Dr. Aquije exceeded our expectations. The Doctor conducted an in depth examination for my adult daughter, and due to a cancellation was able to also conduct testing. At the end of the day Dr. Aquije furnished a preliminary report with recommended accommodations for my daughter at her workplace. We heartily recommend the long Island Optometric Vision Development for the go to practice to meet all your vision needs. The Beckers.
As a former special education teacher/school board member, child advocate, mom of 3 neuroamazing humans and a current patient (actually, she has evaluated my entire immediate family!), I highly recommend Dr. Bessler. Her expertise, caring and comprehensive vision evaluation go well beyond the "usual" routine eye exam to identify not only visual acuity (the 20/20 test) but how well the eyes scan, coordinate, process visual information and more. This is especially important as part of a thorough evaluation process for individuals experiencing developmental learning challenges.
In the spring of 2023, Dr. Bessler diagnosed my then 9th grader with a convergence insufficiency, recommending glasses with specific lenses, vision therapy with her incredible team and accomodations to be included in his IEP.
This not only improved my son's vision but also his awareness of body in space, coordination and his ability to more accurately process visual information at school and in his daily life.
As a result his grades improved and, most importantly, his confidence and participation in the after school activities he loves!
Dr. Bessler's follow up conference and report has also given his teachers, other school professionals, myself and most importantly him the background knowledge to understand visual processing disorders and how to best advocate for the recommended supports! My son even created a slideshow about how his vision is impacted to share with his team! If I could go back in time with the knowledge of the visual system, I would have had my children evaluated by her as part of their annual well visits from toddlerhood.
I am joined in my regard for Dr. Bessler by many other parents, families as well as educational professionals. I am beyond grateful to her and her amazing staff!
MD Blesser is a wonderful doctor. My 5 year son is a patient of hers for almost a year now and I can't say enough about how kind and patient she is with him. She is very giving of her time. You always feel like she is giving you her undivided attention and will explain things clearly. She assisted me with the paperwork for getting my son vision services. I had called the office when I had a problem and she called me back the same day. I feel nowadays you're lucky if a doctor will get back to you in a week or even return your phone call at all. Once my son got the services at school she offered to speak to the therapist if needed so they can collaborate together. She without a doubt cares about her patients and wants to see them improve. My son is blessed to be one of her patients. He's already showing signs of improvement and it's because of her and her wonderful team.
At the recommendation of my occupational therapist, my son was evaluated by Dr. Bessler when he was in second grade. He was not reading or writing properly and could not copy or spell (his visual memory was poor) despite intense intervention. Additionally, he did not engage in any visual tasks (puzzles, word finds, or sports). Dr. Bessler identified his issues and recommended vision therapy. (He had 20/20 vision) We had vision therapy sessions twice a week for 16 weeks and practiced every day. (The practice is key to success! Parents who say it does not work may not be following through!). In four month's time he had astounding results! When she reevaluated him, she said he did not need more therapy. (I was willing to continue with more sessions, but Dr. Bessler said we would wait and see.) That was when I realized that she is not doing this for the money. She could have gotten more $ from me, but didn't! She truly had my son's best interest in mind and she was right! He never needed to return for therapy. He is now and successful college student! I am a teacher and when I see similar issues, refer students to her because of my successful experience. Dr. Bessler is an honest and wonderful practitioner! Many thanks to her and her dedicated staff for changing my child's life! I know he would have struggled for years without this intervention!
Hands down the best vision specilaist on Long Island!! Ive been with Dr Bessler for 3 years now. She is very knowledgeable, professional and patient. She takes her time, you will not feel rushed and she really listens. She goes over and beyond and truly cares deeply about her patients. You don't get this from doctors these days. If you need an eye doc/vision therapy, make an appt with Dr B!!!
Phenomenal! Our son was having so many vision related reading issues. After several months of vision therapy his eye turn is no longer visible and his reading and understanding of what he's read has really taken off! He even enjoys reading now. Thank you Dr. Bessler!
It is my personal opinion that vision therapy is a total waste of time and a way for this office to extract $ out of parents who are wondering why their children aren't reading. I truly believe that some children are just not developmentally ready to read at age 4 or 5 and with time their eyes and minds will mature so they can. This was my experience with my child...although we did do a block time at this office, my husband and I both felt it was not useful and stopped. A friend of mine who consulted a renowned pediatric neuro psychologist quoted several studies that vision therapy does not work. My daughter eventually learned to read (some say the average age when children learn to read is 7, which is when mine did) and is now reading sophisticated books beyond her grade level. Everyone learns to read...just give it time and don't pour your valuable time and $ into snake oil.
The doctors and staff at this vision development and therapy practice offer hope and results for patients who need more than glasses for their best visual outcome !
