My wife and I have been using Dr Ference for several years because he is very precise and thorough with his examinations. Late afternoon of 20 June, I experienced spots and a large floater in my right eye, we immediately contacted Dr Ference, who had me come to his office. He looked at my eyes and determined there was a retinal tear. Dr Ference contacted Retina Center of Texas and made the appointment for me to meet the on call physician after hours for laser surgery. Thanks to Dr Ference help, my eyes are in better shape.
First time ever seeing Dr Stephen Ference and I was very impressed by not just him but his staff as well. I honestly didn't think to look up their location within the mall prior to leaving home and had to call once IN the mall (after several failed minutes of searching) to get directions. The gal at the front desk was really nice and Dr. Ference was VERY thorough on his exam. MORE so than anyone has ever been!
Dr Stephen Ference gets 5 stars, however his staff gets 0. He is a great doctor and very knowledgable. His staff needs a course in customer service and needs to be retrained or fired due to their ineptness.
They were given all my insurance information a week in advance, it wasnt until AFTER my visit they tell me they don't take my insurance and I have to pay the full fee!! Well, they wasted 3 hours of my time and an hour of your time Dr Ference. And there is NO way I'm paying full price for my visit....blame your staff for that.
Dr. Stephen Ference is great. I've been to doctors that run you through like cattle, spending as little time with you as possible. Dr. Ference spends as much time as it takes to do it right. After going to Dr. Ference, I found out my last eye doctor's computer (not the Dr, who was barely there) got my prescription wrong. It had over corrected my eyes. I'm completely satisfied with the Dr. and his staff.
I have significant experience with eye doctors and eye care. I was born a preemie and have had severe vision problems from birth. I've always worn glasses since 1st grade, and contacts for 15 years. I walk into things without glasses or contacts. In addition I have no depth perception due to a "lazy" eye. In addition, for the last two - three years I've suffered from weekly migraines (sometimes 2 - 3 times a week) - the nausea, block all light oh-my-god I'm gonna die from the pain migraines. I've been seeing a chiropractor and a massage therapist for the last two years, which helped but never fully resolved the issue. Never once did I suspect the migraines could have anything to do with my eyes - I thought I was able to see just fine. I've had three eye doctors in three years and it seems my prescription for contacts just kept increasing. Today I saw Dr. Steve, who examined my eyes more thoroughly than I have ever experienced in over 25 years of eye exams. He really took the time (2 hrs!) to examine my eyes and make sure I got the best possible prescription. Most eye doctors rely on fancy gadgets, computers and whiz through an exam. Not Dr. Steve! Because of this dedication to my care, he realized early on something wasn't right. Because I'm a contact lens wearer, I know my contact prescription like the back of my hand. For almost 3 years I've been at -8.75 in my left eye and -5.75 in my right. After his testing, we were able to determine that for the last three years my contacts have been over-powered! As a result, my eyes were having problems focusing properly at a distance or close up. Since I work at home as a Marketing Director and spend 8 - 14 hours a day staring at a computer screen, it apparently was putting quite a strain on my eyes. With a simple demonstration Dr. Steve was able to prove that my prior contacts were over powered by 1.75! The difference was dramatic and amazing. While it hasn't even been 24 hrs, I have no doubt this will greatly reduce if not completely eliminate my migraines. My husband and our whole family will absolutely be going to Dr. Ference from now on! I have never had such a great eye doctor! For the first time in since I got contacts, I'm happy to invest in eye glasses thanks to Dr. Steve's excellent care and expertise. We had zero problem with the staff - could be that they've changed staff since then.
I have had strong glasses or contacts since i was in around 2nd grade. I moved to DFW area in 1992 and found Dr. Stephen and Dr. Susan to take over my eye care. In 1998, my son was born and at age 2.5 diagnosed with Asbergers and as the years have progressed, high anxiety. So, when it comes to doctor visits, it has always been a struggle. Dr Susan has taken the time to be patient and thorough with my son to give him the best care since day one! I wanted him to try contacts, and Dr Susan was extremely patient with my son, however, he couldn't tolerate the sensory overload of something in his eye, so she recommended we stay with glasses.
I have seen both doctors, but primarily in the last 10 years or so, have seen Dr Stephen. When I turned 40, he diagnosed me with "Nuclear Sclerotic" cataracts that affects younger people, usually runs in families. Sure enough, My 8 uncles and 1 aunt all were affected by it around age 40. He referred me to a cataract specialist. I had the cataract exam done by a surgeon, then the surgery. I have since returned for my regular eye exams back with Dr Ference. I will never go anywhere else. I have sent several people to this practice and all have had a great experience. These doctors are thorough, patient, and helpful to answer any and all questions. I will continue to be a patient here as well as my family. Very happy with continued excellent and consistent quality service for over 20 years of care!
Dr. Susan Ferrence was my eye doctor for many years. She is very professional and exceptionally thorough. She is meticulous in every respect. I regret that I am no longer able to see her for my eye care, since I have moved hundreds of miles away.
I would highly recommend Dr. Ferrence to anyone.
My experience is that the office personnel were always pleasant and efficient. Not once in some twenty years as their patient did I ever have a problem of any kind with the office nor the doctors nor their work product.
I've officially sat in the waiting room an hour past my appointment time while they have seen the 2 patients scheduled after me. I will never step foot in this eye place again.
