As a family, we want to express our profound gratitude to Dr. Shapiro. His exceptional care of our son has changed the trajectory of his life. First and foremost, he restored his sight in his right eye. Second, through our three-year journey with him and counting, he has opened a world of thought and possibilities our son could not have realized when we first learned of his diagnosis. Dr. Shapiro's clarity, concern, and compassion about his condition cultivated an indelible trust. Our son does not mind going to his follow-up appointments because Dr. Shapiro treats him as a young adult who can absorb pertinent information. Dr. Shapiro's humility and honesty nurtured a confidence in him to ask important questions regarding the future of his health. When we first ended up in Dr. Shapiro's office, we felt we were in expert hands; never could we have anticipated that his holistic approach would go beyond restoring his vision, and actual expand his mind. Our experience with Dr. Shapiro and his staff has been seamless and wonderful from day one. We are forever grateful.

Dr Shapiro is Very Knowledgeable and is a Great Doctor. You can tell he Cares Very Much about his Patients by the way he talks to them and by the way he takes his time to explain to them, about their situation. He seems to care Very Much and always strives to make the Best Decisions on behave of his patients. I would definitely Recommend him.

Dr. Shapiro is a great and amazing person. I was having trouble with my right eye. I was sent to him as an emergency patient and was in shock that he squeezed me in on the same day. He helped me alot and thanks to him my right eye is doing great!!!! He's a good one and explains everything very good. I would really recommend him to others.

The one positive was the reception area and first technician I saw in the office were good. As for the service itself, I give a zero. I had an appointment for 9:30 this morning and at 11:30 I got up and left because I had not been seen yet by Dr. Shapiro. I don't know how you can have people wait 2 hours an expect people to be happy. What is the point in having an appointment with a doctor if your appointment time isn't being met. Find another doctor who respects their patients time.

Dr. Shapiro has been treating my son Jeremy for about 14 years. He is the only doctor I trust with my son's eye care. The office staff is friendly and helpful. The techs are nice and they are good at following Dr. Shapiro's special notes. Rita is fantastic.

Dr. Michael Shapiro is a kind, compassionate and humble man with immense medical & surgical skill. His prudent but aggressive care of my father's severely infected eyes and damaged retinas gave dad normal 20/20 & 20/25 vision from an initial bilateral blindness. Dr. Shapiro's genuine interest in his patients & patients families is remarkable. And, his medical assessment & plans for treatment is outstanding. His communication with his patients is excellent. Dr. Shapiro fairly prioritizes his office time when emergent or urgent patient conditions exists -- which is frequent. The longstanding patients are generally understanding of office delays, remembering when their eye condition(s) was Dr. Shapiro's highest priority. Due to the highest regard for which he is held by his fellow physicians, Dr. Shapiro, seemingly, virtually always has out-of-state families, often infant & children patients -- heartbreaking difficulties so early in life. Those I've spoken with express much gratitude for Dr. Shapiro's care. I will ALWAYS be GRATEFUL for the gift of great vision and a normal life that Dr. Shapiro has given my dad. God bless him.

Patrick Brady -- Rockford, IL Dr. Michael Shapiro is a Doctor's Doctor, the 'real deal'. He humbly & masterfully healed my eyes -- taking my vision from nil -legally blind- to 20/20 & 20/25. I had seven eye surgeries over 1-1/2 years. He saved my life -- my life before blindness. I traveled 1-1/2 hours each way for 20 visits. Dr. Shapiro explained my condition to me very well. He never promised me any degree of success but his very personal interest in me, not just my eye disease, gave me great confidence that God had blessed me immensely. Dr. Shapiro works tirelessly for me and all of his patients. Early on, he successfully battled my insurance provider for an expensive but necessary anti-fungal medication. Dr. Shapiro often sees patients on an extremely urgent to emergent basis -- as was the case for my first visit. He saw me quickly and poured a lot of his time into that first visit -- evaluation, explanation and treatment plan, including immediate surgery. I'm sure other patients had their visit delayed due to my urgent need. I never forgot about the urgent needs of other patients when I waited -patiently- during my many followup visits. On rapidly appreciating Dr. Shapiro's compassion and unique professional skill, it is easy to graciously wait. Due to Dr. Shapiro's unique surgical skills & tremendous medical acumen, his waiting room was routinely filled with a very diverse group of patients - infant babies, children and elderly patients. It was common to meet patients from out-of-state. On my first visit, I met families of child patients from South Bend, IN and Iowa. I had many opportunities to speak with other patients and parents of patients. All were extremely grateful for Dr. Shapiro's medical care. Dr. Shapiro's staff was always very helpful and kind to me. Many of them remembered me and my name on return visits, from the beginning. I found staff outgoing & friendly. At 63 years old, Dr. Shapiro is the most extraordinary Doctor that I have ever known -- and, I have known many doctors. And, clearly, Dr. Shapiro is one of the finest people I have ever know. Finally, as is often said, "Dr. Shapiro is the BEST in his field." May God continue to bless Dr. Shapiro!
