Johnson Optometric Associates PA - Garner, NC

I have been a patient here for several years and have always received 5-star care from the doctors and clinical technicians. However, my recent experience with the Optical Department Manager, Julie, and the administrative "gatekeeping" has been deeply disappointing. When I picked up my new glasses, they were visibly misaligned. Before I even looked in a mirror, Julie told me, "Well, one eyebrow is higher than the other, so if you're looking in the mirror, that's the problem." This was not only an insulting and incorrect comment about my appearance, but it was also nonsensical as I hadn't even seen my reflection yet. It ultimately took five adjustments by a technician to get the glasses to fit correctly, proving the issue was the frame alignment, not my face. No apology was offered at the time. Seeking accountability was equally frustrating. The front desk told me I had to lodge a complaint with Julie about Julie before I could speak to anyone higher up. When I finally reached Julie on the phone, she claimed she did not have an email or phone number for her superior, Barbara. When I finally spoke with Barbara, she apologized and said she would address it internally, but she actively discouraged me from leaving a Google review, noting that the doctors monitor it and are "very busy." While the medical staff is excellent, no patient should be insulted regarding their physical features or given a runaround by the front-of-house management.

Went to have my routine eye exam here, the service was efficient, they had all my info correctly set up, and the staff was courteous. After the eye exam, they didn't try to just sell me a new set of frames. Which is refreshing since that has always been my experience at other optometrists.

The best experience! I came to Dr. Martin for a second opinion for my daughter and we are beyond thankful that he was able to make her feel comfortable while giving her a successful treatment plan. She is so happy that she can finally see and adjusted so quickly to her script and contacts. Thank you so much for your excellent care!

The customer service here is top notch. From making the appointment with Connie and all the way to being seen by Dr. Cummings. We are looking forward to future visits.

I can't say enough good things about this practice!! I recently switched insurances and we were no longer able to go to our usual America's Best anymore. WOW what a HUGE difference coming to a private practice versus a chain. They were so accommodating to get my family seen before our benefits for the end of 2023 were lost. We saw Dr. Jhala and we LOVED her and rescheduled to see her again next year. Every single person we came into contact with was so kind and welcoming. From the front desk to the techs to the ladies who helped fit my kiddos with new glasses. And a very special shout out to the ladies who helped with glasses... never once did anyone lose patience dealing with my children who were a bit cranky and indecisive from being dilated. I will say I was a little worried when we first pulled up because there were religious Christmas decorations outside. There are also religious magazines in the waiting area and other religious decor inside. We are not religious but have respect and acceptance for those who are as long as it's not forced upon us. However, we never once encountered anything except for kindness and mutual respect while there. They did an outstanding job explaining our vision benefits and I left paying an extremely reasonable amount and feeling as though it was worth every penny, even if it had been more. 10/10 for this practice - new patients for life!

I've been seeing Dr. May for several years now, after switching from the Durham VA when my wife added me to her vision policy. I took a literal stick to the eye in October. The vision policy didn't cover a physical injury but they had a very reasonable out of pocket rate. These folks are great! I don't understand the 1 star ratings for the front desk. Connie and the rest at reception have always been great. Everyone has an off day regardless of which side of the desk you're on. The eye glass shop folks are great also, I like to make them laugh. Highly recommended outfit.

I've been going here for YEARS. While there were absolutely other places I've visited, no place has ever taken the time, the energy, and had the skills to make me feel as comfortable as I do here. I love my eye appointments and it feels so good to be back after so many years. Front desk was so kind to me when I called in worried about waking up with pink eye and scared I'd have to cancel my appointment but they assured me to come in and they'd fix me all up. Dr. C was informative, fun, and squashed all my worries. I can tell she has all her patients' wellbeing on her mind with every word she says. Can't wait to see y'all soon!

2025 update: I LOVE this office! I was running behind to my appointment this morning and they were so accommodating and understanding. Dr. Cummings is so considerate, I really enjoyed her, she's a wonderful new addition. Gwen is so awesome! She was extremely helpful at my visit today. I definitely recommend them. I've been coming here since 2019. Dr. Martin is fantastic. He's the first eye doctor I've seen who's super informative and really helps you understand the health of your eyes. I've been wearing corrective lenses for almost 20 years so this is extremely important to me. I even make the drive from Raleigh now because I love coming here. I will be a patient for life!
