I've had mixed experiences with this clinic. On the positive side, I've never had issues getting appointments, and the doctors themselves have always treated me well. My last exam was with Dr. Richard Katz, and he was incredibly kind, thorough, and clearly very experienced. You can tell he knows his field inside and out, and I genuinely appreciated the care he provided. That said, the reason for my lower rating is the ongoing issue with contact lens orders. I ordered contacts in January, and as of March, I still haven't received them. I was told that patients have been experiencing delays since early October due to vendor issues. Initially, I was informed the clinic had lost their vendor, and more recently I was told they actually had trouble with the vendor and that there is no ETA on when orders will be fulfilled. While I understand that supply or vendor issues can happen, what's frustrating is the lack of proactive communication. It doesn't seem like patients were notified broadly about the problem, and orders were still being placed even though delays were already occurring. I feel that patients should have been informed upfront so they could make an informed decision before ordering. To their credit, the staff has tried to help by providing sample contacts in a different brand to hold me over. I don't blame the front desk staff or the doctor. They've been professional and kind throughout. However, this feels like a management-level issue. It would go a long way if ownership or management stepped up with clearer communication and a more organized solution. I truly hope they resolve this soon, because the providers themselves are great. But better systems and communication are definitely needed.

do not waste your time here. the employees are very rude and uncoordinated. they never answer phone calls unless you spam call repeatedly. why are there 2 front desk employees if no one is going to answer the phone? once someone finally did answer i was finally informed the appointment i made that i was waiting more than 3 weeks for, was for nothing. when i first scheduled my appointment i asked about my insurance and was informed i could come in for an eye exam. on the day of my appointment they finally tell me that i will have to pay out of pocket because i ran out of benefits. i waited 3 weeks trying to call for any cancellations or more information and never any answer. i could of been informed of this from the start. called another eye care centers and they were better help and nicer. these people get upset anytime they have to deal with people. i will not be returning here. there are way better eye care centers in chinatown with better trained employees.

I took my three children (ages 16,14 and 10). We have gone there for years. Today my 16 year old girl (who is more of a tomboy) was looking at glasses after her exam. I was in the room with the younger two. When I came out I could see she wasn't happy but she had made a selection. She was told if she didn't like the " women's" glasses that our insurance covers then she can pay more to look at other "women's " glasses. I asked the guy helping her if there were anymore glasses for her to see and he said no. I then asked if my son had to get glasses from the "women's " glasses since that's all he had? He said no he can look at " men's". He is 10 and can look at men's but she is 16 and somehow she is being denied. I asked several times if she could see them. He kept repeating they are for "boys". Eventually he allowed her to see them. Both my two girls and boy got glasses from the "boys" glasses. I sent my kids into the lobby and tried to explain to the man why I was upset and he told me to not tell him how to do his job. When I got home I realized he didn't even check the pd for my kids prescription. He wanted to be right so bad he was so mean to my children. To top it off the office manager came out trying to excuse his behavior. I left with a child having a breakdown because she is gender fluid. She said people are going to be like this to me my whole life no matter how kind I am. This broke my heart. We have been going here for years but this is the last time. I'm sure they don't care but if it helps save another family from going through this I wanted to write this.

Stay away from The Eyecare Center, they are dishonest. I've been going to The Eyecare Center for about 5 years. I went in to get a prescription for glasses & contact lenses. The lady at the front desk took my ID & insurance card and told me the co-pay would be $40 for the contact lense prescription. I went through the eye exam and everything was fine. The eye doctor was an older man. He was pleasant. Then they brought me over to the eyewear sales area to an African American man, his name is Charles. Charles wanted to sell me on everything. Also, Charles looked high as a kite as his eyes looked like tomatoes they were so red. I told Charles that the only thing I wanted was to buy hard contact lenses through their hard contact distributor. Charles didn't like that and became dismissive of me. Charles then told me the co-pay would be $95. This wasn't what I was quoted by the front desk. Charles and I went back and forth on this sudden upcharge. I told Charles I'd pay the $95 & would go to the contact distributor and pay cash and not use my insurance. Charles was clearly upset. I asked Charles to give me a copy of my prescription that I was paying $95 for. Charles refused. We went back and forth. I wasn't going to pay $95 and not get a copy of my prescription. Charles would not provide me a copy, yet wanted me to pay for the exam. Finally Charles went to get his boss, an Asian lady who worked in the back. She came out and was clearly unhappy that I wanted a copy of my eye prescription. She and I went back and forth on the matter. She then told Charles to print out my copy of the eye prescription. I paid the more than double $40 copay of $95 and received my eye prescription. I'll never go back there. In fact I'm contemplating filing an complaint with the Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners. The Eye Care Center is a shady run outfit. They never used to be like this. I dont know if it's new management. I used to go to the Eyecare Center off Sierra Vista & Maryland. Do yourself a favor and stay away from The Eye Care Center on Durango.

Carmen no longer works here. I went to Dr Katz. He was really good. I've had a positive experience so far. I have culinary union insurance. They vet their health care providers. They won't allow fraud.

I will not be returning here. Here's how my visit went: fast forward once I gave the receptionist my paperwork back I waited in the waiting area to be called (about 10 minutes), I was given the first eye exam from I believe the assistant (she was very sweet). After, she had me wait in another waiting area for the doctor. I waited there for about 20 minutes. She called my name to escort me to the doctors office where he would give me another exam. My red flag was the presentation of his office-- cleaning supplies was visible and an open can of Dr Pepper on his desk. I waited there for about 5 minutes when the doctor told me he had to pull me out of the room because he had a guest that left and now she's back and he's going to take her. I found that very unprofessional.

When Dr. Harvey Ohriner was running things, I would never have had the issues that I've had now. The doctor was condescending, I brought my two teenagers with me and when I asked him what their new prescription was, he told me "it's 6 numbers and you wouldn't understand", really? I've been wearing glasses and contacts for 40 years. I know exactly what each number means, how dare you sir. I got a weird vibe from the staff and thought it was just me until my 15 yr old daughter said the exact same thing. Then to top it off, I ordered contacts and the doctor said, "do you want the trial pair? Might as well since they're free." So I said sure, a free pair is great.....When I called to see if my contacts were in a week and a half later, I was told no, only the trial pair showed up. Then I got a call an hour later that all of the boxes were there. So I sent my wife to pick them up since I work nights and sleep during the day. When she got there they only gave her the trial pair. I called to see why and the staff told me that they have us take home the trial pair for a week to make sure that we like the contacts before they give them to me. Well I paid for them, it's the same contacts I've had for years. Why would they not give me all of the boxes? The doctor told me just to go ahead and get them since they were free. So they said we could come back and get them, I would have rather have had them the first time since it is very difficult for us to get there during their business hours and my wife is now at the store with a cart full of groceries. I after 15+ years my family of five is done with this business.
