We are talking about one of the best cornea people in the world here. On top of that, Dr. Ayers is such a nice and patient man who genuinely seems interested in helping people. I came to him desperate for help after years of suffering and repeated refusals for help from other cornea specialists. He did not hassle me with a referral or any other b.s.; he just took me on and put forth his best effort to help. How could anybody ever ask for more?

I have a chronic eye condition. One that I have been receiving the care of some of the most top notch surgeons Philadelphia has to offer. I genuinely believed that due to Dr. Ayres reputation in the city and amongst ophthalmologists, that he must be the best. He must be the person I need to care for my chronic cornea condition! What I found instead was several years of long waits on hold, HOURS of time spent in the waiting room, rude office personnel, lots of time with residents, and approximately 5 minutes with Dr. Ayres himself. He rushed me in and out of his office after HOURS of waiting. On one particular occasion, I had an important meeting to attend that was running a bit late. I called the office to see if it was okay if I came to the office a little late for my appointment. They said if I did, the appointment would be cancelled. So, I left my important appointment early to get to Dr. Ayres' office. I proceeded to wait in the waiting room for 4 hours, and it was apparently going to be AT LEAST 2 additional hours before I may be seen by someone. My babysitter was asking where I was, because she had to get home to her family. I said to the front desk that I have to go, can I reschedule? And they proceeded to inform me that the next appointment is not for months. So, I found a different eye surgeon/corneal specialist in the same practice. Within SECONDS of meeting me, this new physician informed me of corneal technology that would restore my corneas. It would prevent me from a corneal transplant (something Dr. Ayres repeatedly told me was in my future). And was simple and easy to access. She set me up with a consultation before I left that very appointment. It is 3 years later, and I cannot tell you how HAPPY I am that I left Dr. Ayres' care. I no longer sit in waiting rooms for hours, AND I receive the most up-to-date information on current corneal care. I am actually grateful for that 4 hour delay. It forced me to find a different surgeon. And because I found a different surgeon, I was given the care and attention that my eyes required. I no longer will require a corneal transplant. No thanks to Dr. Ayres.
