Shoutout to Alex! I have been getting my glasses adjusted for months because I thought it was natural for them to loosen. He was the only person to notice a part of my glasses fell off and the reason I kept needing to get adjusted every couple months! He helped me find a replacement and hopefully avoid constantly getting my glasses adjusted.
Wish I had read the reviews before coming here. I was told over the phone that they accepted my insurance. I was told the same thing once I got there for my appointment. It wasn't until AFTER the appointment that they requested full out of pocket payment ($160 exam only x2). Turns out they neglected to tell me that I was out of network. The lady at the front desk was quite unpleasant to deal with too. She just seemed like she didn't want to be there and had a snappy attitude. I was going to pay for both my husband and my exams but I decided to just pay for my own since they didn't use my insurance and she started asking me what happened and why I suddenly couldn't/didn't want to pay. Not really appropriate. Due to her intentionally neglecting to tell me that I was out of network, I had to file claims with my insurance and luckily got fully reimbursed. I shouldn't have had to jump through the hoops that I did if they had just been transparent from the beginning. It's part of their job to communicate things about insurance and they shouldn't have to be reminded to do that. Costco needs to end the partnership with this team before they continue to damage Costco's reputation
I felt rushed in and out while the doctor was training in a new employee. The prescription he found was technically acceptable, but did not ask if I liked what I saw before trucking on forward.
I ended up paying a different optometrist at Vis on 8&8 where they took their time and got me a much more fitting prescription with a lot more attention. Additionally, While asking about contacts, he put eye drops in my eyes and only after the fact said it was a numbing agent (the optometrist I went to after this visit was appalled at this for something as simple as contacts), I spent the next few hours with uncomfortably itchy eyes.
The saving grace from a one star review was the lady at the front desk. She was super nice and really helpful trying to teach me to put my contacts in. Front desk lady, you are amazing. Optometrist, I hope you get better at people skills. Costco, raise your standards for optometrist contracts.
Went in to make an appointment today after having a lovely morning, and the red head working the front desk was just entirely unkind. When she asked if I had been to their location I stated that I hadn't, but I had been to the Murray location. When I asked if it would be easier for me to go to the other location, she made a face, looked me up and down and said, "Well, if you want" in a condescending tone. I was so taken aback by her behavior that I left before the gentleman that was working with her could even hand me paperwork to fill out. I'm not saying they to be a ray of sunshine, but treating people in such a dismissive and juvenile manner is just unacceptable. Won't be going back.
Did not have a pleasant experience. I have been wearing glasses/contacts for almost my entire life. We went through the typical process. He went on to tell me I had pigmentation in my eye, he started googling pigment in the eye and told me it was an indication of certain cancers. He printed it out and gave it to me with no additional directions or guidance. I left feeling scared and confused. I decided to get a second opinion which went much better. The new Dr wasn't sure what he was referring to as he did not see any pigment or reason for concern. I found it interesting that when I told him the story of what happened he didn't seem surprised I had that experience with Dr Mckell, as he had heard of similar complaints. On top of it, my prescription was incorrect and the new contacts he prescribed were terrible. Very frustrated and disappointed.
I love Costco and its employees. I find they are friendly and will do whatever they can to help you. That is not the case at the optical shop. Two years in a row, I have had an absolutely horrible experience. They are a nightmare. If I wasn't forced to go there by my insurance, I would love to shop elsewhere. I ended up at Walmart after my latest experience.
I have an antique set of eyeglasses that I wear as part of a uniform for work. They wouldn't even try to fill my prescription, claiming "the lab" would just deny them. I got the same answer last year, and pleaded with them to try. "The lab" filled them and they even fixed a bad screw. I don't know why they feel "the lab" is such an obstacle.
Overall the employees are curt and don't want to work with me trying to find a solution for my job. Very disappointed. I guess if you fit into "their mold" you are probably golden. I'm just out.
Had an appointment for a contact lens exam and they cancelled on me with 4 hours notice! Interestingly, if I cancelled on them with less than 12 hours notice, I'd be charged $25. They were unwilling to fit me in on another day that I had available and offered Dec 24. Who in their right mind wants to go to Costco on Christmas Eve!
I don't usually leave reviews... but felt like I should here. I got an eye exam from Dr. McKell about a year ago. All I'll say is that I got some weird vibes from him and felt kind of uncomfortable during the exam. (Lots of bad jokes, one of which was about my appearance and relationship status...) Everyone else was nice enough.
Fast forward, I went to order more contacts and found that he only made my prescription valid for 1 year, rather than 2. So I went to the optical Center in Bountiful this time, and turns out he over prescribed me on one eye, and the other doctor also found I was far sighted in my other eye. So Dr. McKell's prescription was straining both of my eyes. Will definitely be going to the Bountiful Optical Center from now on.
