Dr. Muirhead performed cataract surgery on my right eyeThursday. On my way home I noticed immediate improvement in my vision. I have no discomfort either. I'm already spreading the news that he is an excellent ophthalmologist. His entire staff was also very knowledgeable and supportive. Thank you Dr. Muirhead and Heaton Eye Clinic staff. Dr Muirhead is patient and takes time to answer all your questions. In addition he is highly skilled. He has treated me for a number of years. I have trust in him.

I took my 92.5 year old mother, who has dementia, in for an eye exam. Her appointment was at 3:25, we arrived at 3:21. After check-in we waited close to 40 minutes before she was called back. The nurse who performed her initial assessment was absolutely fantastic and really good with Mom. After pictures were taken of her eyes we were then seated in an exam room to wait for Dr. Muirhead. We sat in that room for about thirty minutes. At 5:10 I inquired with the desk to ask how much longer it would be until we saw the doctor. He showed up minutes after my inquiry. Honestly, I think Mom had been forgotten. This appointment took entirely too long considering how little time Mom spent with the nurse and doctor. Heaton Eye Associates needs to take a serious look at their scheduling windows so patients don't have to wait so long.

The Dr. Was very thorough. I ask him a lot of questions and he answer them for me. So if you need a eye doctor. Heaton Eye and Joel Thomas Muirhead. Are the ones to choose.

Dr Muirhead spent extra time and resources in order to help me get my dry eye under control after having Cataract surgery. I went back numerous days. He was compassionate and very helpful. I would recommend him highly.

When I learned I had cataracts and I received information from Dr. Muirhead about my surgical options, I started to get hopeful. I had advanced to wearing increasingly powerful readers. The replacement lens option I chose for the surgery, the light adjustable lenses, held the potential of liberating me from wearing glasses. The process for implanting this type of lens is a bit more involved, but as one who now has 20/20 vision without correction of glasses, I can tell you the extra office visits and treatments as well as the extra cost have totally been worth it to me. Dr. Muirhead and his staff are top-notch professionals. They are personable, too, and throughout the process of tweaking the light adjustable lenses, they were encouraging and patient. Toward the end, I had to decide if I wanted to try one more light adjustment or do the final lock-in. I took an extra week to decide, and I was not hurried. The whole team, including Dr. Lebus, the optometrist, worked together to give me my desired outcome. Everyone's eyes are different, but Dr. Muirhead will give every patient his or her best options for treatment.
