I would not recommend this doctor. My son had a blood spot in his eye, and after a brief 15-minute exam without using any equipment, she couldn't provide a diagnosis but still charged me $235 out of pocket after insurance.

I had cataract surgery at U of I and had difficulties healing. U of I was such a long drive for weekly exams so I switched to an optometrist that was in my area. Dr. Mata was knowledgeable but seemed unconcerned with my growing frustration at the lack of healing. When I called their help line on the weekend because of pain and a broken blood vessel the doctor on call acted as if I was bothering him with my concerns. When my endocrinologist tried contacting Dr. Mata to discuss possible underlying issues that could be causing problems Dr. Mata never returned her calls. I developed irits which can cause blindness. I finally changed doctors because my eye was getting progressively worse. I , now go to Dr. Brian Hurst and my vision is improving. It was 20/70 when I left Mata, after a month with Dr. Hurst its 20/25. I'd say never go to an eye glass place for serious issues. I think they just want to sell glasses and not be bothered with issues that require real medical treatment.
