Dr. Stanley L. Tao, MD

I am very blessed to have had Dr. Tao perform my retinal detachment surgery. Being clinically depressed, I was extremely anxious when he told me what takes place during this procedure. Dr. Tao explained everything in easy to understand terminology, expressed empathy and did his best to reassure me what to expect. Although the vision in my right eye is still about 95% blind, my eye doctor believes that after about 8 to 12 weeks, my sight should return to what it was before. I'm hoping for the best and grateful to God for blessing the hands of this incredible ophthalmologist. Thank you very much, Dr. Stanley Tao. Not only to you, but the rest of your team at ProMedica!

Although I received a somewhat devastating diagnosis of macular degeneration, I appreciated Dr. Tao's no-nonsense, straightforward approach. His explanation of my condition was very thorough and I am grateful for that.

The staff at Promedica Retina are fantastic. everyone is friendly and professional. Dr Tao repaired my torn retina in March 2024. My surgery and recovery went great. Since then I have seen him numerous times for follow up visits and injections to prevent scar tissue in my eye. Dr Tao and his Nurse Stacie are a great team, they are very caring people. They always take time to address any questions or concerns I have, I appreciate everything they have done for me. After reading other reviews I will say if Dr Tao only spends a couple minutes in the room and says everything is good I am confident he is satisfied with what he sees and has other patients who require more attention.

I've done a lot of thinking about this before deciding to post a public review - and I feel it is important to share for those making a decision about their eye care. I've seen Dr. Tao about 4 times over the past couple of years and each visit his time with me has been very short. The wait times have been between 40-75 minutes for a 5 minute visit including around 10 minutes of various tests. In my most recent appointment, he spent around 15 minutes in the room with me and talked to ME for about 3 minutes total. Unfortunately, my husband came in with me wearing a Detroit Tigers shirt - this led to a very long talk about sports. I watched my husband do his best to respond with short comments and try to end the conversation. No go. It was incredibly frustrating to spend so much time listening to Dr. Tao go on and on about different sports - baseball, football, etc. There were two assistants in the room with us and I could tell that they, too, were waiting for him to stop talking sports. As a patient, knowing that other patients (because he is consistently backed up with patients waiting) are waiting, that the needs of his patients seemed to be very secondary, was disturbing. After multiple visits where he has "seen" me for 5 minutes (if that), then have him treat me like I wasn't even there... no more. Think long and hard before making an appointment with him. Despite the fact that he may be "good" in his field. Is it worth it to be disrespected and treated like you are barely or not even there? Not for me.

Hi Dr. Tao Thank you for your caring and kindness, taking care of my eyes. At first I was terrified having a needle placed in my eye. Then having the gel before getting it done. You made me feel comfortable listening to me.. I recommend you as an excellent Doctor.I haven't drank the country time in a year.lol Also you have a Great Staff they're kind and helpful and listening to me .

After so many bad experiences in his office, the last straw was yesterday when I was treated badly. I'm getting a second opinion from someone not in this group of doctors. I am tired of his peek a boo appointments, and lack of bedside manner. The injection in my eye was very painful for me, and he minimized it saying even kids could get this shot. The reviews that said it was not that bad, he must have put in himself, because the shot alone is $5,000. Don't let him fool you, he's neglectful to his patients and doesn't explain anything about the procedure. He doesn't understand just how serious someone's sight is. Because without it, life can be very difficult. He doesn't view his patients as people, only dollar signs.

My visit with Dr.Tao was a positive experience. He and his associates were very professional in a friendly way. I was impressed. I will be seeing Dr. Tao again in a month.
