I couldn't be more pleased with the doctors and staff at the Speciality Eye Institute in Ann Arbor! During my recent visit, my optometrist, Dr. Vandenbosh, had to give me some bad news about my eyes. He had researched my eye health history and is well-informed about my rare eye condition. He gave me the bad news professionally and with kindness and empathy. I also have complete trust in Dr Gago, who is my ophthalmologist at the Ann Arbor location. The receptionist during my last visit went out of her way to accommodate my needs. I saw her helping other patients, too. Check in was easy. I had almost no waiting. Parking was available close to the entry door.
I went with my wife to see Specialty Eye Institute for her cataracts and we were extremely happy with the entire visit. The entire staff is very polite, understanding & helpful. My wife went in very nervous & scared, but came out relaxed & pleased with the treatment she received. Dr Gago is very patient friendly and tells you just how things will happen at time of surgery & putts his patients first and at ease. Rachel covers everything at checkout & makes sure you leave with your questions answered.

The staff is great, caring and professional! Dr. VandenBosch is the best! He really cares, explains everything, and makes you smile and stay positive about what's going on with your eyes. Wouldn't go anywhere else.
Although the doctors are excellent and we were ultimately satisfied with the surgery, the service center itself--particularly scheduling and billing--was extremely disappointing. It's nearly impossible to reach anyone, there were multiple errors throughout the process, and calls are never returned as promised. We were also overcharged and are still trying to get our refund. Side note, after months of chasing, the billing department never followed up as promised and we never received our refund. In 2025/26, with so many medical centers offering both great doctors and reliable service, this place simply isn't worth the frustration. Do your research and go elsewhere.
Always pleasant, and professional! I have total faith in Speciality Eye Institute. I've had 3 issues with my eyes and they helped get everything corrected perfectly! I recommend them for all Opthmalogy issues! Dr. Gago is the best!
Absolutely terrible experience. Nobody at this office seems to know how to do their job. The scheduling staff clearly have no understanding of insurance. They confirmed my coverage twice when I booked, then called three days before my appointment to review pre-appointment instructions and confirm insurance again. Only for me to be told on the day of the appointment that they do not take my insurance.
The grumpy front desk lady acted like she had no idea what was going on, kept blaming other people, and spoke to me in an extremely rude and condescending tone. To make things worse, Dr. Gago was just as unprofessional, completely lacking basic manners, respect, and any sense of patient care.
The entire office feels disorganized, untrained, and indifferent. From the front desk to the doctor, there is zero communication, zero professionalism, and zero courtesy.
I've been seeing Dr Gago for over 10years. Apparently he has joined some big group to save money and any communication goes thu a call center. You can't talk to the office. You will be on hold for hours and they seem very confused if you do get thru. I think it's in China. For this reason I can no longer recommend Dr Gago. It too bad he was a great Dr. But I have to find another provider. bye Doc
I was very impressed with everyone in this office. All were knowledgeable and helpful not to mention friendly. I feel much more prepared for my cataract surgery.
