Dr. David L. Cooke

When it comes to selecting an ophthalmologist , I think the most important criteria are competency and technical skill. I can share an experience that viewers may find helpful. I have been a patient of Dr. Cooke for approximately 10 years. Several years ago he performed cataract surgery on my right eye and earlier this year he diagnosed an unrelated macular hole on the same eye. He referred me to a retinal surgeon at Great Lakes Eye Care. I wanted to address this problem ASAP but could not get an appointment either there or some of the other regional eye centers for several weeks. However, due to an unusual cancelation, I was able to get an appointment with a very well regarded retinal surgeon at Northwestern University Hospital. During the initial exam this specialist was using a viewing device called a Slit Lamp. While looking at the macular hole, she suddenly pulled away from the device and asked, "Who did your cataract surgery?" Somewhat alarmed, I replied, "Dr. David Cooke of St. Joseph" . Her response, "Well, he did an excellent job!" Her comment represents an unsolicited, unbiased and spontaneous validation of Dr. Cooke's excellent work by another very well credentialed specialist. It doesn't get much better than that. I would highly recommend Dr Cooke as a cataract surgeon as well as general ophthalmologic care.
