I had previously been to New England Eye Center for an eye appointment when I first moved to Boston and everything was quite smooth. For my next annual visit however, I was informed that my eye doctor was changing practices in the weeks to come. I didn't think anything of it and went through the normal eye appointment process. My insurance hadn't changed and I just needed a routine eye exam. At no point had New England Eye Center alert me or run my insurance to let me know they had changed what was in network or that my insurance provider was suddenly out of network. Instead, they chose to ignore it, not caring for their patients, and not bringing up any problems with the insurance provider. Whether this is carelessness on the part of the front desk staff or greed on the part of the practice, I did not appreciate having to pay $400+ for a routine eye exam, nor did I appreciate the team pushing on me future appointments for contacts fittings and other care I did not need. Just know that if you come here for your eye care, it's likely the same carelessness will happen to you.
I booked my eye exam 2 months in advance. Arrived on time at 8:45am. But I was told that they no longer accept my insurance. I Do not trust this place!
I went here from western MA to get a second opinion on an eye issue. From the front desk staff to the 3 testing staff to the doctor that I saw (Dr. Krishnan), I was treated with respect, and all were very helpful. If it wasn't so long a drive, I would happily use this as my regular eye doctor! I felt I got great care here and highly recommend.
Terrible service. Unhelpful in my attempt to get eye exam records in a timely manner. Emailed me a release form but said i must snail mail it back or come into the office, no option of emailing it back, DESPITE MY EXPLAINing I HAD A STROKE, AM UNABLE TO SEE NOR DRIVE, AND THE NEURO OPTHALMOLOGIST NEEDS MY RECORDS IMMEDIATELY. Absolutely horrible and usesless company in an emergency. STAy AWAY! Do not trust them with your health nor with timely helpful urgent business.
I have been treated at New England Eye Center for over 10 years and have always had a positive experience. The practice is busy but the doctors and technicians I have worked with have always seemed efficient, caring, well-trained, attentive to concerns, and (most important) very capable. In 2018 they moved from somewhat cramped quarters to a new location on Concord Ave, and my recent experience there was positive.
Another reviewer complained of excessive phone hold times, but I have not been on hold longer than 2-3 minutes and usually it is much less than that.
Though not an established patient with this practice, the staff were kind enough to grant me an emergency visit to remove a contact lens that had been embedded in my eye for nearly 3 weeks. The medical secretaries were professional and efficient; the the technician was thorough, and the doctor treated me promptly, capably, compassionately, and without pain. The office, too, was spotless. I highly recommend New England Eye Center of Cambridge for your ophthalmic needs.
Had not been to eye doctor in decades. I was referred to NE Eye Center by my primary doctor to treat a severe stye. Met with Dr Ko and could not have been more pleased. She was very personable, informative, gave me a few choices of treatment and was on time actually saw me earlier than scheduled appointment. I actually left feeling I would like weekly eye appointment! I could not recommend any higher they are 11 out of 10 rating!
My mother had 2 appointments here- and both times this practice was terrible about communication.
She left her work early to go to her first appt. When she showed up the front desk informed her they did not have authorization from her Insurance and she could be seen but would pay out of pocket. When she asked why someone hadn't let her know, the practice said her insurance should have informed her but she was welcome to keep her appt and pay out of pocket. I have managed medical practices my entire career and although the insurance should inform the patient about coverage, the practice should also inform the patient just so they don't go through the trouble of coming in.
But nope.
My mother then called her insurance and they were baffled she was turned away. The rep said that she would call the practice and My mom could shortly after reschedule her appt.
For her second appt my mother was called to show up early. My mother ended up making some last minute changes to her schedule so she could get there early. She gets to her appt and the front desk informs her that just a few days ago they stopped accepting her insurance!
1. Couldn't you have called and told her that a few days ago before she made changes to her schedule?
2. Did you not think to mention it when you called her to tell her show up early?
I am not sure what is happening with oversight of the front desk coordinators but I blame this squarely on management for not training them adequately. An extremely poor experience for my mother, and an even bigger waste of time.
