Walmart Vision & Glasses

I went for a new prescription weeks ago and stop by like two days ago to ask about my PD ( pupil distance) again, just to confirm the information the girl in the front desk gave me. I explain to her that I was there a week ago and the situation and she goes: "oh, we are not allowed to give that information" why u mean by that? That's a patient right and I'm asking about my own prescription because I need to order new glasses because the distance is not in the prescription. I just needed to confirm the number she gave me and she was indifferent about it. I always like that place but I'm not coming back. The guy next to her didn't even care and I left. Patients always have the right to see their information no matter what. That's the law!

I aplogize in advance for the long post but people need to beware.My advice is to know EXACTLY what your insurance covers if you plan on going here. The front end associates do not use your coverage to your advantage. I went there for contacts and glasses. The dr was very nice. No complaints about the exam part. I picked out my frames. The associates don't seem to help with any of that. I chose a black pair that was kind of ombre with a grey color on the bottom. I sat with Dombura to figure out which way to use the insurance. He was polite but not explaining anything at all. He just kept saying its only a $10 difference. He ended up putting my insurance towards the contacts when it definitely wouldve been better to use it towards the glasses. You can buy contacts online anywhere and walmart prices are way higher on these. I went back the next day after I kept thinking something didnt seem right. The girl I dealt with didnt wear a name tag or badge any of the 3 times I dealt with her so I don't know her name but it is the girl that wears the covid mask and messy bun. I asked her if she could look at my receipt to see what happened. She immediately got defensive and said I can see what YOU ORDERED. I said I am not giving you a hard time I am just trying to understand what was covered and if it could've been done a different way. She kept confusing me by saying if I try to change anything I will owe the eye dr an extra $55. That was not making sense to me since the eye exam is billed separately and sent out as soon as they do that so I don't know how they would rebill me to charge more for that. I asked to speak with him to confirm this. She reluctantly went to the back where he was. She comes back and says "you do realize he is separate from walmart vision right" I said just ask him to come speak to me. Maybe he can explain all of this to me. He refused to come out. There were no other patients there. I actually saw him playing around on the register before this girl was getting so confrontational with me. I asked if I could just return the contacts when I receive them in the mail and apply my insurance to the glasses. She said just don't open the contacts. You can return them. I should've had her clarify if this would help at all with the glasses. The next day my glasses came in. I go there again and have no choice but to deal with this girl AGAIN to pickup my glasses. The glasses they gave me do not look like the ones I ordered. They are completely black. No ombre grey on them. At this point I knew this girl would just argue with me so I just took the glasses and left. The contacts arrived in the mail that following Wednesday. I went back the very next day only to find I have to deal with this same girl AGAIN. I return the contacts which I paid $185 for and she gives me back $120. I questioned the amount and she says that's what I paid. I thought the $65 would go toward the glasses. I said so if I wouldve ONLY bought glasses my insurance wouldn't have covered ANYTHING. She said yes. Now that is wrong because my insurance covers $100 towards them. At this point she's getting me so agitated and I have my kids with me so I said then give me back the contacts. I just won't come back here ever again. Every time I dealt with this girl she was very condescending and rude. And the eye dr is nice until you walk away and then he's just not gonna deal with you anymore. If they would just EXPLAIN things I wouldn't have made these wasted trips. Even my kids noticed her rude tone. I ended up paying $355 out of pocket when it should've been around $100 and I could've gotten the contacts anywhere but there. I don't even want to go back there if something happens to these glasses under warranty. I wish I could've just cancelled the whole order and went somewhere else. It is not worth all of this frustration. Save your time and money and stay away from these big box stores. And walmart please train your associates to know how to handle insurance and treat people like human beings.

Would give 0 stars if I could based entirely on Mandy who "works" at the desk. All the glasses to try on are filthy and clearly haven't been cleaned in weeks/months, the store is full of dust. Pull open a drawer of glasses and the dust bunnies fly out. Meanwhile Mandy sits at the desk doing nothing. When giving her the glasses we wish to purchase she incorrectly tells us we have no insurance coverage. When showing her verification that we do in fact have insurance coverage she gets very defensive and offended that we are questioning her, rudely calling me lady, like I'm a jerk for wanting to use my insurance coverage to pay for glasses. We are a family of 6, each of whom have $320 x 2 to spend on 2 pairs of glasses each year. That's a lot of money, but apparently they don't care about providing adequate customer service to allow customers to use their insurance benefits at their vision center. As we told her, we will gladly spend our insurance benefits at an online vision center, as it is a much easier and customer-friendly experience.

The doctors are very kind and thorough, the staff (not all just the majority of those I've encountered) don't want to be bothered. They treat you like an inconvenience, are short in their responses and rude. I've been a customer for years. I came to order contacts and schedule an exam as I usually do. All my contacts were gone (hence why I was ordering more) and when this has happened before the doctor has always been able to give me one spare trial pair to tide me over until my ordered contacts come in. I asked if I could have one pair the staff immediately said "No he doesn't do that anymore". They didn't even bother to ask him (which he was there that day) and they told me he hasn't done in that 10 months. Well, I haven't been there apparently since this new change to know about this but they were extremely unprofessional and rude. I'll take my chances with 1800 contacts or somewhere else after this.

Always short wait for appointment and appointment is usually goes fast. Prices are decent and great styles on glasses. All staff are very friendly.

Scammed me out of money years ago and I caught that and got a portion back when I told them what they did. Went back last week for my daughter's exam for glasses and she qualifies for 2 pairs of glasses and anything over 20 dollars I am supposed to pay the difference. Well my daughter got a 20 dollar pair and the 2nd pair he wouldn't let us get and I pay the difference and he said the insurance changed. I bought the glasses for the second pair 1/2 off and paid 58 dollars so I called my daughter's insurance to ask about the change and they said there isn't a change in her vision benefits. The guy lied. I was scammed again. They aren't very friendly there.

The doctor is very caring. Front staff we're kind and helpful. The frames are a bit pricey compared to online sites but when I tried to save /order cheaper frames with transition coating, the coating was horrible from the online comapany. I sent them back for a new coating and it was bad again. It looks like they don't cover the whole lens? However, Wal-Mart Vision center has never given me issues with their transition lenses and I like the scratch insurance I can buy as well. Overall, I'm happy with Wal-Mart Vision center, in West Mifflin, PA.

The reason I'm giving 2 stars is not for the eye doctor (he was amazing) but some of his front desk staff are not. They seem so bothered when you ask questions. Don't know how to explain anything. The lady who checked me out needs fired for trying to scam people out of their money. She added extras on without my consent and at the end says I owe $86, luckily I caught it and told her my insurance covers more than that and I only want what my insurance covers, she got mad then fixed it and I ended up only paying $8. MAKE SURE YOU ASK TO SEE WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR. She also didn't even bother to mention anything about the warranty. I only knew because I overheard someone else talking about it. I don't know her name but she is the skinny shorter one, who wears glasses. Other than that the place was clean I got my glasses, they are ok and that's that. Hire better staff, walmart.
