After a serious brain injury, I went through a year of cognitive, speech, and occupational therapy, along with prescription migraine medication. Despite all of this, I was still at my wits' end. I couldn't see consistently or use my eyes for long periods of time without severe neurological side effects. My double vision and diplopia were ruining my ability to drive, work, and manage daily life. I couldn't keep track of appointments or use my executive functioning skills. My world had become so small.
Before my injury, I was working full time, getting promoted, in graduate school, and raising two young children. Afterward, even simple tasks felt impossible. My occupational therapist recommended that I see Dr. Thamel for visual therapy after I completed OT. I had already been denied prism lenses by a previous eye doctor, despite my full medical team recommending them. I felt desperate.
From my very first appointment, Dr. Thamel believed me. He tested my eyes thoroughly, used objective measurements, and provided me with the glasses (Neurolens) and visual therapy I truly needed. Over three months of training my eyes and brain with the incredible staff in the visual therapy office, I made progress I didn't think was possible. At my post-therapy evaluation, I passed all my exams -- but more importantly, I got my life back.
Today, I can work 9-hour days, four days a week. I can parent my little ones without overwhelming fatigue. I went from barely being able to drive 30 minutes to driving to New York and back. My diplopia is minimal, and I'm no longer closing my eyes when someone crosses my line of vision.
Cognitive, speech, and occupational therapy -- along with medications -- couldn't get me to where I am today. But Dr. Thamel's evaluation, belief in me, and treatment plan did. My life feels so much closer to normal again because of him and his team.
Thank you to Dr. Thamel and the entire Vision Source team -- you gave me back my independence, my confidence, and my quality of life.
I had been looking for an eye doctor since moving to Worcester and Vision Source was the first one to pop up nearby. The front desk was so welcoming and warm, Dr. Houston and his staff are incredibly kind and informative. The process was smooth and it was refreshing to not have to have my eyes dilated to get checked out. Thank you so much! I look forward to next year's appointment!
Our daughter was experiencing significant difficulty reading, was frustrated in school and was losing confidence. She was diagnosed with dyslexia at the same time that we saw the doctor at Vision Source who recommended vision therapy. She did 12 weeks of vision therapy and her reading, spelling and comprehension have all increased significantly bringing her to grade level. Her confidence has been restored and we will be forever grateful for the skills of the talented team at Vision Source.
I cannot say enough about Dr. Valerie A. Ricciardi and her exceptional staff! From the moment I walked into this family-owned practice, I felt completely at ease. Dr. Ricciardi is incredibly personable and takes the time to explain everything in a way that is easy to understand. You can tell she genuinely cares about her patients and their well-being.
The entire team is warm, professional, and accommodating, making the experience comfortable from start to finish. It's refreshing to see a practice where you can have an engaging and informative conversation with your doctor while feeling like you're part of the family.
If you're looking for top-notch eye care from people who truly go above and beyond, this is the place to go. Highly recommend!
I have been receiving my annual eye exams at Vision Source for many years now. The optometrists who have done my eye exams have been very friendly, professional, and thorough, always making sure that there were no issues with my eyes as well as making sure that I received the correct lenses for my glasses. I can't say enough, good things about the medical staff, The lens specialists, front desk staff.
Most recently, I had an urgent care appointment, and was seen by Dr Lauren Thamil. After doing a very thorough exam, she was able to explain exactly what was going on with my eyes and put my mind at ease. Despite being a Friday evening at the start of a long holiday weekend, she was very willing to see me and make sure that I was OK. I wouldn't hesitate to refer my friends and family to her.
What a GREAT experience. Who can say that about visiting an ophthalmologist? Listen. I've been struggling with a debilitating eye condition for 8 years. It has not been fun. I'm still struggling. It is still not fun. But you know what makes life a little bit better? Good people. People who care about what they do and people who care about other people - especially in a medical office. Aden is the young man who did the eye testing. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. I actually enjoyed having bright lights flashing in my eyes. He was human - not just a boring technician who wanted to collect a pay check and get going with his weekend (it's Friday). Dr. Houston is the one I came to see. He was genuinely caring, patient, and clearly knew what he was doing. He gave me all the time I needed and listened to me vent for a good half hour. He suggested a new product/treatment that I haven't tried yet, but wasn't pushy. I trusted him, so I went for it. I told him if these neuro lenses help with my eye pain, I'll buy him a pony. And I mean it. I don't even know if he wants a pony, but he'll get one. And finally - Eudora. I could tell just by looking at her that she was a doll - the welcoming smile says it all. She was a delight - friendly and kind. And because she looked much cooler than me, I asked her to help me pick out some new frames. After trying about 79 pairs, I chose the ones SHE selected. Oh, and I had a little fashion eye show with everyone in the office which pretty much made everyone's day complete. You're welcome. To all of you who helped me today - THANK YOU. What a special group! I'll be back with a pony for everyone.
First class. Dr Ricciardi diagnosed and followed up on an eye infection recently with a high level of professionalism. +1 got me right in the day before a holiday. Excellent interactions with all office people.
Thanks again you have a customer for life and will recommend you to everyone!
Our daughter, growing up with the screens in schools today is near sided. We learned about solid contacts to wear overnight - and it is the most powerful physical medical intervention we have ever seen! And that is with 5 kids... the short is my daughter does no longer need classes, has no headaches at school and started playing volleyball!
What makes this practice special though is the care, the zero sales, the amount of support to get used to contacts - simply amazing.
