Thank you to the staff & especially Dr. Jacob Clark during my first ever visit. The office was clean and everyone was so respectful during my appointment. The classical music was very relaxing and Dr. Clark was so kind, knowledgeable and efficient during my appointment. I would recommend him to everyone. Again thank you very much and see you in 2028!
I arrived on time for my appointment, but because my insurance had recently changed and billing staff were unavailable, I was told my only options were to pay the full visit cost out of pocket or a $60 fee just to reschedule. I paid the $60 to obtain my medical records and was then told another $60 would be required to schedule a new appointment.
Policies are understandable, but how situations are handled is what reflects respect for patients. Being physically present, trying to resolve the issue in good faith, and still being met with rigid administrative responses -- without escalation or effort to help -- felt dismissive.
What was even more concerning was reading other patient reviews afterward and seeing that office responses to concerns often come across as defensive rather than solution-oriented. That pattern speaks louder than any single fee.
Healthcare should make patients feel cared for, not processed. Unfortunately, this experience did not reflect that, and I will be seeking care elsewhere. I encourage others to carefully consider this when choosing where to receive care.
I started going to this practice when it first opened and the service and wait time has gotten consistently terrible. After my third visit having to sit and wait over 30 minutes just to be seen, I commented this to the doctor and was rudely told - "you can go somewhere else"
No accountability for their mismanagement of time. In addition their staff never gets back to you about your lenses or contacts and their overall customer service can be very up and down as well.
I will gladly be going somewhere else.
The office staff was so friendly and thoroughly addressed my coverage concerns before I agreed to do an and in-office unexpected procedure. They also were very kind to squeeze me in due to the nature of my eye. Dr. Clark was direct and informative addressing the issue I came in with. I was anxious about the procedure but his thorough explanation of what to expect made it less scary. I also noticed this provider speaks Spanish, a great plus for patients! Although it would have been great to get them in writing or as a printed handout, the after-care instructions were clearly communicated. Overall, the practice seems great.
Unfortunately, after being a patient of Dr. Clark for over 20 years, I've found that his front desk staff, particularly Monica, along with the office manager Michelle, have a very poor attitude and provide terrible customer service. They seem to be unwilling to deal with insurance claims, and instead push patients to pay out-of-pocket for everything. While Dr. Clark is a kind person, he tends to rush through appointments and doesn't give patients much attention during visits. It's disappointing to see how much the quality of service has declined especially reading others reviews and replies from Dr. Clark's staff and no improvement from their end.
All the positive reviews are well earned. From the front office reception through the entire thorough exam this was the best eye exam I have ever had. The doctor was friendly and answered all my questions, I never felt rushed. Its a nice quiet office, it never felt like I was on an assembly line. All within walking distance is a bonus.
Just called their office to make an appointment. Very unpleasant apparently office manager who gave me a name of Cindy. Definitely detered dealing with her and sure from reading other reviews they are losing a lot of business for the Dr by turning patients off. Hopefully Dr will reconsider finding more professional customer service employees for his front desk. Be warned!
Dr. Clark is the absolute best! He's always attentive and explains everything thoroughly. He really listens to what you say to him. Even if you don't mean to eavesdrop, you can hear the care and reassurance he gives to all his patients. I've been a patient for years and have never had an issue with billing, scheduling, or being seen for a slight emergency issue. His staff has always been helpful and kind. Thank you Dr. Clark!

About Alexandria Ophthalmology Associates - Dr. Jacob A. Clark, MD
I got hooked on ophthalmology the day I wandered into an eye surgical suite as a medical student in my native Puerto Rico. I realized that being an eye surgeon, and restoring the gift of sight, is a true privilege. After finishing residency in San Juan, I moved to Hartford, Connecticut, where I completed my fellowship in diseases and surgery of the anterior eye, including glaucoma and cataracts. Since starting this practice in 1993, I have performed thousands of cataract surgeries at Alexandria Hospital. I continuously bring the latest developments in my field as a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and through regular attendance at educational meetings.
