I met With Dr. Roe. Three years ago I had my eye lens exchanged. They call it cataract surgery. He said I needed to clean them up as they were cloudy. I did one eye and there was a problem. There was a blur in my vision that was floating that was not there before. IT WAS NOT A FLOATER. I called The office and they said to just tell the doc when I came back to do my second eye. So I did just that. Dr. Roe was angry, offended, and rude as if I was accusing him of something. I said I was not doing the second eye until the first I was corrected. He went on to say he's done thousands of these procedures and has never had a problem. Then he said I'd have to book another appointment to look into the problem.
So I did book another appointment with another doctor outside of this practice. He confirmed there was something floating in my eye, that is not a regular floater, from Dr. Roe procedure. It was an easy fix, and my eye is fine now.
This guy needs to learn some bedside manner and also understand who pays his bills. His customers do!
This was the worst eye exam I have ever had. The front desk staff was unfriendly. The technician hadn't reviewed the history I was asked to complete before I arrived. Asked me the same questions over again. I told her that the history was already completed and she could review the records. I was told that she never reviews records.
I then saw Dr. Sacksteder for my examination. Nothing was in focus. I couldn't see anything clearly. Then he handed me a contact lens prescription that was almost identical to my old prescription (not seeing clearly with the old lenses). It was pretty obvious that he did not want to be examining me. Really shoddy work. I was charged for a level 1 contact lens exam. I believe I was upcoded so that they could collect more money from me. They never asked to see my current glasses. I could go on and on. It was a very bad experience.
I went to another local optometrist. Difference between night and day. He took time with me and I now have a new contact lens prescription and I can see very well as well as new glasses.
I can't say enough good things about The Eye Institute of West Florida and Dr. Ryan Sacksteder. They were absolutely amazing about fitting my son in for an appointment when his eyelashes became trapped under his eyelid, which was very painful for him. My son is naturally anxious and fearful about medical visits, but Dr. Sacksteder was incredibly patient, gentle, and reassuring and fixed the problem.
Even though they were doing us a favor by fitting us in, all of the staff we encountered were kind, friendly, and understanding. The care and compassion they showed truly went above and beyond. We are so grateful for their help and would highly recommend Dr. Sacksteder and the Eye Institute of West Florida to anyone in need of excellent eye care.
Staff is very unprofessional!
1- Check in- sign a black pad 3 times. And they won't share the information you are signing. They just say they can see your signature?
2-Waiting room/rooms- Nurse/techs? Yell a name and and wonder around looking for a patient.
3- Nurse took me from one room, did nothing. Then another room, checked eyes with eye chart, Took out contacts she proceeded to give me eye drops And dilate my eyes. Took me back to the other room and proceeded to do another eye test, door open to the hall and another employee sitting 2feet away from me in the same room eating her lunch and watching a video on her phone. Very distracting and VERY Unprofessional that you would have a patient in a room like that.
4- Back in another waiting room for the Dr. S (No contacts in and dilated eyes) Dr. S comes calls my name and rushes down the hall. He we nice, but in a big rush. Middle of his exam, another nurse knocks on the door to disturb the exam. Finished up, and he told me to go to the end of the hall with his files in my hand? He had no concern about me having no contacts in, eyes dilated, and no glasses to see with.
5- With all that said in a nutshell, I made it up to the desk. Gave the receptionist his paperwork on me. I then had to ask where I could put my contacts back in? I was just pointed back down the hall where I came from, to a sink next to a nurse station with no assistants offered.
6- When I got there, I could not see any saline or a mirror to put my contacts back in. With no compassion from the other nurses right next to me on their computer complaining about how the office works and eating their container of dry cereal? (This is the 2nd time in my appointment within 45 minutes. I saw 2 employees eating snacks, lunch, or any food on the floor?)
7- Had to go back to the receptionist and ask her for assistance. She took me back to the same area, She couldn't even find the saline, and she asked another nurse that was very rude and said, "Here it is," and slapped it down and walked away.
Overall, it was a very horrible experience!
I was never asked if I had a ride home, offed any sunglasses after they dilated my eyes, or any concern about my experience/condition.
I usually go see Dr Cothran twice a year, I'm impress how gentle and welcoming they are!
The Institute has top technology, things have changed in the last 5 years and they are on top!
Before, I was diagnosed with potencial glaucoma for 30 years, Dr Cothran found this treat didn't exist, I'm so glad to know any treatment isn't necessary!
My gratitude to the Eye Institute!
Always a great experience at the St. Petersburg location. Dr. Roberts is always so kind and professional. The entire staff is always very pleasant and accommodating.
Talk about a mill!! Ugh. Took my mother here. Man at the counter was being charged for something Medicare doesn't cover, but I can bet he wasn't asked and advised before performing service.
Medical assistant VIOLATED my mother's HIPAA by yelling out her full name from the hallway instead of having the decency, manner and legal professionalism to walk 5 steps to the waiting room and call for her LEGALLY and appropriately. We sat for about 15 minutes and could tell this is a "herding cows" money machine mill where you're just a number - and decided to leave..
Always read reviews and pick a place that is not a big practice, "institute", etc. Those type of places have lost the art of customer service and true patient care many years ago!
Excellent compassionate care! Thanks Daniella you made Eric feel so comfortable with the eye drops! This helped get a great exam and we appreciate your warmth and level of professionalism. Our Dr. is also so caring and knowledgeable. We are looking forward to his surgery.
