Dr. William P. Potthoff Jr, MD

I was becoming petrified to drive at night due to progressive cataracts, resulting in blinding headlights & sunbursts, which became magnified when it was raining. Dr. Potthoff explained & answered all my questions regarding cataract surgery and the different lens options available. Even though the LAL (light adjusted lens) is the most expensive choice, I selected it because achieving the best possible vison is a highly valuable investment. I felt very confident in Dr. Potthoff's abilities because he's thorough & explains everything so clearly and understandable along with having a calm and kind nature. I appreciated his patience during the multiple treatments/adjustments (to the intraocular lens after cataract surgery) in helping me to achieve the excellent vision I enjoy today. I don't wear corrective eyeglasses anymore and only rely on "readers" for fine needle work. I also appreciate the personalized attention during office visits. It's not the usual "assembly line" of tests performed by office staff, he does all the testing/evaluations himself. He even "rooms" his patients, allowing his office staff to concentrate on scheduling & phone calls. Everyone in his office is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. If you're searching for excellence in eyecare, I highly recommend Dr. Potthoff.

My best friend, an optometrist in Phoenix, said of the many ophthalmologists he knows, he trusts only two for cataract surgery. Whom should I choose in Traverse City? Seeking input from as many people as possible, some names were never mentioned while Dr. Potthoff was overwhelmingly the most frequent recommendation, with glowing reviews. My local optometrist validated that choice, corroborating it by saying Dr. Potthoff is a superb cataract surgeon while many others in this area have complication rates suggesting they need more training. Also impressive is his staff and superbly run office, the best I've ever seen. As other doctors gravitate toward assembly-line, take-a-number care, Dr. Potthoff is committed to exceptional care, and he delivers it. I have a challenging case stemming from an epiretinal membrane and LASIK botched by another ophthalmologist, but none of this fazed Dr. Potthoff, who knew exactly what to do, giving me vision better than I thought possible. He has The Right Stuff. In my opinion as a retired doctor, he is the right choice for an ophthalmologist in Traverse City. We are fortunate to have such an outstanding cataract surgeon in Northwestern Michigan.

My wife and I were both seen this morning for our overdue eye exams. We were new patients to this practice and found Dr. Potthoff to be thorough, caring, and up on all the new technologies. It was a great experience from the time we walked through the door and were greeted by the Office Manager, and we would highly recommend placing your eye care in the hands of this kind man.

Although I had come in for a consultation re: cataract surgery in my left eye, through an extensive exam, he indicated that the condition of that eye did not merit surgery yet. But he detected a film that had formed in my right eye post an earlier cataract surgery (not by him). He quickly scheduled the YAG laser treatment for me. That was quick and easy, and has resulted in clearer vision. So I am very pleased with my experience with Dr. P., both because of what he solved for me so quickly, and with what he deemed as too early for treatment!

Great experience since started seeing (pun intended) Dr. Bill a few years back. The personalized care, punctuality of appointments, pleasant staff, along with a quiet office environment is a rarity. Professional without being intimidating, Dr. Bill seems sincerely more interested in quality of care, than quantity of patients they can cram in.

Paula and Dr. Potthoff make a wonderful team. Always kind and helpful during my office visits and Cataract surgery. Having had Lasik surgery in my past made for more challenging measurements for my replacement lens. Dr. Potthoff nailed it. I am so happy with my new vision!

Dr. Potthoff is highly qualified AND is great about the service side as well. I worked in Healthcare my whole career. Finding a great doctor is hard to do. Glad I hooked up with him. I also believe you need an M.D. to get the best eye care possible. Dr. P is the real deal.
