Just to preface, the FEMALE staff are amazing, Portia and Mary Jo, they were so sweet and caring and if it weren't for them, I would be giving 1 (the closest to zero). Dr. Safar should NOT be seeing children or probably females in general. I scheduled my 5 year old for an appointment at 3:30 and after the technician told us to wait (mind you, there were no other patients in the office) he took a good 10-15 minutes to come into the room and have her dilated. Dilation takes about 20 minutes, by the time we got back it was 4:55 an they close at 5. He came in and tried to look at her, and then was very irritated saying she wasn't dilated enough and hopefully she didn't "cry it all out" (those drops do burn, they have to put in numbing before they even put them in, on top of the fact that she is a CHILD who has never had this done before.). We waited another 10 minutes for him to come in, she is autistic and tried her very best to focus and do as she was told, saying the light was very bright (hello, it's a flashlight pasting through a magnifying glass and straight to the back of a dilated eye) and instead of being comforting he gaslit her, telling her the light wasn't even bright, she just needed to do as she was told and she was only hurting herself dragging out the exam. Again, she is FIVE YEARS OLD. He kept tapping on her face like she was an animal. I was absolutely disgusted. When we finally finished the receptionist told me I needed to ask him for the note that I needed, so I went in the room and asked for it and the only response was a heavy sigh. I don't care that it was 20 minutes past closing, I was there for 2 hours, the least he could do was show some common human decency. Needless to say I will not be returning or recommending him to anyone I know-I know there are not many people in the Rockwall area but he is NOT worth the proximity. Do right by your kids and take the hint from his name- stay saFAR away.
I was very hesitant to write this review because I almost never leave reviews--good or bad--but this office really left me upset. The more I thought about it afterward, the more unprofessional and inappropriate the whole experience felt.
When I first walked in, there was no one at the front desk. A woman, who I believe was the assistant, came out and apologized ( I think they were short staffed but I didn't mind that at all, until I was trying to call on someone after finishing my forms maybe 5-6 times until I went and opened the door for the bell to ring and get their attention). She was extremely sweet, and honestly, she's the only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one.
After that, I waited for at least an hour before a man (the doctor) came out and sat at the front desk. Then a delivery lady came in, and the two of them talked for about 10-15 minutes straight, completely ignoring me. Afterward, he noticed the Wi-Fi was down and called the provider--which I completely understand--but I didn't understand why he couldn't have helped me earlier instead of chatting that whole time.
Eventually, the assistant brought me back, and she was genuinely kind. She told me I needed to get my eyes dilated, so I waited about 20 minutes, which was totally fine. After that, I went back to the room and waited another 10-15 minutes even though there were no other patients there. I had been there since around 11:00 AM, and by the time I asked about the doctor, it was almost 1:30 PM.
When I mentioned I had class soon, she went to get the doctor--and he came in right away, which made me wonder why he couldn't have come in earlier. During the exam, he made a couple of comments that just didn't feel appropriate, and he kept looking in a way that made me very uncomfortable. The entire time, I was smiling and laughing just to not make a scene because I didn't want to overreact or be rude, but it felt insanely inappropriate to me, especially since the whole office was empty and I had been waiting for hours.
At the time, I brushed it off because I was tired, hungry, and just wanted to go home--but the more I thought about it afterward, the more uncomfortable and disappointed I felt.
I even thought maybe I was being unreasonable until I went through the reviews and saw that other people mentioned the exact same issues. If this has already been brought up, why hasn't it been fixed? They even send a feedback sheet after your visit--so why ask for feedback if you're not going to use it to improve?
The assistant was truly kind and professional, but overall, this visit left me very uneasy and disappointed
I agree with other reviewers. The doctor is rude and dismissive. He made multiple inappropriate remarks and really should not be treating female patients . I was there for an excessively long time. I think after he dilated my eyes they forgot about me. I had to go find them after 45 minutes. I have never had to wait that long for dilation. That's on top of the initial hour in the waiting room .
Had my 1st visit last week and I was impressed with the overall experience. The receptionist was very helpful with verifying my insurance prior to my appointment and getting me an appointment the following day. The entire staff was friendly and Dr. Safar took care of my eye!
Doctor & His Assistant were absolutely Amazing. They were professional and personal with care.
I would recommend this office to anyone that needs the Best eye doctor care :)
I was referred to Primary Eye Care by my insurance provider. The office staff was professional, courteous, and
accommodating. Especially the receptionist, who was able to fit me in for a last-minute appointment after l explained I had been seen in the ER the night before for severe eye pain and light sensitivity. I was diagnosed with a corneal abrasion and needed follow-up care.
Unfortunately, my experience with the doctor was extremely disappointing. His demeanor was unprofessional and dismissive from the start. During the exam, he questioned whether I was actually injured, despite my ER diagnosis and obvious discomfort. When l explained I was in significant pain and unable to work, he responded, "Well, it's a good thing it's the weekend - you'll be alright." I informed him that I work weekends, to which he replied, "Can't help you there." Even more concerning was his comment that I should "do myself a favor" and avoid going to the ER in the future. I told him it had been 10 p.m. when I sought emergency care, and he simply said, "You would"ve had to come here in the morning anyway." His lack of empathy and dismissive attitude left me questioning his professionalism - and whether he truly belongs in this field.
Patients come to eye care professionals seeking help, not to be met with judgment or disregard. Sadly, based on this experience, will not be returning.
.Dr. Safar and his staff were pleasant, appointment was on time, and the examination professional and complete. Mary Jo was efficient in assisting me in the purchase of new lens. I would highly recommend Prime Eye Care.
Everything went great. Friendly staff and the eye doctor does a fantastic job. Thanks for a great experience.
