Dr. Vekovoius and his staff is a big family that works together to make you feel special at all times when I have any kind of office visits or procedures done. Chelsea, Shaffer, and Laurie were on duty when I got my stitches pulled out of my eye. They were so thorough, in doing their jobs. Chelsea exam of my eyes before I saw Shaffer were pleasant, professional, and made me feel vey comfortable. On other office visits I have had, I'll just rate her a 10. Shaffer pulled my stitches, he didn't know I had a fear that it was going to hurt. When he started, , I was amazed I never felt anything. I complimented him. I really was well pleased. Shaffer is rated a 10 also because he does his job very well on any visits I have, and he is handsome. My eye was running a little water, and he told me it takes time to heal. He told me he would let Dr. Vekovoius know. Throughout my procedure done on the surgery of my eye, Laurie made it happen during the winter storm to accommodate me to be safe while driving from home to have my procedure done. All labs, post opt doctor appointments were scheduled with me being informed of all procedures I had to do. She called to check on me, and made sure I followed the instructions from Dr.Vekovoius. His office staff is rated with five stars, because I am always pleased on every doctor visit.
Dr. Vekovius saved my eyesight -- here's my story.
While pregnant in 2021 with our second baby, my Hashimoto's thyroid autoimmune disease went haywire and flipped into a new autoimmune disorder called Grave's Disease. I later learned I had antibodies for both conditions, a rare situation my doctor had never seen.
I was very sick before I even knew it, and with God's intervention, I was connected to excellent care to begin calming my thyroid and protecting our baby.
Four months after giving birth, my autoimmune disease continued to aggressively attack my thyroid. That triggered a third condition -- Thyroid Eye Disease (TED). TED is painful and causes uncontrollable inflammation behind the eyes. Muscles start squeezing the optic nerve, vision blurs, eyes burn, protrude, double vision occurs, makeup won't apply right, contacts become impossible, and glasses are all you can wear.
God again moved in seemingly impossible ways. There were no waitlists, and by chance, Dr. Vekovius -- the leading expert in thyroid eye disease -- was right here in Shreveport, LA. Even more, the only drug proven to stop and reverse TED had just been FDA-approved two years before. Without it, I likely would have needed orbital surgery to save my vision.
For two long years it was painful, humiliating, frightening, and full of trial and error. Insurance required hoops before approving treatment, which meant months of waiting with no relief. Through it all, Dr. Vekovius stood by me. He knew exactly what to do, when to do it, and how to manage insurance approvals. While it felt like forever from my first visit to my first infusion, others wait even longer just for a diagnosis.
The treatment came as a series of eight at-home IV infusions that made my hair stop growing and left my nails like tissue paper. I lost about 60% of my hair in a matter of weeks.
During all of this, I didn't know if or when healing would come. At night, after giving our baby his bedtime bottle, I'd open my Bible app and read in dark mode -- just offering what I had. God met me there with peace that surpassed all understanding. I learned I was more than my eyes, more than my circumstances, and that He had a purpose for me no matter what.
God chose to heal me. He restored my vision -- and I can wear contacts again, something I didn't think I'd ever do. Not wearing contacts had felt like a loss far bigger than lenses.
I did have a terrifying few days after my last infusion when I feared the disease had returned. For three days I was in pain and afraid everything was lost. Then on a Sunday before a specialist appointment, we sang a song about being "made for more." I felt peace again. The next day all tests were normal. It was only a scare, but the peace lasted.
Since then, I've had other scares, because that's the reality with Thyroid Eye Disease. My "new normal" includes 3- to 6-month check-ups with Dr. Vekovius, who watches my progress and stands ready if the disease reactivates. His confidence, expertise, and care have made all the difference.
I am forever grateful for him.
UPDATE: Dr. Vekovius called me personally and had no idea what had happened. I was really impressed and he is making corrections to staff and missed appointment. Def recommend. He's a great doctor and wants to do right by his patients.
I had an appointment this morning 10/13/25 at 0845 with Dr. Vekovius. I got there at 0830 and checked in, went to the bathroom, and sat down. 0930 rolls around so I go to the bathroom again. At 1000 I decide to see what is going on. I'm told I was marked as a no show. The receptionist looked and said at 0915 I was marked as a no show. I said how, because I was sitting in the waiting from since 0830.
I want to say, Dr. Vekovius is a really good doctor, but his staff needs a new system because if a patient can be sitting in the waiting room and never hear themselves called, that's an issue. I wasted over 2 hours. When I did check in to see what was going on, they checked me back in and said it would be shortly. 45-50 mins later I go back up to the front and they tell me I'm moved to the back of the line. In what world does a place operate like that? Mess up and then move the patient to the back? I guess I mostly feel like my time was very disrespected and that alone makes it very hard for me to want to go back and get the treatment I need. Attached is my Google maps timeline of when I got there. It literally says 0826. I left at 1055.

New patient, I had reoccurring eye infections that I need a big infection removed. He did not waste time , in minutes the infection removed and I was on my way. You might have to wait a minute to see him, but do you really want to see a specialist that is not him super high demand in Shreveport ? I would rather wait a few minutes to see the best Shreveport offers.
Horrible, not only did he not introduce himself as he entered the room, he failed to address me until he reviewed the computer. Then he looked at my eye, then he started to discuss the issue about office time off during the Christmas office close sure on the 24th and 26th. Total office time with me was maybe all of 6 minutes. And without any information about my eye he proceeded to book me into outpatient surgery and he walked out of the room. I am a medical professional and I have a medical professional and licensed, since 1972 .
He is so arrogant that he can treat patients like this since he is the only person in Shreveport to do his Specialty
Just want to add my husband, Ronald Matlock, has received EXCELLENT CARE from Dr. Vekovious He goes the extra mile to serve his patients! The staff is professional and caring at the same timeHighly recommend for eye health needs!!
If it weren't for seeing Dr. V I would have lost my vision permanently. I was misdiagnosed with arthritis by 3 different doctors. I was referred to Dr. V and had a biopsy and it came back positive for giant cell arteritis. It's been a year since I was diagnosed and although I will still need infusions for the rest of my life I'm greatful that I can still see.
Dr Verkovious is an excellent Doctor. He is very through and provides quick assessment and very accurate diagnosis for each patient. He did outstanding eye surgery that totally corrected my complex eye problem. He is very professional and I highly recommend him for any patient having eye problems.
