The team at Newcastle were fantastic throughout the process, from my initial consultation to my post-surgery checkups.
My initial consultation was very comprehensive and Karen was wonderfully friendly getting me through all the various tests. After this, there is an element of pressure selling coming from the head office, however, as they started getting in contact with me earlier and more regularly than what was expected from the Newcastle team. However, my mind was already made and I booked the earliest available surgery date in a few weeks time. There is a 0% interest finance agreement available to pay back over 10 months, which was straightforward to set up.
Two weeks later, I had a consultation call with my surgeon, Muhammad, who explained the surgery and outcomes quite clearly, answering my questions without withholding the risks and other considerations. The day of my surgery soon came and I was only there for 80 minutes, with 15 minutes of that in the surgery room. The team very much put me at ease and the surgery went very smoothly without issue. The initial couple of hours back home were a bit uncomfortable, as expected, but got much better by the evening. By the next day, I could tell my sight was now better and sharper than what it was with my contact lenses and glasses, and could read the smallest line (6/4) at my first checkup.
I've since had my one-month checkup and recovery is all on track. The convenience of not having to deal with contact lenses and glasses is fantastic. The only lingering issue for now is seeing a bit more glare and starbursts from direct lighting at night (LEDs and car headlights mainly), but this hasn't stopped me from night driving (anti-glare glasses help to a degree) and over time I'm not noticing it as much.
I was seen by Laura today, who was very professional but equally importantly aware of my concerns and very empathetic in her approach.
I was taken through all the appropriate tests and scans, they seem to have all the best up to date facilities, and in a nut shell left feeling I'd been well looked after, and received the best care. Shout out to the lady who did my scans as she was super professional too, can't recommend this practice highly enough.
Unfortunately my corrective surgery did not work for me. I was not aware but apparently in some cases the laser over corrects your vision and this is what has happened to me. I was driving for 2 months not realising I was not fit to be driving without glasses. My eyes have been extremely dry and sore on a morning. I now have 3 prescriptions after going back to my normal optician one for screen, one for reading and another for distance. So I've just purchased 3 sets of glasses as I was unable to continue day to day while my so called vision was apparently still settling down. I'm back next week and there may be an option of more surgery to try to correct my vision but with the soreness and dryness of my eyes I'm not confident this is now a viable option. I've gone from needing distance glasses to now wearing between 2 and 3 different glasses every day. Super disappointing
I have had issues with one eye needing corrective surgery. I knew the risk but I'm not impressed with the aftercare. I rang to say I was suffering with headaches and vision. They eventually got me booked in for appt to assess and agreed corrective surgery was required but I'll have to come back and see the surgeon. I ended up in a&e and was a migraine due to vision issues. Called back to let them know and ask when appt with surgeon will be. A month later I have an appt . Goodness knows how long for corrective surgery . Time taken out of work for appts, hospital and the days I have migraines and do optical express care?
Great experience with optical express Newcastle. Friendly, polite and staff I felt safe with. I had lens replacements in July and a YAG procedure in Nov. All worth it for life with out glasses or lenses.
Correction surgery was a success, and my vision is really good. Only struggle with the glare at night time a night. I am writing this review so anyone thinking about surgery knows the possible outcomes. I am a MMA fighter and was told it would only be 10 weeks before I'm back to normal. My surgery is coming up a year after completion and my eyes are still very sensitive to getting punched in training and prevented me having a fight this year. So surgery yes was a success but for anyone in a similar position to myself I would like you to know the dangers.
One of the best decisions I have ever made and money well spent.I had lens replacement surgery in May 2025 and within 24 hours I was fit to drive. No more glasses for reading, and distance . No prescriptions. You cannot put a price on your eyesight. My experience was amazing from consultation to surgery and aftercare. It has changed my life. Thank you Optical Express
Hi everyone
Had 2 new mono lenses into eyes . Totally painless . Was fed up swapping and changing glasses to read and for distance . Since having the new lenses . My reading strength glasses dropped from 3.5 to 1.5 so having these lenses for distance had also enhanced my eyes so I can read most things without glasses . And can ride my bike without glasses digging into my head when I put my helmet on, Aftercare is very good . You don't get the full effect straight away , takes a few months for lenses to settle . Use the drops allocate don't worry about blury lights and flashes when you first have the op that will pass after a week or so . Got my vision back , worth every penny . Thanks Optical Express
Regards
