10/10 recommend! Imagine being a tax accountant & bc of the weather and roads you end up with no contacts and broken frames and work from HOME no breaks allowed right now... and then you pop up here on the fly & Sharon/team @ Salem Optical literally saves the day! Frames on the spot, FAST service, another pair ordered, contacts and out the door for about 30% less than I have ever spent on all of those things AND IN AN HOUR...maybe less! Just in time for my meeting it's the excellent service that literally changes lives! So grateful for them saving the day and being so KIND! (People were in the store talking about how great the customer service is as I sat there) again, 10/10
I got both mine an my sons glasses here two years ago through medicaid. They have very little choices covered by medicaid anyway, I suppose that's to be expected, but they are extremely cheap. I had the arm break on mine within a couple months of getting them, when I asked them to repair them they tried to sell me a whole replacement frame at much more cost and I asked can I just have the arm replaced..that was only like 5 or 10 bucks but they didn't volunteer that information till I asked as they were trying to get more money. Now 2 years later my other arm broke again and needs replacement. The glasses they have dont even last a few months before breaking. My son's broke within the year and I had to get them fixed 4 or 5 times because he has a behavior disorder and he's hard on them. I had to finally get them replaced within a year bc they were cheap. Do yourself a favor and go to lenscrafters in the mall as they have a special for those on medicaid for glasses for 50 bucks and they've held up way better. Yes these were free but they are very cheaply made. Seems like if you're on medicaid they don't care much about you. They'll provide free glasses but they sure won't be decent ones.
Excellent customer service and great care taken by the employees here. Amanda was very helpful and friendly. We were treated very professionally. We were not rushed and were able to take our time trying on glasses that the staff helped us pick out based on our style choice and face shape. They know what will work for you and it helps a lot to have knowledgeable and competent people helping you. Huge selection and the most competitive prices you will find in the Triad! Eyeglasses are made from quality products and my lenses are perfect! Received my glasses very quickly with zero delays. We will be repeat customers for sure. Give Salem Optical a try if you need glasses.
If I could rate a 0 I would. The owner Amanda was extremely rude but let me start from the beginning. I had glasses made for my child at contour eye wear 5/5 from them! I took the glasses and brought them to Salem optical for an AR coding to be added. When we handed the glasses over the guy was explaining the "scratch resistant" coding that we originally wanted. He was telling us what deep scratches were as he was tapping on the lens and rubbing it with his fingers doing everything he told us could scratch them . As I was gonna speak up he stopped so I just brushed it off. He told me that their is no such thing as "scratch resistant". I left the glasses their that Monday they said it would get sent out that next day on Tuesday. They said to me that it would come back by that Friday or that next week on Monday. I never received them glasses till 3 weeks after dropping them off. I called about them around the 2nd week to see what was going on with the glasses. They said the glasses were damaged by "accident" and that it was being fixed. The price for the AR was $80 I had paid $40 up front. My child is legally blind in his left eye and slightly in his right and he had to go blind this entire time while we waiting for the glasses. Which we were told wouldn't take longer than a week. When the time finally came to get the glasses I was working so I sent my fiance and child to pick them up. My fiance tried to get a discount considering the trouble we have gone through to get these glasses. They denied very rudely and told him he needs to pay the remainder amount of $40 which he did. They then "adjusted" the glasses (bent only the left side in) he has had them for about 9 days and the last 3 days haven't been able to wear them bc they have falling apart. Nose piece fell off and lens fell out when he was reading. That arm they adjusted is falling off. I call back today to explain what was happening to be rudely spoken to by the "owner" Amanda. Who said they didn't break it and wouldn't let me explain what had happened. Continuously cutting me off while speaking and getting a real nasty attitude. I was calling to see if they would replace them.
Hands down the worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. My family has been in the optical business for over 30 years! They were appalled to hear my experience with Salem optical.
Very very unprofessional. If your looking to come to this place DONT it's worth the extra money to go else where!

Updated review. After speaking with Amanda everything has been fixed. My daughter received new glasses that fit her properly and addressed the issues with the doctor.
I have mixed feelings about this place. My child has Medicaid and I was told it would talk 1-1.5 months to get glasses. I was then suggested because of her severe eyesight to buy some. I spent $150 and my child says they hurt her ear. I went to get them adjusted but was told that the type of glasses I got were not really adjustable. This was only 1.5 weeks in. We are still having issues and I asked what if this continues? I was told we could just keep coming back for "adjustments" on glasses that can't be adjusted. 2 weeks after spending a lot of money all of a sudden her glasses come in from insurance. I could have saved that $150 and waited had I known this.
Also the guy that does the glasses comes off kinda a know it all and talks to you like you're stupid. I don't like that at all. I've worn glasses for 30 years. I know how glasses work
I really regret getting my insurance covered glasses here. They broke within two months, very easily. They don't have many options covered by insurance, and they are all really cheaply made. The staff is very rude as well. When I called to ask my PD (because I can't afford their out of pocket prices) they said they wouldn't tell me unless I bought more glasses from them. Very bad experience.
Probably the best experience I've had buying glasses in the 34 years I've worn them.
Susan and Chad and the rest of the staff went above and beyond. I have a pretty strong script and always have to wait for my lenses but I was able to walk out with them that day. They worked with my budget and didn't push more expensive products on me. It felt like they were genuinely concerned with my eye health and situation than just pushing profit like many chains do.
Highly recommend and extremely appreciative of the amazing customer service.
Two great experiences! A couple of months ago, my teen needed a 2nd pair of distance glasses from an 8-month-old Rx. Amanda was amazing at providing friendly and effective care, which suited our sociable yet straightforward daughter. Her new glasses are beautiful (her picture with Amanda attached), and she gets comments on them all the time. Then the doctor changed the script just days later, at an unrelated appointment for dry eyes. Phil understood our dilemma, checked with others, and they were able to remake the lenses to the new script under their 90-day physician's change warranty! The new lenses were finished in less than 30 minutes!
Then, for my complex vision needs, Phil patiently provided incredibly good patient-education about lenses and how my complex prescription would work in different frames. This helped me choose the best frame; make the best decision among bifocals, trifocals, and progressives; and select a lens material! In the meantime, Amanda had chosen a dozen frames in the sizes and looks that she knew would meet my needs for face shape, complexion, eye color, frame demands, and lens requirements. I even got the shorter earpiece (temple distance) that I need.
Finally, Amanda and Phil provided all of this to me while considering the partially unknown outcomes of my upcoming eye-muscle surgery, where we are all hoping that the prescription that they are filling in advance will be the one I need after surgery. I feel 100% confident that this team has exactly the right combination of style advice, care technology, and mathematics for my family and me.
