When I turned 65 I thought to myself "What one thing about aging would I reverse if I could?", and the answer was my vision. (When I was young my vision was perfect, but for the last 20 years I have needed stronger and stronger prescriptions to be able to see clearly.) I figured this was an impossible dream, but Dr. Costello made it reality. I had cataract surgery on both eyes, using the laser and the multi focal lens. Two days after surgery I was driving and all of a sudden noticed that I could read the license plate of the car ahead of me with no glasses on ! At first I could not believe it, but now, 6 months post surgery, I can do 99 percent of my day without glasses. For REALLY small stuff ( I am a veterinary surgeon) I will use over the counter readers, but that is rare. A real medical miracle, I can see like I did 40 years ago. Thank you Dr. Costello and his fabulous staff.
I had a great experience with Dr. John Costello. I had cataract surgery on both eyes with multifocal lenses and couldn't be happier. He and his staff are very professional and efficient. I would highly recommend.
While they may have a good rating, their back office, especially scheduling is lacking.
They canceled my appointment with no notice. In addition watch out for the hidden cost. They didn't provide the cost of using the laser machine in the quote and had to come up with an extra 5000.00 on top of what of what the insurance paid.
What a bunch of under handed maneuvers, just skirting under the laws.
Dr. Costello is the best ever (only reason I stay in N.Y.). Very pleasant and professional. The staff makes me also look forward to my appts. Love the staff. I have been going there for 20 years and have never had a bad experience.
Dr. Costello Jr. Was meticulous and informative when describing surgery. He answered all questions and surgery was carefully performed with attention to details such as having a clean environment! I am glad I followed through with him!
Disappointing results and zero empathy...I am still dealing with the aftereffects of the cataract surgery I had in July 2022. Let me say upfront that the surgery itself was technically fine and I realize results aren't guaranteed. That said, every time I had a post-op visit, I was made to feel that I was being too critical and that I needed to be patient about the results. I will admit that my distance vision was "cured" by the surgery to about 20-30, however, my near vision was completely obliterated. I don't feel I was given enough information about that...I was told I would probably need readers, yes, but I wasn't told that my near vision and mid range vision would be likely to be intolerable. And I made it clear in my pre-op visits that I am a reader and do a lot of detailed art work, so clearly my near vision is important to me. For an extra $2000 or so per eye, I could have gotten the graduated implant lenses, but couldn't afford that and they aren't covered by insurance. If I had been given any indication of how bad my near vision would be after surgery, I would have taken a loan or found a way to raise that money. The doctor, in fact, made a comment at my final visit that a lot of people say that in hindsight. But they hurry you through... You're shown a few videos before surgery and have to make a decision based on those for the most part. The doctor acts totally put out if you have any concerns you want to talk over. He rushes you out asap at every appointment. I also wasn't given much information about the possibility of using two different lenses in my eyes, one for distance, one for close up. I only even knew about this possibility after talking to friends who've had it done. When I did ask about it, I was told I could do it that way if I wanted, but wasn't given any encouragement to look into that. I had no idea what to do, so I figured they're the experts who've done this thousands of times and I trusted their judgement. Now it's nearly 6 months later...I tried just using readers, but that was insanely annoying as I had to pull them off and put them on constantly to do anything within arm's length of my face. Cooking, cleaning, reading, drawing, painting, seeing the dashboard in my car, etc. all became a total pain. So, back to graduated lens glasses it was. (To the tune of over $1000 for two pair and sunglasses). Even with those, I still need a magnifying glass for very fine print or very detailed art work, so now I have magnifying glasses scattered about and a stand magnifier in my studio. I also have way worse floaters than I ever had before the surgery and my head has to be in just the right position for me to read since the graduated eyeglass lenses can't react as your own eyes would. I'm only writing this review in hopes that anyone who is planning to have cataract surgery has an honest review to consider before they make a decision. I was really looking forward to having the surgery because I was never a candidate for Lasik and I hoped for once to have decent vision. I've worn glasses since I was 5 years old (56 when I had the surgery) and all I wanted was to be able to see better. I don't think my concerns were taken seriously after the surgery and I was essentially dismissed after the requisite follow ups with a "have a nice day and don't bother us anymore" attitude. Do your research! All I can say now is I wish I had trusted less and researched more.
I went to Dr. John Costello for a Lasix consult, he stated that I wasn't a candidate but, he asked me what I wanted and I stated not to wear glasses anymore. Through lens extraction I am able to see even better. Thank you and my experience was beyond pleasant.
I went to John Castello with little hope in August of 2018, I have major scarring from Childhood incidents and wore glasses since 3, , I slept with my glasses . He said he couldn't garentee 2020 but it'll be alot better than what I had and I wouldneed readers becauseof the damage to my right eye. John took a long time on my right eye, he gave it all he had, That was 5 years ago, I still see Very well long distance but my close up is starting to get blurry, He gave me sight when I thought there was no hope, I am impressed
