The absolute worst and most non-professional. I was evaluated here for cataract surgery. After the evaluation I was told there is possibly a 3 month wait and to call periodically to see if there is an opening. I called weekly, then monrhly, and explaind I drove for a living, could only see out of the cataracted eye because I was blind in the other and would at least have a possible implant date. Each time I called I was told that they couldnt give an approximate date date, and more or less, that I wasn't exceptional and others have the same problem. Period. I waited over 3 months, called and was told one doctor left the practice and I had to wait another 3 months. Why didnt someone call me? At this point I was totally fed up, called my insurance company and requested another provider, and made an appointment. The next day I went to Envision to get my records. The office manager said, oh, we have a date for your surgery, in 3 weeks, I talked to your insurance co. a week ago, they didn't call you? I asked, why would they call me and not your office. The response was, well we tried to call you today. I asked if I could call my insurer and reverse the new appointment and have the surgery done at Envision. The office manager said I could try but she would have to cancel the surgery scheduled for 3 weeks and I would have to wait longer. Totally disgusted, I declined.

My 84-year-old father had a very traumatic experience at Envision Eye Specialists at 3920 Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota that resulted in permanent eyesight damage and a diagnosis of glaucoma. It was a full-blown medical malpractice experience - something we never imagined possible in this day and age! His surgeon, Dr Mauer, prescribed the wrong sedation, even though my dad informed the nurse during the pre-op interview that he was allergic to certain medicines, which made him agitated. As he started the surgery, the doctor failed to test whether sedation worked. Once my elderly father showed signs of agitation during the surgery, he stopped the operation halfway by pushing the cataract deep inside the eye and sent him home without as much as a pain relief prescription or a follow-up plan. As a result of this surgical damage to an otherwise healthy eye, my dad experienced weeks of sharp eye pain, headaches, and loss of vision. It took him eight weeks to get a surgery in another hospital to repair the damage inflicted by Dr Mauer. Worse, he never got as much as a follow-up call from Dr. Mauer! We are writing this review as a warning to other cataract patients. What happened to my dad is surely not an isolated case, as shown by the callousness of Dr Mauer and his staff.

I had an appointment scheduled here with Dr. Loher on April 9, 2025. When I arrived I was informed that Dr. Loher went to a different office for the day and I wouldn't be able to see her. I didn't receive any notice that she would not be there. I was then given the option to see Dr. Dean or reschedule with Dr. Loher. I chose a third alternative to find another doctor. BUT, my wasted afternoon driving there was not the worst. Today I received a notice from my insurance company that Dr. Dean filed an insurance claim. Another example of a gross lack of integrity by these "medical professionals" by trying to get paid for an appointment that never was schedule or took place. I imagine other readers of this review don't want to be taken for fools. I am sick of the rip off medical "professionals" that have zero integrity. So, you make the decision. I don't necessarily hold Dr. Loher accountable for this because I have heard really good things from her patients about her which is why I originally scheduled an appointment with her. Just be aware that this office uses bait and switch tactics that belie what this office does... and I bet not everyone looks at their insurance EOB's to catch them at this.

I would give zero stars if I could. They are awful, awful, AWFUL! They are liars and have terrible customer service skills. Mom had upper eyelid surgery. They wouldn't tell us a total price until AFTER the surgery (we used insurance instead of paying out of pocket) even though we asked them multiple times. They refused and said they can't tell us until after the surgery. WEIRD! I told my mom this is a red flag! Then they told us we HAVE TO purchase their kit for $95 which included a mask (that cost maybe $2), a pair of plastic glasses (maybe $10) prednisolone and ointment, that Dr Ross said cost them $200 but when we got home and goggled it, the ointment cost $13 online!!! They are scammers! When asked if we could not purchase the kit they told us WE HAD TO. And said we cannot use our insurance for any of it, even though our insurance covers ALL medications. We didn't use the face mask or eyeglasses and when asked if we could return it because it was completely useless, and we didn't use it they got nasty and would not return it. Then every subsequent appointment after, the front desk girl was clearly irritated and let us know. ANNND he did a terrible job on the stitches When it was time to remove them, mom left with several stitches still sticking out. Just seemed like they didn't really care about their patients and are only after getting money and moving onto the next one. My mom went to a different plastic surgeon to fix the bad job this place did. So do yourself a favor, and do not do business with this place. I tried to warm my mom from the beginning and now she wishes she would have listened. PS - AFTER we purchased the $95 kit, the nurse (the only person that seemed to care and have human decency) came in and told us that it might be easier and better if we just bought a pack of peas and put it on her eyes!

I have been under the care of the Envision Eye family for close to a year now and boy, personally being in the hospitality industry, I have never seen such high level of care and concern. I am so fortunate to be under the care of the Envision Eye staff. I have the pleasure during every appointment to see the two beautiful smiles of Alberta and Barbara. Being under the care of such a compassionate person, Dr. Ross, is such an amazing learning experience and true honor. Thanks for saving my Eye! Eye Love ya'll!!!! <3

Where do I begin? Patient #88 is not happy. Why? 1. Not once did any of the doctors explain to my why they needed my pre-lasik records, what was going to happen and that there might be a chance my vision would not be corrected. It actually took the only knowledgeable worker in the Ocala office (Tish) to get even a bit of an explanation. Still I guess bottom line is that I felt left in the literal dark. 2. Surgery itself. yeah, right, Patient #88 and a guy I had never met and who never talked to me in a town (Citra) I had never been in. I was treated like a number and never felt informed the way I should have been. When I tried to explain to the anesthesiologist' that I had allergies I was told - 'Oh no one has a problem with Versid'. Luckily it was true in this case. 3. My vision is actually worse now than it was when I began (October). Oh, they removed the cataract (I hope) and fixed my astigmatism, but when I went to get new glasses.Yes, I still need them. The tech said 'Oh this is unusual. Your prescription is actually worse. The only thing better is the astigmatism.' What?! 4. Then let's talk about the eye drops for post surgery. There were 3. One of which was a generic prednisolone acetate. It made me nauseous and dizzy. So I stopped using it after 2 days. Tish got me a fast appointment in the Crystal River office and my husband took me there because I had so much pressure/pain I wasn't driving. Doctor V changed the drops to Durasol. ok. (I did tell anyone who would listen that I had lots of allergies!) So we went back home and to the nearest Walgreens. With a Good Rx coupon the bill was still $212.00. Actual cost of the little tiny bottle would have been $256. At no time was I ever informed that the drops would be so costly! What if I didn't have a credit card to pay for them?! I freaked out and called the provider. They said if I had the doctor call they could cover it but it was a brand name and not formulary (the joys of Medicare) I should say here that it was really appreciated that Dr. Vergara called my prescription company right away and someday they will refund $112 of my cost and it would ONLY be $100 for the little bottle. Maybe I'll see that money by next July. ***sigh*** Ah, yes, Durasol. I was so allergic that for the 3+ weeks I had to take it starting at 4 times a day, I had to pair it with a Benedryl. I spent a month in a fog. Granted - some of it is because I am a Princess (Doctor actually said so) and sensitive to some medication. At NO point did anyone at Envision have a Plan B for folks who were sensitive to the drops. 5. I was not told until afterwards that I might have to have a 'little prescription'. I feel like they are/were not telling me everything. Guess I found out what some of that was when I went to get my glasses. So, would I recommend this place if you have to get Cataract Surgery? Not really. While there were a few good folks (Dr. V, Tish and the lady at the desk in Crystal River - sorry I have forgotten her name), I would say find someplace else. As for me if this is the only place my insurance will let me go to, I will wear an eye patch on the other eye before I do this again.
