She was almost an hour late & then acted inconvenienced by me. I'm autistic & have sensitivity to light & other vision issues. I asked about prisms because I read they can help autistics. She looked at me like I'm an idiot & said prisms are only prescribed for double vision, but later she said they're sometimes used for autistic kids who toe-walk. Afterward I learned that prisms have been used since the '70s for autistic people of all ages for many issues. She also told me to use transition lenses for light sensitivity & I still can't believe I had to explain to her that transitions wouldn't help because they don't respond to artificial light. She never mentioned FL-41s which are designed for the issue I have & don't require a prescription. Instead, she pushed for an expensive prescription that isn't covered by my insurance & wouldn't help me more than sunglasses do. I've never seen a doctor so rude & so wrong. She acted like I wasted her time, like she hated being there & thought my complaints weren't real, like having migraines daily isn't important.

I came in with my boyfriend because he was experiencing floaters in his eye and was concerned about the possibility of eye cancer. From the start, the provider seemed uninterested and disengaged--going through the motions with the first machine, repeating "number one or number two" in a completely flat tone, like she'd rather be anywhere else. After dilating his eyes, she briefly examined them and said, "Yep, you have floaters," offering no further explanation. It wasn't until I asked what floaters are and what to expect that she gave any additional information. Even then, she acted like answering my questions was a burden--sighing and showing visible annoyance. When I asked if floaters could lead to cataracts, she snapped, "Completely different part of the eye," with an unnecessary amount of attitude. The whole experience felt dismissive and unprofessional.

I loathe attaching my name to such a painful review, especially one that calls out an individual, and not an office or a business, but I have to. I have to try and spare some of you this experience. Like the other reviews, I had a MISERABLE experience with Dr. Bulkley. I do not mean to speak harshly or ill of another person, but I believe this provider might be troubled in a way that ultimately should disqualify them from taking on a care provider role. In fact, I just spent an hour filing a grievance against this provider with my insurance company. I cannot and do not trust any of the results of my visit with this optometrist. Never in my life have I encountered a physician or a medical provider who demonstrated this level of coldness, dismissiveness, and disinterest towards me as a patient. Heck, I've never even HEARD of anything like this. This is going to sound really, REALLY rough, but God's honest truth: I felt as though I was in the presence of someone who had ZERO regard for me as a person or a patient. I don't need to play patty cake with my doctor or be their best friend, but I believe she might have a personality disorder which makes connecting with others difficult to impossible. I'm not perfect, nor am I the happiest person on Earth--- so I'm in no position to be judgmental of anyone. But this isn't judgement--- this is how it felt: There was NO kindness, NO compassion, NO politeness whatsoever. NONE. It was an incredibly stressful and uncomfortable experience. If you expect to see the kindness or the faintest glimmer of a caring person, you will not. I am at a loss to understand or explain how a medical professional could make it this far in life without being set aside for their totally unprofessional conduct, or steered away from a career that requires even a shred of friendliness. I had little to no faith in any of her medical opinions or the results of the examination she conducted. My questions and concerns were responded to with the same aggressive dismissiveness that the other reviewers mentioned. I have never felt so undervalued as a human being, ever, in any context. I'm a grown man who has lived a lot of life, and I have never felt more unsettled in the presence of a human being than I felt in that office with this provider. I am not kidding. I'm embarrassed and saddened to have to be so frank. I believe everyone deserves a fair shake, but I have nothing redeeming to share about my experience with this provider. I hope she is ok and is getting the help she needs, if she needs it. And imho, she needs it. And if she is reading these reviews, and it's not yet obvious to her that her behavior and attitude are utterly inappropriate for the field she's in, I hope she'll reconsider her line of work. Maybe she belongs in a research environment where she can work alone or with a group of people who don't need their colleague to show any humanity toward them. Everyone deserves to find their version of happiness, and I wish this person all the best, but I also wish she would consider a different line of work. I'm sorry to have had to share all of this. I really do wish her the best.
