Superior Optical Lab

As you see on the photo the right lens wasn't grinder down. I return their survey back with a picture of the glasses. They called me and told me to go back to the VA. The person in the optical shop try to get them replaced and after six weeks of waiting I called Superior Optical and was told the new pair hadn't been approved by the VA for payment. I never received a letter call or anything. I had to call. Really you need to send me a new pair. But you know what when you have a contract with the government, especially the VA you can treat the Vets anyway you want.

Update 2.0: I'm very pleased to say I was contacted by Superior Optical Lab and told of what is best described as a perfect storm of issues that appears to have affected my service. Apparently there was a problem with a email I sent to the company and that being forwarded to the VA. I was also assured that they would be looking into the several voicemails I left with my local VA optical lab. It is also important to say the companies representative gave me his direct phone number in case of a future issue. I don't think I'll ever need it, since I do think my broken glasses was a once in a lifetime problem. But this was a wonderful gesture. So lm very pleased to say I did receive my replacement glasses. I also hope that the issues I've had won't happen to me or any other veteran. I also hope the Superior Optical Lab (SO) will be able to correct issues between them and the VA. Because after speaking with SO, I feel they care about the services they provide. Update: Absolute trash company - servicing veterans. I've tried more phone calls and a email to the company and still no one has responded . Frankly, it's hard to rate. I've used them three times now via the VA System, and two times, there have been issues. First, the turnaround time from the VA to their manufacturing shop in Mississippi has always been decent. I have no complaints at all. As for the prescription, it seems to be accurate and as prescribed. Now let's get to the negatives: The first problem pair was this. I purchased upgraded frames and paid for all the bells and whistles. Such as transitions, Crizal coating, and progressive bifocals. Approximately 2 months later, I (my fault) somehow got a small mark/chip in a lens. I happened to be going back to the VA a couple weeks later and stopped in the Optical Shop. Speaking with the staff, I was told there is NO warranty on the glasses. I was shocked. Even the box optical places have a year. The second incident is currently ongoing with the latest pair I received in early July. 8 days after receiving them the frame separated. To me it looks like a weld broke. I didn't drop or damage them in any way. The weld just broke. Again 8 days. Since then I've left two messages with my VA Optical Shop and have not received a call back. I'm told these representatives are not VA staff (but who knows?) The VA is nearly 1 1/2 hour drive away and have no upcoming appointments. So speaking to someone face to face wont happen. The Superior Optical website drives all calls to the VA center you got the exam and optical shop you visited. So Im guess I'm basically out of luck. So as for free glasses, maybe its good. But I'd never pay for another thing from them. I recommend you consider my experience.

The prescription readers I received fit well, they are the same style I chose, and the prescription is good for close reading. Problem is the lab put someone else's order receipt in the box that was addressed to me. I have requested a replacement hard copy of the prescription from my local VA optician department. I will follow up as best I can to ensure that the glasses I received match the prescription. As stated, they appear to be correct. Superior Optical, please ensure you are matching shipped glasses with the correct paperwork.

I ordered prescription sunglasses through the va for fishing and driving. The first pair was not what i ordered. I ordered mirrors on them as well. There were also faded areas in one of the lenses. I sent them back to be corrected. Almost 7 weeks later. I got the second pair, but I still don't have mirrors on the lenses. I guess you don't get what you pay with this company. I don't recommend if you're going to pay, go somewhere else.

The VA at Perry Point in Maryland used this lab to make my eyeglasses. Worst pair of glasses. Not only did the lenses come back with wrong prescription in one lens, they weren't high index lenses. How do you make so many mistakes when you're only job is to make glasses? It's because you were the lowest bidder for the contract which equals low quality. It's sad veterans are subjected to this!

The Superior office at the Richmond VA handled my VA approved glasses. On Jul 25 they processed the request and charged me $85 for transitions. On Aug 25 I called and asked where my glasses were. The office told that no PO had been processed and I needed to find the office in the va responsible for that. That is absolutely absurd. The man who I talked with was very rude and refused to help. I have o idea how to fix this problem, he didn't offer to refund my money or give mne any further help. Worst service I have ever had.

The latest pair of glasses I received from the VA via Superior Optical Lab were the best in recent memory. So much so that I ordered a second pair. The personnel at the shop in the North Charlotte VA clinic and on the phone were professional and personable. The cost of the second pair was quite reasonable at just over $50. I feel valued as a veteran and VA patient.
