The Big Optician

The Big Optician has been my go to place for everything eyes for many years. The staff are so customer focussed and super friendly you won't want to leave. Exams are detailed and using the latest technology will determine how you proceed and if it's glasses they have a huge range to suit your face , eye and hair colour but most importantly budget! They're the best independent opticians I believe in the North East.

My wife and I highly recommend the Big Optician. The staff are amazing, they are friendly, welcoming and very knowledgeable about the products. You are guaranteed a thorough eye test, using state-of-the-art equipment/technology and Gillian, who in our opinion is the number one Optometrist, uses her expertise to ensure that you have a thorough eye test while explaining everything to you. We wouldn't go anywhere else, it is a great experience from start to finish.

After using quite a few other opticians, we started using the Big Optician more than 10 years ago. We have found the service excellent and the fact that there have been few, if any staff changes means we always return to familiar faces who are well versed with our history. The care they afford us to ensure we get the right glasses for work, leisure and sport has been excellent and my wife and I would not hesitate to recommend them.

What a fantastic experience from start to finish. I was looking for an independent optician after feeling'sold to' by others. I did a lot of research and travelled to The Big Optician and wasn't let down. Everyone is so friendly, relaxed and making the eye test, purchasing and picking the correct style to suit so easy and a really enjoyable experience. Thank you.

My husband & I have been going to The Big Opticians for 18 years & the service we receive from all the staff is first class. My Tom Ford frames are always admired . They always have time for a friendly chat & make you feel at home & no matter how many time you go back to have things adjusted it's never a problem to them. See you in December.

This optician always treats me as if I am a 'special' customer - I don't think I am so presume this is how they treat all their clients. An example of this: I asked for help with my Mum's ancient broken glasses frame; she had dementia, and was unable to cooperate with a new test or even visit in person as we lived in Carlisle. The Big Optician had never met her and had no prescription for her or any way of getting the old one. They not only took out the old lenses and managed to put them into similar-looking, but not identically sized, frames but then didn't charge me for the frames themselves. They posted them on to Carlisle and Mum never noticed they were any different. Exceptionally kind and generous service.

Absolutely outstanding service! From the moment I walked through the doors of the Big Optician, I felt incredibly welcomed & well looked after. The staff are friendly, efficient, & knowledgeable & made the check in process seamless. I was shown to a beautiful waiting room & offered a hot drink while I waited. The practice itself is so cool with the most up to date designer frames to suit all budgets and tastes. My appointment with Gillian was a very positive experience & she took the time to explain the issues I have with my eyes and lenses. I came away with a fabulous pair of Tom Ford frames which I love. The entire process from start to finish was seamless and the level of professionalism and care demonstrated by all staff was outstanding. I have no hesitation in recommending the Big Optician. 5 stars all the way!!

Service is always excellent - optician professional , at ease and communicates well. Front of house go out of their way for the little extras - coffee, great help with frame selection, posting items to home, rearranging appointments- all with a smile.
