UIW Bowden Eye Care & Health Institute

I suppose I should have just paid attention to the reviews before coming here. I called ahead of time letting them know that I am low vision and I need to see a little vision person because I'm transferring from Lyons little vision the person on the phone back then said yes I can see a little vision doctor and made me the appointment as a UIW alum I'm expecting to see the optometrist furlough Vision instead I get here and they tell me I cannot see a low vision of optometrist and I have to see a regular person which is useless for people like me. I get a prescription and they let me know that as soon as I come up with the money I can take my glasses frames to get that prescription filled there as an alumni. They tell me I have to pay more money to see a low vision person when I could have just saw the low vision person the first time. Finally I'm able to bring my glasses in so I can get the prescription it's not even a few months later I send the glasses off I'm told I will get a call when they're ready and it will take 6 to 7 business days. No one ever calls me today I call asking if my prescriptions are in I get told yes they are in so I come in the same day. The very rude lady with extreme eye makeup on doesn't even bother to read my name even though it's common spelling and Common Sense. She takes me inside doesn't even ask anyone else there or actually look for my glasses she just tells me my glasses have not been delivered I let her know I just called and was told my glasses were delivered now she has a look on her face like oh my God I got to do work now. The lady next to her kindly tells her her glasses are over there. She gets up she gives them to me the prescription isn't even correct probably because I should have saw a low vision person in the first place when I asked. I tell her I cannot see out of this prescription it's not correct she tells me if I want the correct prescription I'm going to have to pay again to go see the optometrist. And then makes up some crazy things about oh it's been a couple months so my prescription might have changed man there is no reason why I should be able to read your advertisement sign with my old prescription and not my new prescription that sounds like you just don't want to do your job and the fact that you're telling me I now have to pay to get the correct one when it should have been correct from the start is insane. UIW alum do not bother wasting your money here

Honestly the only thing I liked about this place was the Customer Service from the ladies that work the front desk. My son who is Mentally Ill had his eye exam on October 8th & we're still waiting on his glasses almost a month later!!! They said they would have them on the 29th because he uses special lenses, so I called on the 29th to see if I could pick them up. The lady told me they got them in on the 23rd but they made the lenses wrong so they had to send them back. I feel like we should have got a call letting us know what happened, especially if his glasses weren't going to be ready on the 29th but nope. They told me on the 29th that they'll be ready by today, so I call today to see if I can pick them up & nope. They tell me his type of lense takes a couple weeks, we're 4 days away from a month now. She tells me she put a rush order on them & that they should be ready by Friday. The lady last week told me the same thing! I told her my son can't see & won't even go to his Psych appointment because he can't see. I used this place for the first time for my son because it's right by our house but I will never be using them again. It's never taken anyone more than a week to get his glasses done. It'll be over a month this Friday, we'll see if he even gets them then!!!!! If you need special lenses, be ready for excuses & over a month wait! Absolutely ridiculous.

Front desk staff was very friendly, they were quick to call us to the back for our appointment, and the biggest reason for the 5 stars is Mrs. Brazil. She is amazing, our 7 year old son is autistic and was having a hard morning and she completely turned his day around. She was so friendly, understanding and kept him engaged. She also made the entire experience for him less scary and she was just amazing all around. Mrs. Brazil you are amazing and we will be returning for you!

Shout out to DR. REEMA KAHIRI. I absolutely hate anything touching or affecting my eyes to the point that I fidget like a child and get in a bad mood. Dr. Kahiri's professionalism and gregarious personality made an otherwise stressful appointment FUN if you can believe that. Dr. Kahiri demonstrated her confidence when she told me that she signs her emails with "BEST" because for her it is short for "I AM THE BEST". I also learned that she is a world class assassin on HALO, having been declared three time European and two time North American Champion. On top of that she is UIW's all time Quidditch scoring leader. STAY GOLD PONY BOY.

Great exam and very thorough! Absolutely would recommend this facility to anyone.

I've been going to this clinic to get my eyes checked for the past 3 years. The appointments are longer than a regular clinic, but the students are very thorough and walk you through everything. As a student, I think it's great to go to teaching clinics so we can help train the next generation. I recently got fitted for contacts for the first time, the student doc was soooo sweet and patient with me awkwardly trying to take on/off my contacts. While at first it seemed over kill the amt of times you have to take them on/off, I really appreciate it because it made me feel confident I would be okay at home on my own. I had 2 extra f/u appointments to confirm the right brand/fitting that did not cost extra. I buy my own glasses online so I can't speak to the retail department. Will continue to go here while I live in the area. Happily recommend.

The staff at the entrance was very nice. My overall experience with the students was very good. The optical department was a totally different experience. I was told it would take 2 to 3 weeks to get my glasses. I don't of ANY OTHER EYE INSTITUTE THAT SHOULD TAKE THAT LONG. I GIVE THEIR OPTICAL DEPARTMENT 0. I will never use that department AGAIN.

Eye care students were great. thumbs up. Don't go to optical for glasses though. lousy service. took granddaughter in for glasses beginning of one month and promised a rush job. my fault for waiting a whole month to check on status but school is starting and she needed them. when i called to find out about them i was told we tried to call you (3 weeks ago) and couldn't reach you and you had no voice mail. wrong. i checked my call log no call from them. checked my voice mail nothing wrong with it. and why didn't you try calling back again? because you never called in the first place!
