I have been coming to this office for a few years. The staff has always been friendly talking to me and making me feel welcomed. They were amazing at helping me pick out frames that fit my face and style nicely while working with my prescription. As well as explaining yo me exactly how and why they are charging me to work with my insurance and to get me the best deal possible.
The doctor was awesome as she did everything right and all was going well until I had to sit with Rick. When I made the staff aware that my insurance covers the eye exam with a low co payment, the entire office seemed to get an attitude. Called my insurance advocate, on speaker phone, and these people acted like I was trying to get over on them? They called my insurance and was told what it covers and how much. Rick has the worst attitude in the place! Basically refused to sell me anything! At one point i felt like he was judging me based off of my look? Which is interesting because I saw another review posted where they felt this same way. Please don't waste your time with these people. Do yourself a favor and check your health insurance plan as many plans cover one eye exam per year. Some at no cost or others with a low deductible. Don't let people like this, have you over paying.
Best experience my wife and I have ever had at an eye doctor's office. They have one of the best frame selections I've seen. Their staff is very knowledgeable and everyone at their office spent a lot of time with both of us addressing our questions (and we had a lot). I would recommend this office to anyone looking to find an office that will take care of you.
Update from 7/21/23 - I saw all the negative reviews and thought I'd share my most recent experience. A few months ago, my daughter's glasses broke in an unfixable way. My daughter was completely devastated because she didn't have a backup pair nor any contacts. We called VCA and they had us come in right away to take a look. They not only got her in contacts & new glasses ordered, but Rick even was able to work some magic and temporarily fix her glasses using old frame parts that they had on hand! On top of that, they even expressed her frames and they were in the next week.
Fast forward to me and my wife - Our experience was not so dire, but both of us had a wonderful experience. The doctor is awesome as always and the staff is super friendly and helpful.
Do yourself a favor and give this place a chance. People tend to post reviews when they want to vent. VCA doesn't ask customers for reviews on Google like most places so that's why you don't see a ton of reviews
The following is my retelling of the worst experience I've ever had visiting an optometrist and ordering contacts and glasses. For context, I'm a college student and my campus is hours away from Wheaton. January 4th of 2022, I booked an appointment at this location. I picked out a pair of glasses I liked and ordered a year supply of contacts. Everything seemed to go well. The optometrist explicitly told me that, if I had any issues with my glasses, I could call the office and let them know and they'd fix the issue without me needing to physically come in. This is because he was unsure of whether or not to keep my prescription as is or raise it very slightly. The prescription he had given me raised the power so, if I called in with an issue, he said he would tell them to reduce the power to what it originally was. Both he and the office knew I was an out of state college student and knew that, if an issue arose and I needed to physically come in, it would take months for me to find the money and time to do so.
And then I got the glasses. First off, they were not the frames I selected. Not even close. They looked terrible and unflattering on my face. And when I tried on the glasses, my head started to hurt and my eyes felt terribly strained. It was clear that the prescription was just too strong for me. I sent them back to my parents and told them about the issue, and they came to the center to speak to the front desk about the issue. They said they wouldn't do anything unless I came in. My parents persisted, relating the whole "we can fix your glasses without you coming in!" conversation, but they really didn't care. So I had to wait for months without my glasses until I had a break and could come into the office. It took about six months, due to my financial situation. I had to go six months without my glasses.
So, flash forward to when I finally came into the center. My older brother came in with me. (Mind you, we are non-white and it's very obvious we are non-white. I hope this wasn't race-related, but you can never tell nowadays.) My brother walked up to the front desk lady and said, "Good afternoon." She looked at him with this odd expression and blatantly ignored him. He repeated himself but she ignored him again. Makes me wonder - does the front desk usually do this with potential patients?
I inquired about the glasses - and the lady at the front desk just simply looked at me like I was crazy. Another lady sitting at the front desk had to step in and help, and a gentleman from the back came over to work with me on the issue. I was able to see another optometrist at the center that day, who fixed the issue with the prescription - the same way the previous optometrist said he could without me coming in. Funny how that works.
I told the gentleman who was assisting me that the frames I selected were not the ones I was given. At first, he looked like he was going to tell me he could help me on that, but the second lady that had jumped in to assist me came forward and was able to pick out the frames I did select the first time. I genuinely couldn't believe it - she was able to pick them out, even though six months had passed since she had worked with me when I ordered the contacts and glasses. Not sure if that means she knowingly made an error when filling out the order for the glasses, but I was really happy she came forward. When I got my glasses back the second time, the prescription and frames were right.
Now, I'm thankful they helped me out - but I still don't recommend anyone work with this center. I could have done without the added irritation and stress of not having my glasses while studying in the spring semester. I think most people could do without the added stress in their life. Glasses and contacts are incredibly expensive so, if you plan on buying these items - which you'll either be putting on your eyes or on your face, mind you - go somewhere that will get it right the first time. And hopefully the center you pick doesn't have front desk workers who are rude to potential customers.
Something fishy with billing going on over here. So my first impression walking in was that is was odd that they made me wear a mask, no big deal, but then the person behind the desk doesn't wear a mask. Ok, a little bit of a double standard I think, but I keep the mask on. They then insisted on having my medical insurance card in addition to my vision insurance card. Hmmm, that's weird. That's like giving my vision insurance to my regular doctor. It smelled wrong, so I asked and their reasoning is they have to bill medical if they find anything medically wrong with me. That didn't smell right. Not needing any more pain with my regular insurance, I left. I felt there are many other places wanting brick and mortar business and not insisting on a medical insurance card to see me. Been going there for 5 years too. That's too bad.
Man... if I could give them more stars I would. I've been a client of VCA for over 5 years. Always happy with their service (eye exams and glasses). But today they reached another level. Background: I took the VCA prescription gave me and got some glasses at an on-line store... well, my new puppy had the brilliant idea of using my prescription eyeglasses as a chew toy last night. Really did a number on them. Since I have an important meeting tomorrow, I went to VCA for help... thinking it was a bit of a stretch since A) I didn't buy them there, and B) One of the temples and one of the nose pieces were all chewed up. I got to VCA and was greeted by Samantha... she was super nice and understanding (had a good laugh about my puppy). Looked me up, saw that I was a client and said "well, lets see if our technician can help"... In comes Coleen. Takes a look at the glasses and says "you didn't get them from here, right?" I said no (thinking that I was going to get the "then I cant work on them") So Coleen says, "OK, I'll do my best". Less then 10 minutes later, Coleen comes out... She straightened out the temple best she could, replaced the padding on it and replaced the nose pieces. So my glasses look like new. I cant recommend them highly enough for their customer service and great selection... you all got a client for life.
Service is good but not happy with the frames I purchased and there is no return policy! I understand they are expensive but it is hard to tell when trying them on if they are going to look good(seeing you can't see well). I am very disappointed and will probably go to Lenscrafters or someplace else next time!
Sue and John were extremely helpful in finding a pair of frames that fit my face perfectly! Dr. Danko was extremely friendly and made my experience very easy. I would highly recommend coming here for fast, friendly service!
