Tennessee Eye Care

On October 23, 3025 I met with Dr Thomas to get a complete eye exam and to be fitted for contact lenses. The next day I called and left a message that I'd like to come back in for a recheck to make sure I had the contacts in the correct eye because I couldn't see well. I also explained that I was leaving the country on Tuesday November 4 and would like to be seen before then. I left messages every day and left a total of five messages before I finally got a call back on Monday November 3. I was told that I could drive to Lenoir City to see a doctor and decided to do that. When I called the office to make the appointment, I was informed that I would have to see Dr Thomas and she was not available to be seen until the afternoon of November 4. Very disappointed in the service I received.

I called to schedule an appointment at the Lenoir City location, but the doctor didn't have any availability for three or four months. They offered me an appointment at the Knoxville location a month later, which I accepted. The person on the phone confirmed they accepted my insurance, Blue Cross Blue Shield. When I arrived for my appointment after driving over 30 minutes, I was not greeted politely at the front desk. The receptionist asked if I had vision insurance, to which I replied yes and handed her my card. However, she continued asking if I had another insurance without informing me they didn't accept Blue Cross Blue Shield at that moment. She tried calling the number on my card but couldn't get information and ultimately said they didn't have it on file. I called my insurance company from the waiting room and confirmed that I indeed had Blue Cross Blue Shield vision coverage. I informed the front desk, and then they told me they only accepted Blue Cross Blue Shield vision insurance for individuals under 21 years old. After 30 minutes of this confusion, I decided to leave. The front desk staff should have been more polite and helpful--I shouldn't have had to call my insurance company while waiting. When I asked why they didn't inform me about the insurance acceptance issue when I booked the appointment, the receptionist couldn't provide an answer. She mentioned it was a call center that handled bookings and might not have known about vision insurance specifics. This was the most unprofessional experience I've ever had at a doctor's office.

Let me begin with I really like both Dr. Mende in Midtown and Dr. Thomas in Knoxville. Even after the bad reviews of their office, I continued to come. Today, however, may be my last visit. I was supposed to be seen for just a recheck after using eye drops for one month. My appointment was at 9:00 am. At 10, I was called back for the preliminaries and asked to wait in another waiting room. Now, 45 minutes later, I am still waiting. I don't think this is the doctor's issue, but an office staff scheduling problem. Any plans I had for afterwards this morning are cancelled.

Phone line was constantly down. Had to go back for a new trial contact, and then back a third time for an adjustment in both eyes. Kayleigh at the front desk was barely responsive to my questions without help. I feel like a Karen writing this, but I've never had such bad customer experience.

Excellent customer service, quick appointment times and the most thorough eye exam my husband has ever received! The Dr was able to really dial in his perscription and did multiple checks for the best fitting contacts. I've never seen someone so excited after an eye exam as he was! Highly recommended.

Not sure how this place has so many good reviews. I was referred here by my optometrist for a potential major issue, and It was a terrible experience. The waiting room was so crowded people were standing in front of the doors. Once I got called back after about 45 minutes, It was still another 2 hours before I was seen by a doctor. I had to have my toddler with me and obviously that was miserable as he didn't understand why we were there for so long. While waiting we watched a couple patients also waiting decide it wasn't worth it, and leave. Once I finally saw the doctor, he basically quickly checked my eyes and said he saw no issues, come back in 6 months and he will look again. Luckily, I got a second opinion at a different practice, and the other doctor diagnosed me immediately upon looking at my eyes. I'm very glad I didn't trust this Dr's (Casey something?) opinion.

Just got finished with my exam and picking out glasses. My doctor was Heidi Herring. I am a first time patient here and they treated me like they've known me forever. Very knowledgeable staff at every stage of the exam to even picking out my glasses. Lots of options as far as sizing, frames, and colors. And even options for colored transitions lenses (I chose sapphire). They let you try on as many glasses as you like as long as you'd like. And pricing is not bad either. After insurance my frames were $4, and to add transitions it was $75. So for my exam, and a pair of glasses with a 2 year warranty, around $80. Very nice place to go.

I've been going to Tennessee Eye Care for years and I love it. Dr. Hunt and all the staff are always courteous, kind, and proficient. For the first time I had what I thought was an eye emergency and the on-call doctor waited for me late on a Friday evening. I recommend Tennessee Eye Care without hesitation!
