Smith Bowman Ophthalmology

I had 2 surgeries done by Dr. Bowman. He did an amazing job and has been following up with me ever since. I felt quite comfortable with him and I've also met with Dr. Smith who is fantastic! The office staff is very kind and helpful too..

My child and I had separate appointments at separate times with Dr. Smith and she was great! However, they make it really difficult to pay them. There is no online option, they sent a bill in the mail that said I could only pay by check (what century are we in?) and every time I try to call to see if I can pay over the phone, I get disconnected. I think they sent me to collections at this point, which is honestly probably a lot easier to pay.

Dr. Smith was amazing. I had an ongoing issue with my eye that I first visited the Moran Eye Center for -- they did not take my concerns seriously, gave false conclusions and treatment that didn't help. Dr. Smith was my saving grace as she was incredibly helpful, kind and ended up solving the problems I was having after correctly diagnosing and treating.

Sheri is reason enough to love this office. She's a Rockstar! So smart, easy to work with, patient and kind. She's great with kids and adults. I took my husband to this office and he said "I've had a lot of "fast food" type eye exams, this office is like fine dining. They take the time, and make you feel valued". Needless to say, everyone there is awesome. We won't be going anywhere else as long as their doors are open. I'm partial to Dr. Smith, and he is a Dr. Bowman fan. Either way, we're always in good hands.

Not a good option for students with the U of U heath insurance When I scheduled my appointment I confirmed that they accepted my insurance (EMI Health). After the appointment was complete they clarified that they only accept EMI Health medical insurance, not vison, so I ended up paying an unexpected $188. The actual appointment went well, but the insurance issue left a pretty bad impression for me, and I've made sure to let other graduate students know to steer clear.

I honestly felt like this practice is no good. I went in for a contact exam, all I had asked for and scheduled for. 1. I was on time to my appointment and wasn't seen until 30 minutes past my appointment time. I was seen by a technician first, and then waited 10 more minutes to even be seen by Bowman. 2. They added services on to my appointment, that did not have to do with a contact exam, they went ahead and dilate my eyes (not part of the contact exam) , without telling me or asking, or even letting me know that this service would cost extra, would you still like it?? 3. They lead me out of the appointment without giving me a room or mirror to put my contacts back in my eyes so I can hardly see, I go to pay for the appointment and they tell me that the contact exam isn't covered by insurance (even though I had called before hand for a contact exam and checked to make sure that they take my insurance.. couldn't have told me that from the start??) and then that I need to pay an additional amount for the copay. If I'm already paying out of pocket for the contact exam, why am I paying a copay? For the eye check up was the response. What eye check up? The lady said well they dilated your eyes right? I said yes, she then said yes so you will have to pay the copay. Honestly it's unethical to add services that the patient never asked for and then charge them for it like the patient should know better. You are the doctor. You are the one providing the service, there is a level of trust placed in you and that was taken advantage of. I normally don't ever complain about businesses or services but this just rubbed me so wrong, so I am saying something. I don't think doctors should run their businesses this way, it's dishonest.

Everyone in this office is genuine, caring, and thorough. Your eyes are in great hands here!
