Dr. Mayans is an excellent doctor! Very professional and attentive. The same goes for the rest of the staff. Both the techs and the receptionist were very helpful and nice. This was my first time going with Dr. Mayans and I have to say that I am very pleased with his service. He explained everything very well, I was able to ask any questions without hesitation and could tell he actually cares about his patients. My mom also went with Dr. Mayans and I will say that it is very helpful to know that he is bilingual. It was definitely an advantage when my mom had any questions or concerns. Overall, I had a great experience and would trust Dr. Mayans in guiding me to the best choice possible. Thank you, Dr. Mayans!

Dr Mayan performed cataract surgery on my left eye February 2019. He was very thorough with me as to the procedure to be performed, pre op and post op procedures along with recovery time. Follow-up visits were minimal, (2) and when all was said and done my distance prescription was reduced to -0.25 and I only wear my glasses for reading. If I still lived in the area and needed to see an opthalmologist I would definitely return to Dr Mayan.

If I could give Jose Mayan zero star I would!!! He is the most impatient rude and unprofessional person I've ever dealt with! He was of no help and after 2 visits and bad attitude I still don't have a solution to my eye problem... he would not follow through with the procedure he scheduled me for and said I had to go to the hospital because I was being uncooperative when he was the one doing all the yelling for absolutely no reason. I definitely would not recommend him! He needs to retire already!

I absolutely do not recommend you to come here with children! On Monday September 18, 2023, we were sent from emergency room SignatureCare Odessa. My daughter 5yo had a piece of metal in her pupil (so the doctor said). First in the morning we called Retina eye at 8 am. They promised to call us back, no one called back and ok we go ourselves. No one warned me at the reception that this doctor DOES NOT WORK with children. We paid $250. Because then in his room, the doctor was already very unhappy and said several times that he did not know why my little daughter was sent to him, since he works with adults! (should have said this before I paid the money). In general, this doctor really does not know how to work with children, he immediately instilled fear in our heads and my daughter and I cried. He took a very long needle and tried to pull this scale out of her eye, telling her to not move, but sorry, even an adult would have fainted from the needle in his eye. After few times trying, he said that it was only possible in the hospital and he started booking time in the operating room with anesthesia!! Seriously hospital? Of course we left there in shock. And we took her to Mexico in a chihuahua. After 7 hours we were at the ophthalmologist and in a few minutes without a needle and surgery room the doctor took a piece out of my daughter's eye, not with a sharp needle, but with cotton stick! Retina eye promised to refund 250$ for an unfulfilled service, but in the end they refused to return the money. I'm from Europe. And I have seen many hospitals and the service is different everywhere, but my experience in Odessa is definitely terrible. I wish you to improve your service, the work of doctors,qualification and eventually upgrade the equipment (even in Europe and Mexico, the equipment is more modern).

I was referred to Dr Mayan by the MCM ER. Since my situation needed treatment in a timely manner, I did not research my other options. Thus began a series of 4 operations and 1 procedure, and numerous appointments with Dr Mayans. I would NOT recommend him to anyone. First of all, he is very rude, and does not like any questions. He is older, and from a culture that does not question anyone in authority. I know this because I have lived in Mexico for over 8 years. At his office, he stuck a needle in my eye, without anesthesia, because he was late to meet his wife. I wanted to go to the hospital and have the benefit of anesthesia, but this would have interfered with Dy Mayans lunch plans. His exact words were, 'we do this now, or you go blind.' Moving on, his billing department is charging me twice for the same operation. And, to top it all off, after the 4 surgeries and 1 procedure, I am blind in the eye that was injured. However, this could have been the same regardless of which surgeon I was treated by. Oh, and he does not prescribe pain medicine. If you have severe pain, he tells you to go to the ER. If you don't plan on asking any questions, and if insurance or Medicaid is paying your bills, you will probably like Dr Mayans; otherwise, there is a guy in Midland.

The gals at the receptionist office were amazing! So sweet and welcoming! And fast service. Glad to walk in to an office and feel good welcoming. Thank you all so much!

Went 3 times with no resolution to my watery eye problem!! He is very impatient and in a rush ! Very disappointed with him as he was of no help and very unprofessional! I wouldn't recommend him to anyone!!

The staff is uncoordinated and don't communicate well!! Always one thing AFTER another!
