painful procedure ive had done so far. Injections arent even in the same realm of pain, But its necessary each time. Then the Tech, Shann is my tech and she is beyond fantastic in making sure everytime i visit everythings well covered to ensured no new damage that i havnt noticed. The entire team is amazing, and i can honestly say, at 25 years old i would probably be blind without them. So i say thankyou to each one of you. From Shann, to dr Hunt and Grover and madow, everyone there is fantastic and excels in their own field. The future is bright for each one of them.

I had my eye exam performed at UF Health Ophthalmology, a highly modern medical center, and found the staff welcoming and efficient. The exam was carry out by Dr Hunt, a thorough professional with traits like patience and outgoing good nature, who made the exam a comfortable and satisfying visit.
