I have seen none of the problems cited by others. My doctor is Jill Smith and she is knowledgeable (of course), answers questions, and both caring and pleasant.
I have never had to wait long to start the process once I arrive. Sometimes there is a short wait between the preliminary exams and seeing Dr Smith but the entire appointment is less than an hour.
Dr Smith performed cataract surgery on both of my eyes and everything went well. I see her annually for checkups.
Absolutely mismanaged. They cancel appointments that were already rescheduled and after waiting over 6 months for rescheduled appointment. There is no office manager. Front desk, Billing department, none knows what they are doing. When asked for management information, thr call gets put on hold and disconnected. I don't know what is happening here. I would like upper management to reach out to me.
This place was absolutely terrible. We took my son in for a follow-up visit after he was hit by a tennis ball. Since our insurance only covers injury-related visits (not routine checkups), I made it very clear when scheduling the appointment that this was specifically a follow-up for his injury, not a regular checkup. Yet a month later, we received a $400 bill because the visit was coded as a routine exam.
When I contacted the billing department, they submitted a request in April for the doctor to correct the coding, but she never did. After multiple follow-ups, billing told me I would need to contact the office directly since they had already sent several requests to the doctor without any response. When I finally reached the office, the manager explained that because Dr. Zepeda was the one who coded it--and had since gone on maternity leave until January--nothing could be done. Now we are stuck with a $400+ bill that should never have been charged.
This is a shocking display of unprofessional behavior. I should not be penalized for mismanagement and lack of communication between staff, billing, and the doctor. They demonstrated a complete lack of accountability, follow-up, and transparency. It feels like this doctor and clinic are simply trying to squeeze as much money as possible out of patients, regardless of the circumstances.
I will never return to this doctor or clinic, and I strongly caution others to stay away.
I booked my two children their first eye exams at NW Eye Associates at 1:30 and 2pm. The apparent 30 minute appointment slots provided no indication that these initial check-ups can take far longer than 30 minutes and I wasn't provided any advanced information informing me that this is often the case.
We unfortunately arrived 15 minutes late but were told that the doctor would still be able to see both children and we were charged a total of $500 upfront; 250/child (without any subsequent paperwork or receipt provided post payment).
On entering the doctor's room we were then told that there would only be time to check one child's eyes (so already $250 down).
The doctor was part-way through my daughter's exam when she explained she would put in pupil dilation drops. It was not explained that these take up to 40mins to work and so we were then ushered out of the room immediately and asked to come back later. We did not have time to wait as I had assumed (without being told prior to our appointment) that the check-ups would last an hour in total.
I requested a refund and the lady at the front desk agreed and told me that it had been processed before we left the waiting room.
I waited 10 days and no refund arrived. I have been chasing a refund ever since and NW Eye Associates claim to have no record of the payments made even though the funds have clearly exited my bank account.
That was 7 weeks ago and I am still waiting for confirmation that they have a record of my payment, let alone receiving the refund itself.
I've been a patient at this practice for years. It has deteriorated to the point where I felt compelled to write this review. Here are some facts: the appointments are NEVER on time, the office fails to callback repeatedly, the appointments are rushed and the medical care is abysmal (three failed prescriptions). They just don't care. I've since moved on to another practice in West Newton which is infinitely superior (and confirmed the failures of Newton Wellesley Eye Associates). Read the other reviews.
This place is the worst of the worst when it comes to being organized and responsive. I had an appointment cancelled by the staff for unclear reasons, then they never followed up, and the staff doesn't respond to MyChart messages reliably.
Just called with a possible eye emergency. My insurance changed. I was told they don't take my insurance and before I could ask for a referral the receptionist hung up on me.
Nice job NW Eye. Horrible
Newton Wellesley Eye Associates has truly come a long way. I have had some issues in the past BUT it seems that they now have someone new in charge of the front desk, I believe the lady said his name was Zak, and I can see a WORLD of difference. The phone system has been updated and not a single one of my calls has gone unanswered, the front desk staff are always extremely courteous, and they seem to be getting their ducks in a row, if they aren't already. Thank you Newton Wellesley Eye Associates and Dr. Smith, you have been lifesavers!
